- Between 1941 and 1944, the Front in the Arctic was known to consist of series of raids, small battles and skirmishes. One such raid occurred in the Murmansk front on 2 February 1944, when elements of the 1st battalion, 143rd Gebirgsjäger Regiment raided a Soviet position on Hill 858. The raid can serve as a practical example of how the fighting on the Arctic Front took place during the Second World War. Find out more in this video.

Absolutely brutal conditions. Even just being in a trench in those conditions will ruin your health pretty quickly.
This raid reminds me of the last campaign in the "Band of Brothers" book. Small raids to capture prisoners with little point to any of them.
Great video Ace. Any chance you can provide Google Map coordinates of this action?

Krieg unter schwierigsten Bedingungen, hervorragend dargestellt. Höchst informativ! Vielen Dank
Well done, highlighting a seldom-discussed front and the type of frustratingly frozen, stalemated, grinding attritional warfare employed there. Another good primary source for the mostly-forgotten battles of the Continuation War & later, the Lapland War, Operation Nordwind & the Vosges Mountains, etc is "Black Edelweiss" the war memoir of a gebirgsjäger named Voss in the 6th SS Div "Nord". I believe it's even in the public domain & available to download free... Looking forward to the next one, Ace 👍🏻
I can’t think of a more difficult environment for military operations.
Try Burma.
Tropical jungle, frozen tundra or arrid desert, none sound pleasant in the slightest.
Super work as usual, Ace. Thank you.
It seems like a stalemate suited both sides, especially given the weather.
Is this a prelude to a more detailed presentation?
If so, I can hardly wait!!
Wow I have never heard of this raid before.
Love the obscure battles in your videos
Thank you. Always interesting.
Never heard of this before.
Your Content I find easy to Understand and with Many Family who Served in Theatres from Europe to The Pacific with a Uncle who was Underage and didn't want to miss out Ran Away aboard a Neutral Ship from Sweden from South Australia got off in America's West hitch hiked to Canada and joined up in a Tank Regiment fairly Easy as Part of Cannon Fodder for The Empire .Copped a Flash from a German Anti Tank Team .Greatest Generation they Say I cannot Argue , Cheers from South Oz 🇦🇺👍
Great story about a forgotten front
Hey Ace, you should go up there and snap some pics of the actual battlefield. Sounds like a wonderful vacation spot. Love your videos, keep them coming!
Finally a video depicting the battles of the ss in karealia I’ve been hoping to come across one for many years now. It is often forgotten in history. Thank you for this upload
The month they had to plan the raid was longer than the planning for some large offensives. Arnswald, kustrin, spring awakening, etc.
Extraordinary content. But the audio track was not good this time. Your voice was sometimes very soft and than quite loud.
No new posts in half a year, hope all is well.
Ace, turn on ur superchats.
Please keep videos coming out you’re very underrated!
