My backyard has a 20 degree slope. My mower is a Cub Cadet XT1 ENDURO LT42E. I get a little nervous negotiating that hill, but you make this look so easy.
Just what I needed to see. My front yard is rough, steep and averages 22 to 28 degrees. I have only mowed about half of it with a garden tractor at an angle with lug tires but it will slide rapidly coming straight down. Looks like the 4WD would make all the difference. I would like to be able to mow more of it. I was considering the GR series but this vid is making me think twice. Thanks for the post.
There was a guy on forum that had a G series. The front axle would free wheel going downhill. He added brakes to the front axle to keep it from sliding down hill. Garden tractors depreciate badly. A subcompact tractor holds it's value very well. With the GR you are limited to mowing, pretty much. With the BX it is a year round machine. I have a minimum of 3 weights on the front of mine. Sometime I leave all 5 on. Be careful mowing that steep hill.
This is hill is the first video I've seen that looks like what I have to mow. Actually, you have more incline that I do, but mine isn't as smooth, I have rolling hills and bump. Been debating getting BX or GR for a few weeks now. I have a few questions. How long have you had the BX? Any issues with it? I'm worried that it only has a 2 year warranty. That's all i get on standard mower, and I've yet to have one last more than 2 years. How is cut quality?
The GR had a bad reputation. They are supposedly good now. I know a guy on a forum that had one. They have a hydrostatic front axle. When he would go down off a steep hill it would free wheel and the rear tires would slide. Essentially he had a 2wd mower going down hill. That would be enough to keep me from buying one. The BX is a more robust machine in every way. You will also gain a 3 point hitch. You can use the BX year round. The BX will holds it value better. The BX is a tractor with a mower, so the cut quality will not be as good a garden tractor. The cut quality is still acceptable, and way better than a box store mower. This will answer a couple of questions you have. ua-cam.com/video/16x7eiqNpn0/v-deo.html
The engine and hydro both have more than enough power. After I get over the steep part at the bottom I can put the hydro pedal to the floor in low range and it will cruise up. Now if the hill is damp it can be a bit tuff to get up.
I really appreciated the video. I have much less of a hill and my kubota Santa brought it to me. This will be my first grass cutting season coming up.. The weights you put on the front how much total weight up front do you have.
I have little bit to mow. The worst part is all the trimming. I can trim for 2 hours if I do everything but the main stuff I do with every mowing takes about an hour. Yes, that is a Snapper shirt. I got it for free with my spreader. I mostly wear it when my so people can see me down along the road. The weights are copies of Kubota's weights.

It would be sketchy with out 4wd.

Does it struggle at all to drive up the hill or is there plenty of power? Looks like it doesn't have a problem

@@TractorTech tuff as the wheels start to spin when it is a little wet?
Yes
Have you measured the slope on that hill?
I've been meaning to, but I have not. I'll check it out tomorrow and report back.
+Matthew Schrenk It is right on 30* at the bottom then it "levels off to 23-25* depending on where you are.
94BULLITT most of my hill that we are mowing with a SCUT is 20° with a few spots reaching 30°. Anything over 20° makes me uncomfortable.
