For all of you pursuing photojournalism, be prepared to struggle, fight, be rejected, etc. There is an ever-shrinking job base and an ever-expanding competition base. The number of publications using their own photographers is dwindling. Sports Illustrated and the Chicago Sun-Times are examples of this. The number of people that actually read anything not online, is shrinking. Competition for jobs will only become more intense. If you expect to make a living free-lancing to publications... well it can be done. But be prepared for photojournalism to be your life, your whole life. When your friends who went into accounting, business administration, computer something, etc. are spending their off-time golfing, going to plays, spending time with their kids and more, you won't be. You won't have off-time. You will be somewhere photographing something for not enough money and not enough appreciation.
Santi, your work is heartbreaking and valuable. You capture moments that would otherwise go unseen and untold. Families who lost their children and children who lost their families can know that the world sees their suffering pain and will act to help them. It’s the least we could do for them, no one should ever ever have to through what these families and individuals went through and continue to go through today.
As someone who's introverted and wanted to be a photo journalist in the future, what he said in 0:44- 0:51 was really relatable. I couldn't agree more. Is this a foreshadowing hahaha
i'm in highschool and still haven't figured out what course or career I want to pursue. I'm thinking about taking Photojournalism since I was a photojournalist at our journalism club in school and I liked taking pictures of stuff..I also am interested to learn about what's happening in the world since I don't really know that much about my surroundings. However, I keep on having this thought of the new generation, in which almost everyone takes pictures with their phones. This is the dilemma I've been having.....sigh
I understand what you're trying to say. I just graduated high school and I applied to college for physical therapy but now I'm starting to have second thoughts. Maybe I don't want to do this. I always found photography fascinating, especially photojournalism, bcuz I'm interested in other parts of the world and what's happening over there. And the thing is that I already made my schedule for physical therapy 😶. But if it doesn't work out then I might change it to photojournalism bcuz I believe that's what I want to do. Do what makes u happy bcuz I'm about to start doing something to make my parents happy but hopefully I'm gonna change it.
Don't worry, papers and other publications will never publish an amateurs phone image, it's the photographer that gets the good images that gets to publish
Great talk. I'm studying photojournalism and enjoy hopping on youtube & finding videos like this to reinforce my confidence to pursue this passion and break through barriers to share the stories of the world. What I've learned so far is that photography has a much deeper impact and influence on the world in all her aspects, and increasingly so.
Really worthwhile watch. I will be starting an HND Photography course, which has an photojournalism unit in a couple of weeks, and this video has made me look forward to it even more. Well argued piece about a major contemporary issue. Thank you.
Hello could I please know what an hnd photography course is, I have taken alot of photographs in india, nepal, kyrgystan, in regards with photojournalism and I would like to learn and grow in this field
@@sam681991able Hi. An HND photography is a scottish qualification. It is based on two levels - an HNC and the HND. The HNC photography provides a basic knowledge of photography and it allows you to go on to an HND photography where you learn enhanced skills needed for photography. As I said, it is part of the SQA which is a scottish body. Other countries will have their own version. You will cover photojournalism and documentary photography amongst other types of photography. Photoshop learning is developed as well. Hope this helps. Wullie
The fact he was incredibly nervous but delivered his talk so eloquently with so much quiet passion, shows not only how courageous he is but also how important it was for him and to us, for this to be heard. You reach people through truth, knowledge and empathy.
Don't apologise fro you English, ever. You were excellent. Thank you.
This was worth the watch, sad it doesn't have more views.
“Excuse my english” - *then proceeds to deliver a more articulate speech than 75% native speakers
Exellent video.

The world see the world through your lenses buddy. 💕
I'm a campus photojournalist, I went here to learn and to seek for advice to improve my skills even more.
Photojournalism ❤❤❤ play an important role to society.
It's interesting to realize that the circulation of newspapers that eliminate their photos department drops considerably. Photos are important.
Amazing job!! This is a beautiful message and I really hope to contribute to raising awareness with photojournalism in the future
you answered my question. thank you so much.

This was a great speech and so worth watching! Thank you for sharing & Palacios's (your) English is amazing!
