As is the norm with the Jazz World,it's only after this genius is gone will he receive the accolades he so richly deserves.Everything that's great about classic jazz,is encapsulated in Mr Marty Grosz. If you have the honour of seeing him perform,I strongly suggest you take advantage of the opportunity. His Like will all be gone far too soon.
@karinablacktie Marty Grosz just sent me a note telling me a story of him and my uncle the jazz bassist Major Holley doing this song as a duet...I'm sure there couldn't have been a dry eye in the house with the two of them carrying on in comic banter!!
When Major Holley was asked to describe his lifelong work as a stringbassist he pondered a while then rumbled sardonically "I guess I spent 45 years trying to make lousy front lines sound BETTAH." As a ditto long term bassist I chimed with that!
@tholley8215 I'm just noticing this. Oh, it's delightful. I will share it with friends who have equally good taste, and enjoy a good story. Thanks, m'friend.
Returned to watch this for the umpteemth time. What a master! :-)

Andy Razaf wrote the words, James P Johnson the melody.
A Porter's Love Song to a Chambermaid??? I thought that was the title.
Probly didn't fit UA-cam title space
