  • Hello Lovelies! This week I'm going to explore a range of size inclusive patterns (plus size or above a 55" hip measurement according to the size chart) which could be used to sew a whimsigothic inspired capsule wardrobe.
    Whimsigoth is a fashion aesthetic which takes bits from Goth, 90's wicca and boho and the modern "core" aesthetics.
    I will have links to my other pattern roundup videos at the end of this one so stick around for those.

    I never thought of using them until now.
    Thank you for the inspiration

    A a former teen/young adult plus size goth, and now a super sized plus woman this chanel makes me so happy because I couldn't find size inclusive goth clothes that fit and flattered my shape. Now that I own a sewing machine, and work in the fashion district (access to fabric and sewing machine supply stores), this has inspired me to start making clothes for my goth self and my cottage core child. I might even be able to make her a pouffy pretty pink dress with puffy sleeves like she wants. Thank you for the size inclusive videos/patterns.

    Love your channel Amy. It's so refreshing to see a fellow Aussie on the 'Tube and I love your inclusivity. Thanks for educating me too. I had never heard of Whimsy Goth; you made me feel old when you mentioned the '90s for flared pants - my mind went straight to the '70s.🤣

      Thanks for watching! I think 70s if it's flared jeans but flared stretch pants are post 80s for me. Though, the platforms of the 70s definitely made the flares more practical. I remember my hems always got ruined when I was a teenager

      Hell yeah you can!!!! But I agree, until you can see people like yourself in a certain style, it's hard to imagine yourself being part of it. Exactly why representation matters so much! Thanks for watching ❤️❤️❤️

    I'd also recommend a few Muna & Broad patterns: the Whitlam Skirt (knit column skirt), the Nullarbor Cami and Dress (which can be cut straight or bias), and the Alistra Dress (knit column dress with either a scoop or turtle neck), all up to 71.5"/182 cm hip. Style Arc also has some good patterns, most of their items go up to a 61"/154 cm hip, and they have extended sizes up to a 70.125"/178 cm hip.

      I love Muna and Broad! I have a few style arc patterns but haven't made any yet, though I do hear that their instructions can be a little minimal. Thanks for the great suggestions!

    Thanks for this video! I’ve been looking for sources similar to the ones you’ve pointed out. When I was living in Toronto back in the 1990s, there was a boutique clothing store named “Pam Chorley’s Fashion Crimes.” The bulk of the garments would have qualified as the modern equivalent of WhimsiGoth and it’s always coloured my own view of goth fashion- lots of texture, lace, velvet in cuts inspired from all over history. Very early historybounding, I guess. Wish I’d taken more photos of the storefront back then! 😃

    My combo would be the Ellie and Mac dress in a crushed velvet in midnight blue as an underdress. Then lawrence dress in black lace, maybe different patterns on each tier with longer flutter sleeves.
    Finishing off with the gertie "belt".
    😊

    Interesting... goth with a twist... lol... all your patterns were very helpful n quite a few I have... hmmmm... have you seen the patterns by George&Ginger ??? They have many silhouettes than could be included by just your choice of fabrics also they have a group that they have labeled goth... have you seen Greenstyle's ultra crop top ??? It is for stretch fabric n could be done in mesh or crushed velvet n has to die for bishop sleeves n could also be hemmed n left loose... 1 view comes over the bust n a couple of others very cropped... checked the Miami wrap top by Ellie&Mac it has the sleeve ecstatic too... thank you for a new look into a very cool style...

    I love the style of dress, and I tend to dress this way naturally. I think the way that you can make it more masculine would be to do a Howls moving castle style. If you made it more wizard like rather than 90s witch focused I feel like it could be really good for gender nonconforming or masculine people.

    • @amyofmelbourne
      @amyofmelbourne  11 місяців тому

      That's a really great suggestion, thank you! Admittedly there is so much overlap between this and Forrest witch and fairy Goth etc that I think I stayed pretty conservative with my choices, I didn't want any aesthetic purists to come at me 😅

    Amy!!! I am so obsessed with your channel! I pretty much just binge watched everything lol! I am also a plus size content creator! It is very hard to find plus size sewing videos! I’ve been on the look out for plus size patterns (the struggle is real) thanks so much for your content and please keep making these videos! This was very helpful and is so so needed on UA-cam! you know what would be cool? --make the sleeves a bit larger and longer, then sew in about 3 to 4 lines of that string elastic first just under the deltoid, just under the upper arm...then above the elbow and then above the wrist but leave enough length at the wrist for flutter sleeves, would make the arms look like those renaissance paintings with the white under blouses puffing out of the velvet over jacket...am I making any kind of sense? talk about romance, I wish I could just draw it on here so you could get the whole picture, but it would be pretty I think.....but although I have a dress cut out of a sheet I have yet gathered the courage to sew, I draw way better....hadn't sewn since high school, was very hard, the bullying about how big my pieces were compared to the skinny girls, turned me right off of sewing...want to start again, but my body had fit issues that I don't think I can make a pattern fit well enough, the dress I am wanting to sew now is one of those old mexico dresses, loose with embroidery on the front...

    • @amyofmelbourne
      @amyofmelbourne  11 місяців тому +1

      YES! I know exactly what you mean! It's called shirring elastic and it would be brilliant!
      DM me on Instagram if you want to have a chat about your fit issues and the clothes your wanting to make. I would love to try and help you out. You would be amazed at what you can achieve once you know how to fit a pattern properly.
