An interviewer with an artistic soul. A change for RR no doubt.

No that is not true. Drugs ruined a great band. Besides they were together for 16 years, more than most bands. They didn't take an oat to be together for eternity. I love all The Band members, but reading both Robbie's book and Barney Hoskyns biograhpy of The Band "The great divide", it is much more complicated than you might think. Richard, Rick and Levon were doing heroin, and things were getting out of hand, car crashes, not showing up for rehearsal. Robbie felt they would be tempting fate, by staying together. He wanted to bring it to an end, and have a record of it, he contacted Martin Scorsese to film the last concert. He thought they could still make music, but not tour anymore. However, no one was interested in that. The 4 other members did continue to perform without Robbie, and still used the name The Band. By the way Rick Danko is my favorite, along with Robbie, I'm not being judgemental, like I said I love all of them, but I understand why Robbie had enough, he was exhausted trying to keep them together, he had a young family, and wanted more time with them. Although Robbie did drugs as well, he never got into heroin, he was weary of addicts, his stepfather was mentally and physically abusive to Robbie, gave him a black eye once, hit Robbie's mother as well, until she decided to divorce him.
