I landed one this summer probably 30 inches, destroyed the split ring on the lure, they fight fiercely almost as hard as a 13lb king salmon

How big do Bowfin realistically get? My Largest catch was 32" I grew up hearing all of these stories about 4 footers, but don't recall ever spotting one over 36"

I grew up fishing for them every weekend when I was a kid at my grandparents cottage in mid Michigan. I get out and go out to catch a few when I'm visiting from FL, haven't caught a large specimen since I was a kid. Fish over 28" were VERY rare.
