We went through the exact same process although my front mount was completely shut. After changing it out and shimming, I now only feel that nice Harley shake at the stop light. Tip: One should prevent any oil from getting to the mount when doing oil changes. Oil ruins the rubber. I also found out that OEM mounts work way better at damping vibrations than the other popular brand I have tried.
@@kirkleaman6863 Yes that's the one I tried and took off quickly as a felt a buzz in the bars. Then I put on the OEM mount and it solved the problem right away. Smims are OK but I've been told one must keep the mount under slight tension. Good luck!
My buddy just put new tires on my scooter and upgraded both motor mounts on my 2002 Dyna Willie G 3 CVO. Now it has a brand new, horrible vibration, especially around 45 or 50mph and it's even worse with a passenger. Makes your hands go numb in minutes. Kinda like you're describing, When I pull the clutch in and take the load off, the vibration is gone. I'm gonna try to shim it with the 4 washers like you did. I sure hope this phantom vibration goes away with this fix. I really appreciate you doing this video. Two fingers down, brotha.
I know it has been forever since your comment but did you end shimming the isolator and did it fix your problem? I have exactly what you are describing happening on my dyna.
the one thing i hate about my dyna is the vibration on my feet.....i am about ready to trade it off for a honda gold wing........i have had all kinds of bikes in my life time and this harley is a great bike except for the vibration.....i have changed both mounts.....in the past ....and i put 2 washers as you have said and it did help ....i am going to try 4 washers and see it helps any more.....thanks for the advice.....
My twin cam Dyna has a fair bit more vibration than the Evo did. Causes a blur in the left mirror only. Replaced the front mount but it's the same. The recommendation is to change both, it'll improve stability if nothing else. If I shim it and the left mirror isn't a blur I'd know it was better.
Mine was unbearable at 70 mph, shaking my eyeballs out. Can't believe the difference a couple of washers make. Also, there must be a million motor mounts out there that are installed wrong.
I ultimately changed the motor mounts, no shims, no more vibration, all good. I rebuilt the front forks a couple years earlier and they still feel good. There are a lot of different things that contribute to vibration and it can be really hard to find sometimes.

All good points my friend. I ended up installing an OEM mount and like yours, it has been good. No more shims.
Did you try drag specialties motor mount?

I had to shim my Dyna when I had one. It really does help! Good job.
Thanks Dave!

It was a very frustrating process trying to hunt down the source of vibration. Front wheel balance was a factor in my case also.
Does the service manual recommend shims?
Nope. Some people swear by them. In my case it was an experiment, I ended up removing them.
How about a good balance?? Wheel weights , do fall off
Absolutely! I ended up Removing my weights and using Ride On tire balancer and sealant. It made a very big improvement in the front end.
@@bluesriderDF Really? i never heard of it, thats crazy. how does it work, if you dont mind eliberate
@-mrrichbiker1552 check this out.

After two flats back to back I run it religiously. Awesome stuff. No flats in the last ~40k miles. The balancing is a mere bonus for me.

Wouldn't surprise me!
What size washers did you use?
If memory serves, they are 3/8". I ended up replacing the mount and I got some Grade 8 washers which are thicker, and used 1 on each bolt.
30,000, on stock OEM mount, time to get Kinetic mount
I wish I knew about this 😕
I know it has been a long time since this post but did the Kinetic mount get rid of the vibration? And how is it holding up now?
I put 3 upper and 3 lower…..
Yikes, that's a lotta shims!
How did it do?
Front forks need repacking.

@@bluesriderDF - So you removed the grade 8 washers you mentioned adding in the other comment?
@@ardyrides834 Yes, once I got the new mounts in the bike was like new, no need for anything else.
I have a 2010 FXDB and keep braking exhaust mounts :( should I shim my front mount ? And by how much ?
That I'm afraid I can't answer, sorry!
Your exhuast should be rubber mounted. If bolted to frame rather than drive drain
