- David Lindley and El Rayo X @ The Roxy - Washington DC 4-1-88
More from the Beta-Max Masters Collection
most likely recorded by Dave R but another from our time working there...
this is all I can find - I think it's the first set/show and it starts late.
NOTE: other versions of this exist on youtube but individual tunes vs this uncut version.....
Another gem from the undisputed, underrated all-time stringmaster. I shore miss this guy!
Thank you for sharing such an iconic piece of American folklore! David is legend ❤
Two of best live shows I’ve seen were this band
Songs are: Papa Was a Rolling Stone, She Took off my Romeos, BonTon Roulet, Rag Bag, Mercury Blues, and Talk to the Lawyer. Video quality here is significantly better than the other single-song clips posted elsewhere on YT, although everybody should check those out as well to hear the rest of the set, especially "Hands Like a Man".
Thanks for sharing this. A real gift for Mr. Lindley fans. Real music fans.
I confess, I went to the encore to hear David do "Mercury Blues." Then I went back to hear the rest of the show. Blistering slide guitar. Thank you!
He was so great, glad he played around our neighborhood quite frequently, saw hin with Hami Nasser on Hornby Island one summer, he got a speeding tickets in his rented Mercury, but the best was in Courtney at the log Old Fellows Hall, he had the sensational Wally Ingram on drums, we were all sitting there, they came on and started Cat Food Sandwiches, and witin 10bars everyone was up and dancing! So sad he's gone.
Nothing like the old Beta-Max collection! Keep up the good work Mark.
so good.
The dub was on point!
Who is the drummer ? He is doing pretty good !
The drummer is Walfredo Reyes Jr, who later played with Santana and Chicago.
Does anyone remember the name of the guitarist who was in the band at this time?
That's [Ray Woodbury] on on 2nd guitar. Also, the bassist here is Phil Chen, and not Jorge Calderone as you might expect. [I had erroneously written previously that the second guitarist was Bernie Larsen]
