Rehabilitating a feral (wild) dog: amazing transformation after the first two weeks in foster care!

- Lindy was a stray dog in a remote community in Canada and was scheduled to be shot. At only ten months old, she had had a litter of puppies, who were all killed by a snow plough. Lindy had to be sedated just to get her into a kennel so she could be sent on a plane to the city. She spent 24 hours in the cage. I picked her up from the airport and brought her straight to the vet. She was found to be severely malnourished, infested with tapeworms, and suffering from a general infection. She was prescribed medication and then I took her home to foster her. Here are Lindy’s first two weeks in rescue.

Lindy is continuing to improve every day. She lets the kids pet her, and I’m allowed if she can’t spot a quick escape route. Her nipping has almost completely stopped, and she is learning to sit for treats. Come on Lindy, keep building trust and let’s find you a forever home!
I’m so happy to hear she’s doing well! I found your video looking for insight on how to care for my dog I just adopted. He’s also a former feral (he was a stray at least 10-12 years, poor guy). He and Lindy have very similar mannerisms. Glad to see that with time, patience, and love, these special dogs can learn to trust.
@@bebosafetycow1 wow that’s an amazing story with your dog! Lots of years on his own. How is he doing? I haven’t gotten around to posting anything in months, but Lindy did awesome. Stayed with us 7 months and got adopted by an awesome mom! We visit her every couple of months and she remembers us. She was definitely my favourite foster.. miss her tons but so happy she has a great life with an awesome family like yours sounds 😊

I'm sad to say my old guy passed away around Christmas. Someone accidentally left my front gate open and he bolted through the open gate and ran away. I found out a few days later he'd been hit by a car (witnesses said the guy who hit him didn't even stop, just drove away). I'm still struggling with his loss, but I think his desire to be free was just too strong, it was all he'd ever known. I can only hope he knew how loved he was while I had him and that he's running free and happy in doggy heaven.

We are adopting a ten week old feral pup too. Hoping for the best. They are very food interested so we are hoping that helps him adjusted to having a human pack since all his siblings are being rescued. He cried like yours today when his sister got picked up. 😔

This brought tears of joy to my eyes. And also the name Lindy. It was very common girl's name in Wales in the 1950's and I have never heard it since my school days. Thank you for everything you are doing for her. I hope she will find peace and joy and a wonderful family.
My heart breaks to see her before but knowing she have you and her new friends I'm sure she will live the best life. Some human doesn't deserve to be call human after all

Thank you god bless everyone for saving this baby and rehabilitating her , so many need help , 1 saved helps appreciate your love, time , devotion and sacrifice 🙏🏾♥️, so sorry about her babies , it’s sad 😞 but she needs to be fixed , so we can lessen the amount of pet abuse and abandonment ! Perhaps she can be an adoptive mother to some babies or a sibling , when she’s adopted! People need to get their pets fixed !, it’s cheap ! We need to educate m and if we see abuse it needs to be reported ! Slowing diet the baby making will save so many lives and also help shelter pets find a chance fir a loving forever home ♥️🙏🏾

Very sad , she is one of millions around the world because some people are selfish and greedy and are not getting there pets fixed , they are having numerous litters , knowing they will not find homes for them all !, so they dump them , sometimes the dump the mom and babies !, this is why it’s so important to help educate people to get their PETS FIXED, this would lessen pet abuse and abandonment , think about every other household in this world not including Breeders having babies ! Scary it definitely outweighs the amount of people and homes wanting a pet , not including pet stores , puppy mills and Shelters what about them looking for forever homes , pets and babies are getting euthanized every min of every day, it’s sad and should not be napping. This world needs change . Spread the word get your PETS FIXED ! It’s cheaper and it saves lives ! Thank you 💜♥️🙏🏾

Exactly as it sounds. Canadians have legalized the mass culling of feral cats and dogs by just shooting and killing them. They even give cash incentive.

What is a dog shoot. Is this a method used to euthanize? It is one of several methods as old as time, on the farm, when an animal is selected to butcher for the home. But I have not heard of cities using it. However, you might be in a different country. I am in the USA.
She is beautiful and I hope she gets pregnant again so she can give love to her new puppies because her other ones got killed and she really misses them so much.
Hi yeah , I’m sorry noooo! So sorry she lost her babies😞, it’s so sad , but this is the reason why she was Feral and her babies died , she needs to be Fixed !, as all PETS do !, we have an extreme over abundance of babies being abused and abandoned in this world !, due to selfish and greedy people , it needs to stop , her getting a forever loving home will heal her heart , or she can be an adoptive mom to orphaned babies , every other household in this world is having litters of babies over and over again , not including Breeders !, puppies are dying and are being dumped in remote places and worse because they cannot find homes, it’s not fair to them , or shelter pets that are looking for forever homes !, pets and babies are still being euthanized every minute of the day ! Let’s spread the word to people to get THEIR PETS FIXED!, no more babies , breeders need to be regulated , there are not enough homes in this world for the amount of babies being produced on a daily basis, it’s selfish ! I think it's great that you're fostering her but to be frustrated after 5 days when she's lived outside with no human contact for her entire life I think she's going to need longer than 5 days to figure it out
She is *feeling* frustrated, she is not frustrated at the dog itself. We are all impatient in some ways, do not take her words negatively. She was just expressing emotion.
