Picked this up for Sega at a game store last year. Cool art and great audio for its time but can't imagine I'll enjoy playing this. Great video though.
Give it a try. The PC version is very playable, at least. It's not a game I'm going to go back and play full seasons of, but for a quick 20 minutes of fun, it's not bad.
I've been working on the real logos for Hardball III and 4, most of them came out real nice. They give the game a much more authentic feel. I can send the files to you if you would like, you just have to put them in the right folder.
I love the hardball series. I actually downloaded this game, along with Hardball 4 to try to use with retroarch. However, I'm lacking the players discs, and I'm not sure what else. I like how in this game, the players are there, and they're used well. I think it was because of limitations that the names weren't said, so it's practicly up to you to guess. I'm a Reds fan, and have been since I first started listening to baseball. Great stuff.
Thanks for the comment! This is still the only game in the series I've played. I need to try the other ones. I tried loading Hardball 4 on my 386, but it won't handle it. Yeah, being such an early game for voice audio, having Al say all the player names was probably too much.
I remember watching that 1990 World Series, BTW. I hated the Athletics at the time because they were always trouble for the Jays, so I was cheering for the Reds!
I grew up when Deion Sanders was a Red. He's in hardball 4 as such. Do you have retroarch? I have it. I have both Hardball 3 and 4, and a DOS core. However, I still can't figure out how to get it to properly work. As a blind gamer, that's difficult, but not impossible. I have Hardball 3 on the Genesis on my computer. I play it often. Al's in that one, but his voice sounds like his pitch and frequency was lowered slightly. It doesn't have the MLBPA lisence, though, so fictional players only, but you could use your imagination. I do it all the time. The Genesis didn't get a pA lisence 'till Hardball 3 on the SNES< and Hardball 94 and 95 on the Genesis.
@@aaronreed5612 That's interesting. I didn't know that the PA licenses were different depending on the platform. No, I haven't used Retroarch. I use DOSBOX occasionally.
Hardball (1) was my first baseball game on the PC (which was rough), and I played the hell out of Hardball II. But I just couldn't get into this game. I was playing on a 286/EGA graphics, so it didn't look as good as it does here, and there was no Al Michaels. The stats were buggy, too. The video brought back lots of memories, though. thx.
I love this Hardball series, so many memories, the difference between a slow pitch and a fast pitch seems unhittable
I agree. If it isn't a slow pitch right down the middle, it's very hard to hit.
I just decided to look this up for nostalgic reasons and see that someone is keeping it alive even in 2022. So great! LOL
Thanks. Yeah, I probably should have recorded a couple games to at least try to get a win. :)

The fun part, for me, is seeing the names of all the old MLB players I used to love from the time period.

Sure, I'd love to check them out.
@@andystandys OK, I'll get back to you in about a week, I'd like to get some more teams finished and I need to find out what folder they're stored in.

@@aaronreed5612 By the way, you now have me watching videos about blind gamers. That's something I'd never really thought about before. :)

I appreciate your comment. I still have yet to play I and II. I tried loading IV on this computer, but it won’t run properly.
