  • The still photograph is often considered the strongest communication element in the world and certainly documentary images have and do prompt social change. Poverty, hunger, child labor, war, and many other concerns are often addressed by photojournalists, sometimes at great personal risk. Documentary photographer Billy Weeks will explore the moment where photographer and subject intersect with a single point of view. This common ground between the photographer and subject gives the image the power to provoke change, a common ground that can only be reached by the history embedded in both.
Billy Weeks started with The Chattanooga Times in 1984 as a staff photographer, rising to Director of Photography/Graphics in 1999. In 2010, Weeks became an independent documentary photographer. As a photojournalist, Weeks has covered assignments that range from the World Series to small villages in Central America and Asia. His photographs of poverty in Honduras won an Award of Excellence for editorial photography in the Communication Arts Photography Annual. He has won the Gordon Parks International Photography award twice and was awarded the Freedom of Information Award from the Associated Press. His photographs on baseball in the Dominican Republic and Central America were featured CNN and Photography District News.

I am in a camera club with people who have lots of talent. If you asked each person why they take pictures you would get a different answer from each person. Never would I or have I heard a person say they are taking pictures of their life. GREAT Talk!

great video, as a professional photographer... capturing the world in your view of essence is as unique as a fingerprint only difference is your uniqueness constantly evolves through time. One piece of advice from an entrepreneur side of the business being a photographer... NEVER devalue yourself or your work with free publication, with today thanks to the internet there are many platforms to show case your art as a brand as you as a photographer, you are a brand!. Rent doesn't come free, camera equipment never comes free, doctors appointments never come free, your art and creation should never come free at the expense of a publicist benefiting from your work. if a newspaper or magazine (being print or online) wants your work in their publication don't sell it for FREE. Photography is much of a business as it is creating your art.

Great Talk ... One correction, Ansel Adams' quote was actually “There are two people in every photograph: the photographer and the viewer”
