Thanks Steve, a really useful video and it prompted me to change the gas struts on my DB9 Volante after your video highlighted the low cost and ease of replacement. One point other DB9 owners should note is that the gas struts for the boot (trunk) are different to the coupe and so for the Volante you need part number 4G43-L406A10-AB.

Hi Steve, thanks for a really informative video. This afternoon I replaced the boot gas struts on my 2007 DB9 here in Tokyo. What a difference! Now my next job is what to do with those squealing brakes...

Hi Steve, thanks for all of your fantasic videos, I can't begin to tell you how much I have learned from them. I am just about to change the boot (trunk) gas struts on my 2005 DB9 and once I have the boot securely open, I plan to address an issue that I have with the boot latch not closing without really slamming the boot lid down hard. I am sure Aston never intended it to be slammed and I am fearful of causing damage to the rear screen. I have searched the internet for a solution but have only found a single line on another site suggesting that this is easilly fixed by adjusting the floor mounted latch plate "towards the car". I just wonder if you or any of your many followers have any experience of adjusting the latch and can offer any more detailed advice or indeed alternative solutions. Many thanks and keep up the great work.

Thank you, it is nice to hear the videos are helping others. My 2005 Coupe is about the same. It takes a really solid whack to get it to be closed enough to convince the sensor its closed. Too hard in my opinion. Not sure what that adjustment is, but if you figure it out please contact me over on the Aston1936.com page and maybe I can pull a video together about it. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Steve, thanks for another excellent video and guide. Just replaced mine and get exactly same results - it opens further and has better damping but still closes with a thud. Not sure why it's not like most other cars like my daughter's Audi TT where the gas struts provide a full controlled damping action from release to fully open. It would appear the gas struts on the Aston have somewhat limited damping function that does not offer control through the full opening spectrum - personally find this a poor design. Now wondering if I should have had some higher rates ones made to give full damping- but think will live with it ! Thanks 👍

I think using a bit stronger ones will support the trunk a bit better

I used to be technical sales for a gas spring company, the force is normally measured with the rod pushed in 10mm (F1). If you have any questions, ask away.

There are springs that go onto the struts in order to get the trunk to open by itself

NIce video (as always). I replaced the struts in my 2012 Virage last summer, with a very similar result. The hatch of my 2008 Vantage was clearly better - it had stronger struts, and additional small spring elements in the outer corners slowed it down before hitting the frame and latch and lifted it a little bit when unlatching. The trunk lid of the Virage needs to be closed a lot more carefully, and it doesn't move at all when I push the release button. Which also makes it difficult to see if it is latched properly. If someone has found a way to improve this with better gas struts or additional parts, please let me know!
