  • In the video clip you can see 2 different applications, the first panel uses spray primer and the second panel uses roll primer, Both applications use the same primer because with Drytronic technology a specific primer for roller is not necessary, In fact the normal primer used in spray application works as well.
The video clip of the primer shows the process where the robot dries between every coat allowing the technician to work continuously without waiting for flash off time.
Roll primer works as well as spray primer, obtaining the same thickness and very similar orange peel and it is possible to use it on every size and angle of panels, without any specific problems, reducing masking time and so allowing us to also apply the primer outside the spraybooth or the preparation bay.
The drawing shows the process phases and the time to paint 3 panels using SPAP, only 26 minutes, compared to the conventional process of 56minutes.

With all due respect, I could see using roll primer when it comes to a whole panel, but not spots. I have used the Sherwin Williams “Squeegee Primer”. It does it feather out very nice. Yes I used a block. No, I may not have been instructed properly. I continued to spray it. If I could get the results out of the roller application that I want, hands down it would be better.
