Thank you. You do need a dual frequency chirp transducer, but no black box. Mine comes straight off the Airmar TM265. Some transducers also tell you what sort of bottom you are over, unfortunately I need another black box to get that information from the TM265.

Im in the market for a new sounder from the elite fs 9in, i plan to do alot of game fishing and am tossing up between this sounder and the nss evo3s, do you think this one is worth the extra $$?
Definitely, for the style of fishing I do. I don't chase game fish but from my first outing with it I think that the B54 transducer with its 120 degree beam should be good for spotting midwater game fish. If you are not planning to get the B54 (TM or other version) then I can't really speak to how those two would compare if they were both running a different transducer, an Airmar 275 for instance. My decision was also based on interfacing other Furuno items, such as the autopilot and eventually, radar.
