Aloha from Hawaii. We farm 52 crops each year. Planting new tomato crop each week. 5700 acres of Tomato,bell peppers, watermelons, bananas and others harvesting 6 day a week year around. All sold in Hawaii. Family farm and enjoy each of your videos. Larry

In the UK we do winter and spring cropping. Rarely if any double crops. Normally a winter crop of wheat, barley, OSR would be the normal. OSR would be planted in august to harvest the following July and the wheat/barley drilled in late September - October to harvest the following july-august.
Spring cropping is then drilled from February to may to harvest later in the same summer - August to September time. These are crops like field beans, spring wheat, spring barley oats and peas. About the only double cropping done around us is on dairy farms where a crop of grass would be put in after maize harvest in the autumn for silage - say September, then cut in April for grass silage and then followed by another crop of maize. This practice is another way of getting a useable cover crop after maize, rather than planting a cover crop that would otherwise be ripped up in the spring to plant maize for silage again.
We try to get a winter and summer crop when we can over in Texas but a lot of times it’s like you said, moister is your biggest limiting factor. If you do get the moister over winter to make a crop, the timing to get it off is really narrow in order to get the summer crop in. It can be a bit of a headache but it is possible with moister and lots of fertilizer. Lol winter crops around here are mainly wheat and oats, the summer crop is almost always Sudan in our area. Some guys a little further east can get corn to grow but we don’t hardly see any of that right here where we are.

Double cropping, the last few years I've been lucky to get a crop... been really dry summers here in Wales, last year I had to top my 1st cut hay /haylage crop and managed to get some off by September, it was nice stuff but no real quantity, here I west Wales
have summer sorghum harvest, chicks/winter wheat planting and cotton pick happening side by side up here in cq, nice to see you guys get some fluffy white fields going
With Center Pivot irrigation, Turnips are drilled (sown) into winter wheat stubble after harvest. Then cattle graze the Turnips and volunteer Wheat.
Here in the Midwest, USA we can plant winter wheat and then soybeans into the stubble for a bubble crop. As well as bail the wheat for straw.

Hey Brad, really enjoy your channel. It’s fun to watch you guys work down there the land and the size of the field is amazing. Our second crop is snow. You never know how much you’re gonna get and you can’t give it away.

It’s not even my crop and I’m eager to see it harvested. Crops setting in the fields waiting to be harvested, makes me as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Lol Can’t wait to see the strippers/ pickers running. Blessings!!

Well Brad, I know that in some parts of Thailand they can have two crops of rice per year (where they have more rainfall). In the poorer parts (in the east) they only get one rice crop. Also, I had a girlfriend who grew longans out of season and therefore got paid a premium for out of season longans.

Great video once again and very informative. As for winter cropping, here in Normandy the local farmers will sow a winter grass crop after cereals and sometimes earlier harvested corn silage to get additional grass silage before ploughing the ground and planting the main maize silage crop. Coming from the UK I had not seen this before except stubble turnips for the over wintering feed of sheep on wheat and barley stubble before spring sowing or potatoes etc. I'm pretty impressed as the grass yields are pretty heavy too.
🎶I never picked cotton 🎵 and no one else from my family has either.

Looks like a good crop of cotton.
Over here on the other side of of the ditch we grow grain and as soon as they are harvested we put in winter feed for cows or sheep the winter feed is grass rape or oats or we can put two lots of cereal silage in one season
Crop rotation and soil rejuvenation. How long before you plant cotton it that paddock and what types of crops are used in-between to boost soil quality. Do you ever plant a green manure crop?
If it becomes part of the regular rotation it would probably be at least 4 years👍

Why do you guys plant the rows so far apart
it is "skip row" for dryland crops (crops grown with no available irrigation source) that will need the most moisture that is generally available for the area from rain....in their case they had a lot of rain this year so they may have gotten away with regular rows, but some years on a dryland crop the skip row will yield better than regular rows if there is less rain because the roots can spread further for the moisture especially the roots closer to the surface if you are having small amounts of rain at a time
