I perceive David Černý as a kind of conscience of our society.
If you look at babies, they have a barcode instead of a face. David wants you to think about the combination: child - bar code - this civilization. In the surroundings of Prague, you can find other of his works, people peeing on our republic, France Kafka's spinning head and the like. David's works are full of symbolism, he follows his artistic predecessors.
Our history is full of such works of art. Look at historical buildings, it was quite common in the Middle Ages and to a lesser extent it happened under communism. People here use symbols to communicate and also to release frustration.
