I agree about playing on the phone as emulator. No physical buttons is a huge turn off and I just assume not to play any games without them. Great detailed video, thanks.
Honestly your not wrong about the buttons but honestly my galaxy fold has been the ultimate beast for emulating, my phones 12gb ram gets me emulating up to ps2 and xbox which is probably why I would technically prefer it this way, I have just ordered one of these though for out and about, don't sleep on phone emulation though as personally I think it's pretty beast

I don't think I mentioned it in the video, but another big complaint I have is actually getting stuff onto the SD card. You can't just plug the console into a PC, you have to use a card reader. On top of that, there are several partitions on it that your PC will tell you to format. It feels janky.

We can just cancel it when it asking to format, I think it was just one time. Another thing we can do, while the sd card connected with PC (Windows), we can disable the misc drive (misc partition) from appering in explorer as we only need or will only be using the ROMS partition. To do this, open Disk Management, go to the SD Card Disk (it will be mark as Removable) and we will see a few partition on that Disk, right click the misc partition and select Change Drive Letter, delete all the drive letter and it will not show up anymore in explorer, if we want to make it visible again, just reverse the process and add and assign a driver letter to it. Additionally we can change the ROMS partition drive too, just do the same on the ROMS partition but change the driver letter to what we want.

I'm getting one for pokemon mainly and maybe some of my childhood games like some old games you cant find anymore I'm really just wanting the nostalgia of being in that time again and I already know of some things I can do to mod it for better d pad response I'm excited to play with a new toy that allows me to go back in time a bit
I watched another review on this device and apparently you have to turn it completely off or it'll drain battery like crazy. Reason is, it doesn't actually put the device to sleep, it'll just really dim the display. This allowed your to resume play quickly at the expense of terrible battery life
This is in line with my observations.

It's really bizarre it doesn't actually go into sleep mode. I didn't realise at first but you can hear a background hiss from the speaker when you only tap the power button and it's still basically on but with the screen off.

If you get an update for the D-Pad issue, let us know please. Hope it can be fixed via software, or at least that we cna open the device and tweak something
Behaves the same on a custom firmware
Mine won’t save anymore. Was playing fire red & almost beat the game. Now it won’t save on it. So bummed out
I wish the usb-c port could be used with a dock for hdmi out,wired controllers and charging. From the little bit of research I’ve done, it won’t work for video out. Who know if you can charge and use wired controllers at the same time. Mine is currently charging up so I have no clue as of now.

is there harm in just shutting the system down when you go to sleep at night? your concern was that the power drained while in sleep. it isnt like its a cell phone that you need to be on for texts. Other than the additional 15 seconds it takes to boot back up- is there harm in shutting down.
So, what's actually happening is that "sleep" on this stock firmware isn't a real sleep. It's apparently only turning off the screen so the battery continues to drain. It's meant to eventually fully shut down on its own, but sometimes that doesn't happen and you end up dead. On the stock firmware you'd indeed be better off shutting it down.
Im stuck between rg35xx and the rg353v.
Not sure if $70 for wifi and analogs is worth it. What do you think
For me, they weren't worth it. Not many games I wanted to play that needed them.
@scaryifliteral yea I heard what you said in a video and I'm probably going to just play pokemon roms and some final fantasy. I read golden sun crashes which makes me nervous but I see rapid updates daily about the os fixing stuff
its funny to me how most reviewers have issues with the shoulder buttons rattling. As if when you're handling and/or playing the handheld there's a need to shake the handheld like a maraca lol.
In most cases, it would only shake just a tiny smidge once you move it from a case or something. Other than that, no way is it ever gonna rattle since you usually play still.
Not so much a problem, just donating felt I should point out because my other handhelds don't audibly rattle.

There's a simple mod that fixed it for me
the original game boy had glossy firing buttons and matte d-pads
I'm sure that was the inspiration. My first Gameboy was the pocket iirc.
@@scaryifliteral The pocket was the 4th edition 1996 version of the GB, I saw a 1996 gaming magazine that illustrated a mock up of a 32bit game boy predicted to be available in the future which would have been unimaganable back then.
What about rewind and fast forward. Is working?
Not on the default os. Look into GarlicOS though.

Get the steam deck 64g, upgrade it to an SSD yourself and you got a crazy good emulator. Every console works on that thing practically
Sorry man, english is not my language. What's the problem about the save? If you turn of the device will you lost your progress?
You probably won't lose any progress. When you press the power button the screen just turns off. After a while the device will fully shut down, but I tend to lose a lot of battery before that happens. It's bad enough that sometimes I pick up the device and it is completely dead. If that happens and you've not saved you could lose progress.

Very few things are that tough lol. It does feel solid though.

I got a 35xx for Christmas two days later it got a red screen. I messaged anbernic about it they said they would send a replacement screen but I didn't want to open it up and potentially damage it more so I said is their another option they sent me a label to ship it back but I'm not paying to ship a product that malfunctioned within three days so I tried to keep messaging them but now im just getting ignored and the device is completely dead the thing turns on for a second and then dies, idk what to do about it, guess I'm out 70 bucks.

I’m having a massive issue with mine on Pokémon Emerald I finished the game beating the elite four and the champion but after the credits when I want to continue playing it says “the save file has been erased due to corruption or damage” and my save is unable to go any further

Yep. You just saved me the trouble of buying one. I was emulating emerald on my 2ds, everything was going well until. ‘Save file has been erased’.
Thought about buying the ambernic as a solution but you got the same issue lol. It seems that emulation for Emerald, in general, tends to, sooner or later, have this save file problem.
The only solution I can think of is to constantly backup your save files or to get a real copy of the game (which is quite expensive), I believe this doesn’t happen with the originals?
@@juanramonsilva1067 I fixed this a while ago by replacing the roms they had in there which took like 5 minutes and now it works better than before and I got more games👍

A lot of content in your review was already obsolete the second you uploaded it. Retro Arch and GarlicOS is already been out for at least a week and it's a way better device since. It's like judging the Miyoo mini but only with it's original software, which is not really fair.
Totally disagree. It's absolutely fair to review a device the way it shipped to consumers. In fact, that's the only way to review a device. You don't review things based on what might happen, you review the product delivered.
@@scaryifliteral you’re totally right, but I just think you missed the opportunity to mentioned that there’s already a new custom OS and RetroArch available, which would have been more fair because it fixes a couples of issues you mentioned. I’m not trying to be a dick, I just want to come up with a constructive criticism.
For it’s price, I really like this little gameboy. I can’t wait for it to be on par with the Miyoo mini!

The miyoo mini is overrated AF. Too small and uncomfortable. Its not better than a 35xx with GarlicOS
