1969 - 1971 Was painted that same color, I have a 1970 in similar condition as yours. These motors were very common in their day, but very low hour ones in great shape are extremely rare today. I hope you know it's true value, as I was offered $1,200 for mine and I turned it down. These are as close to new as anyone can get and get more rare as time goes on. A lot of great condition motors like this have met the fate of being parted out - they are worth way more that way sadly.
These excellent examples of American manufacturing history probably belong in a museum somewhere but I'm using mine as it was intended. I hope yours give you many years of faithful service.
Ole and Ralph would have been proud that they are still around today, even though their company is not.
I believe someone painted that engine which is why there's over spray on the plugs. You can find that same color paint in ship stores and some auto parts stores.
Considering the overall condition of this engine, the rarity of these old plugs (that they stopped making many years ago) I doubt it was ever repainted.
Less than 40 hrs on the motor???? Not completely fouled! Its a keeper as long as it rotates thru!
Original probably I’d replace them👍
So is this good or bad?
It’s interesting!
I have a motor to show you... How?
