Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but- that wasn't a Praying Mantis, that was a stick insect called a "Walking Stick". A praying Mantis is larger, has a triangle shaped head with two very large eyes, and the front two arms are very muscular and not used to walk as much as to capture and hold pray. But the main difference is that they have wings- they can fly. They look very different from a walking stick and will often eat them if they run across one. Of course, they tend to eat everything they run across- they're a very successful predator. A stick insect on the other hand is very good at hiding- that's why they look like a stick- so they can hide amongst them and not be seen by birds or other insects.
I'm so glad you took the Ouachita trail! I've only done a section of it so far - incidentally while hiking around Horse Thief Springs - but I hope to make it my first thru-hike. Those spiders are no joke, especially in October!

3/4 under quilt is rough in cold temps. I used a ccf pad and an inflatable klymit sit pad under my feet. + thick wool socks. And that still generally sucks. Lol I just ended up buying a full length to be more comfortable and it saves on weight. 20 degree yeti to 20 degree heat incubator
What did you drop at 42:50?
