  • After the deprivations and horrors of the Second World War, Victory in Europe was declared on 8 May 1945. The news ignited spontaneous celebrations in communities across the nation and a national holiday was declared. People from all walks of life came together to mark the moment - in cities, towns, villages and streets all over Britain.
Every anniversary of VE Day is important but reaching the seventy fifth anniversary was due to spark a very special calendar of events and activities. Dartford Council had planned a special bandstand concert, a commemorative gift for children and even arranged for a full-sized Spitfire to make an appearance in Central Park.
However, In line with the latest expert medical advice and guidance on mass gatherings, the Council has scaled back VE Day 75 events this year, but that’s not stopping us from paying tribute to the Second World War generation, and we are encouraging everyone in Dartford to do this from the safety of their own homes.
DBC has launched VE Day 75 with this short video showing how everyone in Dartford can take part.
