Even a gravel lot is a red flag that a stop might be questionable especially if there is even a hint of paid parking. I would love to see more truck stop reviews because even if you aren't a trucker it might useful for family road trips and the like.
This used to be a nice truck stop maybe 15-20 years ago. I used to love stopping there. But it has changed hands a couple of times, since then. First as a terminal for a frac sand/dry bulk carrier, and now as a foreign owned truck stop again. I won’t stop there now.

Truckstops are NOT what they use to be. In 1974 Union 76 truckstop was the major truckstop. The big orange ball in the sky could be seen a mile away. Drivers had their own place to sit and eat. They also had bunkhouse where you slept. You were provided clean sheets, pillow and blanket. You were treated like a real KING OF THE ROAD.
Every truck stop owned by this group of people I have been to. It's the same. And formers employees that I have met in different places. Have said that they have been not getting paid for the work. After some bad experiences I do not stop and buy anything there like you said. Thank you for showing you're public about this 💩holes

@David Henry Love Masala but you have to be weary of where you're buying it from. Inside look clean so it might be alright. I live in L.A. a major city but the best Tiki Masala I ever had was in Pennsylvania, a small fuel station across the street from a pilot.
The fifth wheel Truckstops were the best. They had a motel attached to them. A chapel outside. They had a billiards/game room, a theatre, a barbershop, live bands Friday nights, big diner, a coffee room, convenience stores all in one truck stop. In 2015 they tore them all down. The one in Bowmanville Ontario was the best.
My family and I go to a antique farm tractor show every Labor day weekend. We always book a room at our favorite Super8. Just recently it got bought out and is now run by a Packistani. We had made reservations months in advance. We we arrived, they had canceled our reservation a day before. Then they were charging us double the rate we had booked for. The whole place was disgusting also. We have run into of Packistani run places. About the same experience.
Used to travel for work. We found it best to always call the front desk before making reservations online. And if it's a Packi, Indian, or any other foreign run place,. Skip that hotel. They don't put any money into upkeep and most of time the place is run down and smells.
As an ex-trucker come contractor, I won't even consider working for Indians any more; not only are they cheap and lazy, but they think your invoice/bill is a haggling point and will do any and all to cheat you. The last one I had to tell, "We are not at a market arguing over the price of fish heads; this is your bill for expert workmanship, you pay it or you will find out how Judges in Georgia are in favor of contractors!"
That lot looks pretty much the same way as the parking lot was at the 'Old Laredo Truck Stop.' You damn-near needed a lunar rover so you'd be able to dodge all the craters...😬
Years ago the company I drove for had us fueling at the "Double Nickel" on I-55 Hayti, Missouri. The showers were filthy and I asked the employees how they cleaned them... Did they look in and if there weren't any dead bodies in there they called it clean?
The damn petro in Shreveport has about 200 parking and 80-90% of them are reserved and cost 20$. That shit pisses me off. They take advantage of truck drivers.
I heard a mechanic in one of the Truckstops say before that, They put one of their trucks on a rack and discovered a hatch and dried poop all over the undercarriage of the truck and on the drive shaft.lol Apparently the team drivers didnt want to stop and so one bombs away while the other had their nose in the wind.lol So its like a person spittin chewing tobbacky out of a moving vehicle.lol
A truckstop in Houston, Texas on Mccarthy and Liberty Road passed the Loves and Pilot not too far from 610 is very nasty and they charged ten dollars to park and junk is everywhere at that truckstop
A one stop shop for forced alignment jobs, torn mud flaps, drug paraphernalia, athletes foot, the food poisoning, 3rd world credit card scams, and whatever that weird rash is...and you have to PAY for that luxury. DEFINITELY a taste of Pakistan! There really needs to be some sort of minimum requirement/regulations for truck stops.
I know this truck stop very well, I used to drive for greyhound and had a run from Houston to Texarkana, this was our stop for pick up. This is not a great place. The former own was extremely nice and asked that I let the passengers out to shop, I had no problem with taking a few minute break. It was never a go to place for me when driving trucks.
If that truck stop was mine, id have it wrapped around my pinky. I have Scottie in my blood, so i don't know how to borrow or waste money, but it would be elegant. An efficient diner, bathrooms designed to clean up, free password free wifi, wide marked parking spaces, a Jersey Shore theme. Prices need to be fair and not for parking. .....Your audio is now beautiful and leveled even. It will make all Bonehead episodes easy on the ears. I use Audacity 1.2.6 .

This used to be the Pony Express Truck Stop. The lot looks better than I remember, but whenever I went, it was always for the food- until they replaced burgers with halal this and curry that and it smelled like a porta-john in there.
I talked to a guy that had 4 people with him in the cab. He said the cab of that truck was better/nicer than the homes they lived in back where they came from. So, for most of us that see it as trashy, to them it's the Luxor in Vegas. We're only getting their brightest and best, right ?
They only stop for fuel. Drive, sleep, cook, piss and shit thru hole in floor...oh, and burn incense for odor control...notice I didn't say anything about showering.
Like most south Asian enterprises, it looks like a 'work in progress', and a casual one at that! It looks like they sell Indian food, so that's probably the big draw, serving the growing south Asian drivers out there. I'd bet that, if you asked nicely in either Hindi or Urdu (or bought at least 100 gal's of fuel), they'd give you free parking. Or maybe not; Pakistani businessmen are noted for being cheap. Regardless, they ain't trying for business from guys like you. Report back in a few months to see how they're doing. Maybe you could (gasp!!) actually interview a few south Asian drivers? You know, since so many of them are now part of the trucking industry?
Why bother they are destroying the industry and have to interest to integrate into our society this is why nobody gives a crap. All the truck stops I grew up with as a kid are gone or taken over by some foreigner that ran the place into the ground. As a trucker of 3yrs now it's very sad to see our future looks pretty dim.

There are VERY few independent truck stops out there that look better is all I’m gonna say! Just stayed at the Southfork truck stop in Gurdon, AR for the last time after i was told initially that paid parking was on the paved portion infront of the fuel island. Got a knock on the door telling me i needed to pay while parked in the mud filled gravel lot at 1030pm, i had been there for 4 hours! Didn’t pay and told him if he knocked on my door again he would be greeted with a Sig P320 at the window. He didn’t knock again and i will never spend another dime there.
I'd pay them to not park there. Apparently they no speaka english or understand that by forcing drivers to pay for parking they're also responsible to get any and all drivers stuck in that mud when it rains because paid parking eliminates the park at your own risk. Shame on that mess

I was there last week. I was to tired to keep driving at night. Everything was full except for that place . I pulled in and had to lock up my differentials. I was like wha that hell the I got myself into. I parked and stayed in my truck. I wasn't going to pay or buy anything. There is no way the I even will reach for my wallet at all !!!!! To tell you the truth I felt like I may get rob here. So it was a bad night of sleep. I left in the morning with no one telling me anything about paying.

I like your 'Dumb truck stops' edition, there's a lot of them out there and this saves a lot of time during planning of where not to waste your time, and from the craters, our paychecks for repairs.

I posted a video back in the beginning of November I think of a truckstop called the Palace that I stopped at while in the New Orleans area. It was the worst truckstop I had ever seen.

You got the main fuel building then you had the main building which had a lot of broker offices and stuff back in the day and a restaurant and other stuff like a classic East Coast truck stop. Now the restaurants there but it's mainly local crackheads that hang out there and it closes early and you have the fuel building in the back but for the most part it's basically just parking for locals and derelicts and everything else now. They do have a scale they sell soda and they have some sandwiches they make but they ain't worth a damn Many many years ago it had cross docks and there was a little trucking company that used to run out of it but we're talking about before Katrina back in the '90s.
I been to the worst pilot I ever been to. Worst then The Palace. Look up the Pilot in Miami Gardens, Florida. My advice never stop there. Took me almost a hour to get in, get fuel, get out.

The worst Truck stop is any Truck stop with more than one Swift truck in its parking lot. Mayhem and destruction is guaranteed if 2 Swift drivers are on the move that close together.
Yeah a Swift driver destroyed my personal truck in a row of 6 other 4 wheel vehicles until he was stopped on a tree 🌳. He was trying to turn around on the car side at a TA.

All the Hadji places, big, and small, around the country, seem to be so shabby, third world, under stocked, thrown together. But.. to them, it is modern.
Their hotels go downhill fast as well. Used to stay in some nice hotels until the Patel family bought them. Don’t care for curry cooking in the hallways where there are no kitchens in the rooms
The independent truck stops have been getting bought up by foreigners for years. The hotel with the beautiful view next door is probably also owned by foreigners, maybe even from the same family.

I've always though of building one, but never had the money. I know it would take millions of $ to make that happen. I only drove for a short time from 1992-94, but still to this day respect what you guys and gals go through. I've talked with a few drivers in the last few years and they tell me it's worse than it ever was, makes me kinda glad I didn't stay with it.

I talked to a guy that had 4 people with him in the cab. He said the cab of that truck was better/nicer than the homes they lived in back where they came from. So, for most of us that see it as trashy, to them it's the Luxor in Vegas. We're only getting their brightest and best, right ?
They only stop for fuel. Drive, sleep, cook, piss and shit thru hole in floor...oh, and burn incense for odor control...notice I didn't say anything about showering.

Like most south Asian enterprises, it looks like a 'work in progress', and a casual one at that! It looks like they sell Indian food, so that's probably the big draw, serving the growing south Asian drivers out there. I'd bet that, if you asked nicely in either Hindi or Urdu (or bought at least 100 gal's of fuel), they'd give you free parking. Or maybe not; Pakistani businessmen are noted for being cheap. Regardless, they ain't trying for business from guys like you.
Report back in a few months to see how they're doing. Maybe you could (gasp!!) actually interview a few south Asian drivers? You know, since so many of them are now part of the trucking industry?
Why bother they are destroying the industry and have to interest to integrate into our society this is why nobody gives a crap. All the truck stops I grew up with as a kid are gone or taken over by some foreigner that ran the place into the ground. As a trucker of 3yrs now it's very sad to see our future looks pretty dim.

If we tried to go to a foreign country they wouldnt just hand out a license like they do here and you couldnt just get by speaking English only not knowing how to read or understand their language? No not in a million yrs they have it pretty good here. Just like that trucker that slaughtered 8 people in Colorado apparently he could barely speak English and had no clue what a runaway ramp was. A crying shame is what that was.
There are VERY few independent truck stops out there that look better is all I’m gonna say! Just stayed at the Southfork truck stop in Gurdon, AR for the last time after i was told initially that paid parking was on the paved portion infront of the fuel island. Got a knock on the door telling me i needed to pay while parked in the mud filled gravel lot at 1030pm, i had been there for 4 hours! Didn’t pay and told him if he knocked on my door again he would be greeted with a Sig P320 at the window. He didn’t knock again and i will never spend another dime there.
Good place to pick up a pot pipe or bong though. 😯🤣🤣🤣
I'd pay them to not park there. Apparently they no speaka english or understand that by forcing drivers to pay for parking they're also responsible to get any and all drivers stuck in that mud when it rains because paid parking eliminates the park at your own risk. Shame on that mess

I remember stopping there about 20 years ago and the place was the same then as it is now. I left in a hurry when I found out that the truck parking area is actually the leach field for the sewage septic system,,,

I was there last week. I was to tired to keep driving at night. Everything was full except for that place . I pulled in and had to lock up my differentials. I was like wha that hell the I got myself into. I parked and stayed in my truck. I wasn't going to pay or buy anything. There is no way the I even will reach for my wallet at all !!!!! To tell you the truth I felt like I may get rob here. So it was a bad night of sleep. I left in the morning with no one telling me anything about paying.
Like Texas needs a Pakastani truck stop with Indian food, just what I dream and crave for while I am driving down the road. Just yesterday I was thinking some Pakastani food poisoning would hit the spot.
Soon as you said Marshall TX, I knew where you were headed, yeah! I don't visit that place at aaaalllll !!!! I only go to trucks stops to fuel and get food, I learned my lesson to not park at truck stops because you go take a shower and when you get back, you get see the big surprise some other dickhead driver did to your truck and he's nowhere to be found and nobody knows anything.

I like your 'Dumb truck stops' edition, there's a lot of them out there and this saves a lot of time during planning of where not to waste your time, and from the craters, our paychecks for repairs.

I posted a video back in the beginning of November I think of a truckstop called the Palace that I stopped at while in the New Orleans area. It was the worst truckstop I had ever seen.
You ain't been up highway 1 and 9 in New Jersey son. The palace old and run down but nothing like some of those places that are still there.
I been to the Palace to scale. I was confused. Like is this a truck stop or a cross dock truck terminal.
@@jonathanthordsen6251 used to be old school kind of truck stop set up like New Jersey old rubes and Jersey City kind of places.
You got the main fuel building then you had the main building which had a lot of broker offices and stuff back in the day and a restaurant and other stuff like a classic East Coast truck stop.
Now the restaurants there but it's mainly local crackheads that hang out there and it closes early and you have the fuel building in the back but for the most part it's basically just parking for locals and derelicts and everything else now.
They do have a scale they sell soda and they have some sandwiches they make but they ain't worth a damn
Many many years ago it had cross docks and there was a little trucking company that used to run out of it but we're talking about before Katrina back in the '90s.
I been to the worst pilot I ever been to. Worst then The Palace. Look up the Pilot in Miami Gardens, Florida. My advice never stop there. Took me almost a hour to get in, get fuel, get out.
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist When we were there the restaurant was close, the showers were closed, they advertise to casino but it was just one small room with a couple of video games in it. Andy convenience store there was bare shelved but not all of the gas pumps even worked

The worst Truck stop is any Truck stop with more than one Swift truck in its parking lot. Mayhem and destruction is guaranteed if 2 Swift drivers are on the move that close together.
Yeah a Swift driver destroyed my personal truck in a row of 6 other 4 wheel vehicles until he was stopped on a tree 🌳. He was trying to turn around on the car side at a TA.
If there are two Swift trucks in a lot beware, that means there are four Swift drivers there too.
Was fearful for my life yesterday. Was trackside when an Intermodal train came by loaded w/numerous Swift Containers. Thought they’d jump off the Intermodal car & wreck….

All the Hadji places, big, and small, around the country, seem to be so shabby, third world, under stocked, thrown together. But.. to them, it is modern.
Their hotels go downhill fast as well. Used to stay in some nice hotels until the Patel family bought them. Don’t care for curry cooking in the hallways where there are no kitchens in the rooms
The independent truck stops have been getting bought up by foreigners for years. The hotel with the beautiful view next door is probably also owned by foreigners, maybe even from the same family.

I've always though of building one, but never had the money. I know it would take millions of $ to make that happen. I only drove for a short time from 1992-94, but still to this day respect what you guys and gals go through. I've talked with a few drivers in the last few years and they tell me it's worse than it ever was, makes me kinda glad I didn't stay with it.

RONNIES in Marshall Texas towed my truck off interstate after a accident and held my truck for ransom until the insurance company cut them a check for 30k!!!!!!I was out of work for a month!!!!All because they knew that it was no way they would have got that payment without using my truck as a pawn😡😡😡
