My dad was this way. Didn't own guns. I am grown up now in my own apartment and I use guns. Using a baseball bat to defend yourself against an intruder is actually pretty brutal if we are being honest. There's a reason why the Taurus G3C exists or the maverick 88 exists or even the Ruger 10/22 exists. People wanna diss the Ruger and cartridge, but personally I see the 10/22 as the AK of the .22 world. it fires everything, and for elderly people children or small statured people it can give them 25 rounds to provide a swarm of bees effective immediately with nearly no recoil. This is why I recommend the AR-15 that everyone wants to ban so much to these people. The AR-15 is easier to use for the children elderly or short statured.
Yeah, the lifted eotech that's out of line with the front iron sight, to make it work with the magnifier that gets in the way of the rear sight just so he has more peripheral vision is... interesting lol He either didn't plan it well, wants to look cool, or doesn't know what he's doing. But yes spending more money on your rifle with knowledge of what you're doing can make it drastically better. Ie. A full auto rated BCG, binary trigger, better barrel with more twist etc

Great gun. But home defense I would definitely use something cheaper and still reliable. Police will confiscate your weapon to do the investigation. It’s going to take a while to get it back.
I used to think like that but later on I believe if I happen to be in a fight for my life and my family I would definitely want to have the best gun that I shoot best. The rifle is replaceable.

I'd rather get super -proficient with a gun that's reliable and reasonalbly priced to the point where I don't mind it getting beat up a bit or held hostage by the police for a few months (or years) in the case of a real self-defense use, then have a very nice and expensive range toy that I take out every once in a while just for funsies. If I'm the extreme statistical outlier that will have multiple self-defense uses of a firearm and the police need to hold more than one of my guns for concurrent investigations, then I'd rather give them the nice one last.

I’d Re-barrel to .300 blk, ditch the magnifier, ditch the laser as both aren’t needed at all in a standard home defense situation. Use 205 - 220 grain subsonic hollow points.
i'd remove the suppressor (why use a suppressor fo home defense, it make your gun longer, heavy and is useless), remove the magnifier and the eotech, use a lower profile red dot (cheaper, lighter and the battery is longer and whit that magnifier, you cant use the rear iron sight), add a sling, put a flip up front iron sight, change the dust cover (gust for look, i dont like that a lot, only a personal opinion), good carging handle, love the coloro combination. If you whanted to have a longer distance setup, use a LPVO, is cheaper, lighter, more zoom, and add a 45° red dot, cheaper than a eotech whit magnifier, change the grip, too small, i love the magpul MOE, the selector is good, but a good 45° is better, they are snappier and faster to engage, the trigger is good but i will use a single stage flat trigger, nice stock but i will use a CTR. Good build overall, but i would change almos everithing for home defence... thats more a war gun...
For me, the I would change to Geissele SD-E trigger and I would run a T-2 with no magnifier in a Scalerworks 1/3 mount. It’s a M18, Keep it slick! DD fixed front and rear irons And I would run a BCM vert grip canted forward And I’m a surefire guy. I’d be running the scout pro with pressure switch in a Cloud Defense mount in the 12 o’clock position and Surefire Socom suppressor. 😊
I would’ve gone with the G SSA trigger, it’s actually crane spec and certified to be “combat safe”. You don’t want a light competition trigger on a duty rifle bc of stress induced negligent discharges. And the SOCOM RC2 can is pretty much made for this gun (other than kac can you can’t find). I have two of these setups, one with the eotech and magnifier, and one with a 1-4x LPVO. I love em for what they’re designed for 100 yds and in.
Im doing a similar build now. Same black and FDE scheme with the same suppressor but I decided against the Eotech with unity riser and G33 with ftc mount. That build was like $4,200 and Im going with a Holosun 403b and Hm3x magnifier instead and it brought it down to $2,800. The optic system didn’t seem worth it to me
I'd take that magnifier off. Unless you live on property and expecting you may have to take long range shots to defend the home, it's just unnecessary. But if you're expecting that, then a Mk18 isn't exactly the way to go either. If it's just for the house then you'll never use a magnifier and it just adds bulk/weight.

if sitting for long periods of time by all means drench it if all you have is thin stuff. but when i rack a round a year later i want it to sound like its losing its virginity to a jar of ky jelly, not a broken arm with a full cast giving a handy to bicentenial man using a few 6 month old drops of hoppes#9. hence why learning when to use oil vs grease is important. not going to be used for a while? use thicker oils. some oils like hoppes9 is basically a slightly more slippery form of water. which means you need more to ensure good coverage.
My truck gun and home defense is is the same as that just a few modifications different they both have dbal d-2 ir laser with jp enterprise adjustable bcg and bufferspring with timney dh3 trigger radian raptor charging handle and a silencerco hybrid 46 suppressor with a surefire flashlight his rifle price is roughly $6k to 7k both mine r 8k to 9k rough estimate
And a 9" 300 black out with a can and subs is REALLY the best for home defense. Less collateral damage. Not going to go through multiple walls and materials. And a 556 with a can still does not get under the hearing pain threshold. So it's still going to be painful when you shoot. Not with the 300blk subs with a can, though. Shoot that without ear pro all day long. And it's shorter, because 300blkm was designed to run from a 9" barrel, and you can actually go a little shorter. Maybe down to 7.5.

My EOTech is like yours I think with the QD for lower 2/3 co-witness. If you had to transition to backup irons would you still be able to see it or would you need to remove the optic?
I’d try to cut back on weight. That is a 10lb+ cqb gun. Ditch the heavy ass sandman for a jumbo shrimp or trash panda, throw the buis away, and swap the owl for something not 1350 lumens that also weighs a ton like a mini scout pro.
I'd switch out the front and rear you have for standard MBUS front and rear, a Radian Raptor charging handle, and a Magpul CTR stock. Other than those little things, love the setup
For home defense, a lightweight rifle with a light is superior to everything, including the kitchen sink. Don't even need an optic for shooting across the room or front yard. 🤠

What do you think about the cry havok barrel swap kit? You can run different barrel sizes or same with night/day set up. I was even thinking about a .50 Beowulf/7.62x39 they use the same bolt. .450BM and .458 socom use the same bolt as well. It would be cool to see someone do this a true multi-caliber AR build

If it’s a combat rig that pulls double duty as home defense that’s different… but if they only thing he’s using this for his defending his home I think he’d be fine with the rifle, an optic, a weapon light, a sling, and the suppressor… also change out the caliber from 5.56 to 300Blk because when you run sub-sonic ammo through a can it’s almost movie level quiet.

I'm just saying, if I hit you in your body armor at 5 yards with buckshot, chances are you will die regardless if you get penetrated by the pellets or not. I cannot say this is the same for .556. Edit Guy says home defense rifle but unless there's like land and property to defend I don't actually see this being more effective than a shotgun. There's a reason why both shotguns and long range rifles exist. They give an advantage to the average person, against this gun. For more medium to close ranges, this rifle is the best. Anything farther an AR-10 will outshine this gun, anything closer an AR-12 will outshine this gun. It's a reason they exist.
I think the magnifier is interesting. You cant get much PID with a 3x magnifier, and the ballistics on a 10.3 barrel for 5.56 means you can only engage targets within 100m (EFFECTIVELY) and if you cant hit a human sized target at 100m with a red dot thats big oof
What would I change? If money was no object... Nothing. If I'm working within the confines of my real world budget... I'd basically change it into the 16" franken-rifle that I currently own.
I like the minimalist hogue overmolded buttstock and hogue rubberized pistol grip. Maybe id do a surefire suppressor but other than that fantastic. Looks similar to my SHTF gyn

I went a different direction. I use a custom cut down browning gold 10ga, with 6+1 and a light. don't need a suppressor if everyone is deaf lol

@@agreatpineapple2201 20 inches. The original barrel was 36 I believe. If you want an SBS start with a break action or magazine fed so you don't sacrifice capacity. For my purpose with the round I'm using, 6+1 is plenty

@@agreatpineapple2201 you most likely have a marlin goose gun. It's your property but given the value of that particular gun I'd advise against doing anything to it.
@heavilyarmedhippie75 I'm not sure tbh. It's pretty rusted and has no stock at all. It just needs a stock and it's fully there haha. It was in my grandfather's closet since easily 20 years before I was born.
Can you even use the folding iron sights with all the other gear on the rail in front of it? And at which point do you feel your need that iron sight after you dumped all that money into the rifle? It's be pissed off I needed the iron sights after all that investment.

What do you think about the cry havok barrel swap kit? You can run different barrel sizes or same with night/day set up. I was even thinking about a .50 Beowulf/7.62x39 they use the same bolt. .450BM and .458 socom use the same bolt as well. It would be cool to see someone do this a true multi-caliber AR build

I feel you though. His rig is a tad over complicated for a “home defense rig” if that’s it’s ONLY purpose. If it’s a combat rig that pulls double duty as home defense that’s different… but if they only thing he’s using this for his defending his home I think he’d be fine with the rifle, an optic, a weapon light, a sling, and the suppressor… also change out the caliber from 5.56 to 300Blk because when you run sub-sonic ammo through a can it’s almost movie level quiet.

@@bubble_boy0963completely agree like they sell cheap turkey shotguns that are good they sell AR-12s that are good they sell semi auto shotguns that are good all for 1/5th the price of this and hands down is going to be better than this for close range. I'm just saying, if I hit you in your body armor at 5 yards with buckshot, chances are you will die regardless if you get penetrated by the pellets or not. I cannot say this is the same for .556.

Guy says home defense rifle but unless there's like land and property to defend I don't actually see this being more effective than a shotgun. There's a reason why both shotguns and long range rifles exist. They give an advantage to the average person, against this gun. For more medium to close ranges, this rifle is the best. Anything farther an AR-10 will outshine this gun, anything closer an AR-12 will outshine this gun. It's a reason they exist.

I think the magnifier is interesting. You cant get much PID with a 3x magnifier, and the ballistics on a 10.3 barrel for 5.56 means you can only engage targets within 100m (EFFECTIVELY) and if you cant hit a human sized target at 100m with a red dot thats big oof
What would I change? If money was no object... Nothing.
If I'm working within the confines of my real world budget... I'd basically change it into the 16" franken-rifle that I currently own.
I like the minimalist hogue overmolded buttstock and hogue rubberized pistol grip. Maybe id do a surefire suppressor but other than that fantastic. Looks similar to my SHTF gyn
Iron sights are unusable on this set up.
Eotech is lifted out of alignment with the front sight and the magnifier prevents rear sight from function
The mounts allow the sights to be taken off very quickly
