Meandmygolf I shot 79 last week and I owe it to your videos, especially taking practice swings on the range with my feet together and then my left foot back.. Great way to remind me to rotate my core!

Hey Peirs and Andy, I just wanted to say Congratulations on landing a spot on The Golf Channel in the States. That's a great accomplishment to be recognized internationally for your craft. Well done!
Just tried the closing leading wrist tip at the range. Odd at first but wow getting 250yds plus and straight now. Work still to be done but what a difference. Going to try it on the course next week. Massive thank you lads.

Hey guys, enjoy your lessons. Lots of good lessons for majority. With this lesson , my question is I find most every great player the hand path moves straight down for the initial few inches on ds not out at all. Also, most people will if they try to hit the wall on ds behind them will pull handle to rather line to do so, can you help me understand my perception vs what your telling is here?? One more is a theory I have messed with and see what you think. By pushing handle left hand on top of grip like getting them to hinge, right hand opposite. This forces the shaft to shallow at top try it sees what you think. Dale
No lie, this fixed my slice completely. Not just with my driver, but my irons as well. I'm getting through the ball so much more now that I'm actually hooking it at times. Just need more practice to get things dialed. Thanks a ton guys! 👍
Excellent video guys. A classic three keys to flattening the downswing- bowing of lead wrist, separation of lower body from torso (separation) and lead elbow under the shaft all during the tranisitioon. Great stuff.Keep it up.. Appreciate the free videos!
Had a lesson yesterday - was coming over the top and creating a lot of right side spin (1200). Basically coached to do this and started coming back on the plane and from inside....work in progress but hopefully will start to reap benefits..
Wow! This is key to making it finally work for me! I focus on keeping the lead wrist straight then the slight bow on the downswing and I’ve suddenly been having slight drawls happening!
My first time back on the driving range actually gave me a big break-through. I've been trying to shallow my arc for years now, because it tends to be a bit steep (in both back and downswing). So last practice I tweaked just one little thing. At address, I turned the clubhead clockwise to around two o'clock (opening the face), and kept that feeling in the backswing. For me this greatly flattens my path both in back- and downswing. Removing my slice and greatly improving my contact and consistency. Curious if you guys understand what I mean, and could maybe even give it a whirl. :-)
@@shanedeel2 well since this post I've learned that it all boiled down to my left arm turn. So it's opening the face, but turning my left arm 45degrees clockwise in the backswing. There's a lot of tutorials on this subject that can explain this way better than I can. ☺️
OK... I took this to the course today and it works. I just about put my right elbow on my side in the downswing and the path of the ball straightened out. The time or two it didnt work was when I did the over the top thing. Can't wait til I use it against the Tuesday after work crew
Hi Guys great video. Just a little feedback on the podcast not sure if anyone else experiences this but i find the sound quite quiet, the pre recorded intro is fine but then the actual interview is always a bit quieter and struggle to hear when in my car even with full volume.
Great video, was talking to my coach the other day about this and how to increase my launch by shallowing. Off to range tonight to try this out! Thanks guys!
Awesome as always boys, this is what I needed to turn my fade into a straight or even draw (on toey hits) on my drives. Been frustrated with what I thought was my good swing.
Hi Andy and Piers, I love all your helpful videos. If you can provide a drill or tip on how to brace on your left side on the downswing to avoid the sway. Many thanks from Sydney (lockdown 😔)
84 is my best round of the year so far but recently had a horrible blowup 9 holes. I'm curious about whether this swing is only good for woods or can it be used for an iron shot out of the fairway/rough? I realize it's hard to talk about everything when you're focused on the mechanics of this requested swing but I didn't hear anything about using this swing in other full swing scenarios.
Hi Jonathan. It is for everything really if you are prone to get too steep a shaft angle inn the swing. We don't want the club way inside, we just want to avoid getting too steep.
Do you think that the "shallowing the club" thought may screw up the iron shots of mid to high handicappers? Looking at the video, I can't visualise the shallowing of an iron.
@@UpToScratchGolf agreed. I was going to ask the same thing. Seems we need three swings. Driver, Irons and wedges.... is this correct? Somewhat correct?
Just seeing this video. Great content as usual.i tend not to shallow out the club on the down swing. I had an instructor tell me that not all great ball strikers shallow out the club and encouraged me not to do it. I use to bow at the top of the backswing. Should I be shallowing the club on the downswing? I tend to miss right
Rather few coaches teach Moe Norman swing, which is one-planer without significant shallowing presented in the down swing. It is simple back and forth motion, which I think would be most repeatable for high handicappers or beginners. Not as efficient though as a throwing motion, but accurate even sith the longer shafted clubs. Have you studied the swing of Bryson DeChambeau? I think he is one of the few, if not the only current tour pro doing it.
I like the elbow tuck method the best. If you bow your left wrist then it'll also affect the right wrist...which is already at it's max flex. So how's this going to work?
Thanks lads. I did these drills in lockdown, videoing my swing each day and sending them to my coach. First game back and I was hitting hook shots all day long. Question: I can make a really good practice swing shallowing the club. Why can't I do the same with a ball in front of? Would love some mental game tips lads. Thank you - great video and I will use these drills. Just sent this video to my coach.
I tried two things these guys teach, and I am now just striping my irons; such a good feel to hit effortless high draws. It’s flattening the swing and have the bottom of the arc just in front of the ball (for irons). My three changes were; getting my grip a bit more neutral particularly on the right hand, really keeping my left wrist ‘bowed’, and working my right elbow ‘tight together’ (vs tucking it in to body). It then naturally dropped my arc flatter and made it so much smoother; felt weird as the club head really lays off, but once you get it...so nice. Hitting so much cleaner and with more feel as my right hand is more engaged and not chunking with an over the top move. It also works with a flat left wrist, flat swing, active wrists/right hand for chipping. Thanks guys; game changer for me (and I’ve been playing with my bad habits for over 50 years)!
So I've played two games since my course re-opened. My first game I shot 64 (everything that could have went wrong, went wrong) but my second game I went round in 44 - one of the holes that normally gives me grief I almost got an eagle. My main issues so far are: My woods/driver are struggling for directionally - I could be aiming for the one of the two bunkers on the left but I'll end up by the bunker on the right hand side My putting has been really inconsistent My pitching is a lot better (cheers) but should the speed that you bring back the club with be the speed that you follow through with?
I've been working on coming more from the inside and find when I hit it well I now hit a draw with my driver. But my bad shot is now a big hook off the tee. Any help? Great video ☺
Hi guys. ....I have an issue of elbow extension from surgery in my right elbow. It does not drop or allow me to push it down vertically exactly and sort of never get my forearm vertical to shallow as much. How can I compensate in my setup, downswing, or wrist to offset this physical barrier to shallowing?? Any hints??
Love the video lads, I’ve watched a lot of videos on shallowing the club now but they don’t talk much about the release of the club and the wrists on the follow through. Do the wrists flip?
I’ve noted on my swing videos that I can shallow the club easily with no golf ball present but when there is, my trail hand (right) pushes the left hand, leading to a more vertical position. I’ve been trying to correct this with little success until yesterday when I adopted a very strong left hand grip with neutral right hand. The left hand can then resist the right without me thinking about it. Works on the range, now I will take it to the course. Any thoughts?
For the bowing of the wrist, can you start doing it in the takeaway? And not just when you start the downswing..? I’m thinking DJ might do something like this..
Great video guys! From lessons, my local coach is trying to get me to shallow the club more, but I really struggle to bow my wrist. The right-elbow technique isn’t something I’d seen anywhere else, but making a big difference already 👌🏼 thanks again
Great tips. Thanks, I know that I have been coing in too steep with the driver. I especially like the information on the right elbow to help shallow the club.
Hey guys, take another look at Maria and Matt's swings. They're not shallowing the club purposely, it's happening because their right elbow is lowering down to their beltline. Most good players swing on the plane of the right elbow and forearm.
Separating my hips movement from my upper body feels impossible. Is that due to poor hip flexibility? I don't have a clue where to begin to work on that. Talking about 6:15
Don’t separate too much, or you will have no choice but to come over the top. Do more of a squat while the hands start dropping naturally then towards the end you can start really hiring hips through

I’ve had an awful hook for months so have been doing my utmost to swing more out to in. When I shallow the club I have the tendency to get stuck behind and hook 🤷♂️
Try to keep shallowing! I have the same struggle with hooks. Watch "Louis Oosthuizen's Swing Tips | Golfing World" at 3:23. He talks about a drill to keep your arms in front of your body that helped me a lot.
Aren't there two ways to shallow the club or get it on plane? Your grip and cupped or not cupped (flat left wrist) can do the same thing. DJ flips does this reverse flex torsion twist thing. Most of us normal people don't. Can't you swing on one plane with a flat wrist and get the same result?

So, is just for drivers we shallow, as I am prone to slicing a lot teeing off,or stay on plane steep for irons,as I swing better with those?
