The best K- Tel album ever. Discovered First Choice,Albert Hammond,s Free Electric Band,Cliff Richards Power to all our friends, and my favorite on there,The Morning After from the Number One movie at the box office for the first six months of 1973, The Poseidon Adventure. And many other greats on that album. A lot of people think that Van McCoys The Hustle from 75 was the first Disco song,I have always believed that the first Disco song was Armed and Extremely Dangerous, then What a difference a day makes by Ester Phillips. Opinions vary.
I forget if it was K-Tel's "Fantastic" or "Dynamite" compilation, but it's only because of those cheesy comps that I first discovered "Misdemenaor" by Foster Sylvers, the Greatest Jackson 5 Song that the Jackson 5 Never Recorded! (And man - were those grooves COMPRESSED, or what?!?!?)
@@drlock978 You are 100% correct that Van McCoy's "The Hustle" was NOT the first Disco record, which is not to take away from Van's classic one bit. I first heard this at the Deja Vu in Indianapolis. It sounded INCREDIBLE on the dance floor along with tracks by Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Love Unlimited Orchestra, Eddie Kendricks, Earth Wind & Fire, and Herbie Hancock. SO MUCH FUN. I became a big fan of this group. They were sort of The Supremes of the pre-disco years. If you've never heard their version of "Love and Happiness" on the album "First Choice Greatest Hits" (Salsoul Records) you will be blown away ! But "Doctor Love" is my all-time favorite of theirs.
