Hi Andre. Thanks for the video. Is it possible to run VST live via usb or Network input? Seems like Dante cards are sold out right now. I be getting SQ5 within next 2 weeks. Thanks.
The beauty of the SQ is, that you can use tie lines or direct outs. I like to use direct outs over tie lines, because you can find the channel names in the metadata of the recorded wave files. That´s a big plus in my book. Cheers mate!
@denoisestudios: Was thinking the same too. Tie lines are the best way to go IMO. You can label each channel or track in your DAW. Tie lines give you the raw signals without processing even though your main mix is being processed for the front of house. Still used it today in church for a choir recording. But it's great to see different ways of doing something. Thanks for the tutorial.
Hi! I would like to know if on the sq5 I can use USB B - USB C cable instead of USB B - USB A to connect the mixer to a laptop for multitrack recording. Thanks!
HI Elias! You can use a USB A to C cable on the SQ Drive connector (on the front) or a USB B to C cable for the USB connector located on the back of the Mixer. Remember: you can't use both at the same time.
Can you make a video recording in Ableton Live? Its possible with this mixer using outboard gear like using a analog pré or a valve compressor, its possible with this mixer ? Regards from Portugal. Nice Videos.
Hi Andre! Thanks again for your videos, really helpful! Question; what’s the best way in your opinion to listen the recordings? I mean, my laptop have only the headphones outputs and the speakers outputs but the speakers can only reproduce certain frequencies so is not the best option, what I’m asking you is how is the proper wiring to listen the recording accurately? From the laptop headphones output straight to the a pair of studio monitors ? Thanks for any help!
Hi Rober, I listen to recordings through headphones (beyerdynamic DT770) or my studio monitors (Yamaha HS8). Using the laptop´s headphone out is fine for most applictions. If you have a nice audio interface, you could use that as well. Connect the Laptop via USB (assuming it is a USB Audio Interface) to that interface. From there you could use XLR/TS/TRS out to studio monitors or you use the interface´s headphone out. Hope that helps! Cheers, André
Buy an external sound card. your laptop/pc's sound card is not made for recordings. They are about 100 euro. and the sound is notable. I recommend the Beyerdynamic umc404hd
Yes, if you have a dante option card or the waves option card. Those can record up to 64 inputs. No, if you use the build in USB. In that case is the limit 32 inputs. Hope that helps!
hi thanks to your explaint. Can you help me please ? i want to make record audio in my usb key with 64go. But want i record, its only possible to have 2h04. I want to record 6 or 7 hours audio in my university. I only can format usb key in fat32.
Hi, trying to connect my SQ6 to Logic Pro & then onto OBS for livestreaming to UA-cam/Facebook/Zoom etc. I've set up Logic Pro with soundflower but would appreciate a step by step guide to get the SQ6 to talk to my DAW. Would appreciate any guidance. Thanks
Hi Samuel, I never used soundflower before so I can´t help you on that end. But it should be easy to hook up your SQ to Logic. To send Audio from the SQ to Logic 1) go to the I/O tab. 2) Choose outputs on the left side 3) Than you decide, if you want to send your direct outs or MixOuts (Like LR) 4) I assume you use USB. In the top row choose USB 5) Patch your channels. The easiest way is a 1 to 1 patch: direct out 1 to USB 1, direct out 2 to USB 2 etc. ProTip: tip on the first square in the patch matrix. Hold it down and turn the touch screen knob. Oh, and don´t forget to choose SQ Audio in Logics Audio Preferences. Make sure the inputs for all tracks in logic are set correctly. Track 1: Input 1, Track 2: Input2, Track 3: Input 3..... Hope that helps, Cheers
Hi Béla, of course you can that. I do it all the time. I use the SQ drive (the USB port on top of the mixer) with a fast hard drive and copy the recorded .wav files onto my macbook. Works great. Hope that helps, André
You’re very sarcasm isn’t wasted on me and poor guy trying to sincerely help .daws may be better but if you have a computer great but if you don’t understand from the ground up its the same! Wonder things very easily won’t give you options are mostly trained engineer Will probably make your mind explode so I get what you’re gonna do it I think the two would be fine .
I wonder if you know a work-around for the digital noise problem on playback from the DAW over the SQ-5 USB interface, which has a huge, unending thread on the A & H forum... So far, it points towards a cheap, only partially compatible USB chip used, with no solution, since A+H either refuses or can't swap out the USB chip for a better one. Particularly galling, that this problem already existed on the QU line of mixers, and went unfixed for the SQ line!
Hi Builder, which firmware are you on? I'm on 1.5, and didn't notice any noise. But I use my Waves Card for playback most of the time and will check later today if I get noise when using USB. Cheers
I want to connect my allen heath sq6 to arakkis arc talk back mixer. Can i direct it to auxiliary mixes?the signal is too high. Or can i used this usb?
Hi Arsnova, if you connect the SQ to Mic Inputs the inputlevel will be high, because there is a micpreamp build into those inputs that amplifies the signal. Mic Level is always much higher than Line Level. Use the Ext In or Iine in inputs of your talkback mixer. And I´m 90% sure you can not use USB between those two devices. Hope that helps! Cheers, Andre
@@AndreSchaier hey lol I mean like a email. I setup a template in logic for our Sunday service , we have a SQ-5 in which I love the board. When I reloaded the template on Sunday my audio wasn’t coming through the board. I had to do another one. It worked when I first set it up. Can you help me out or should I contact allen&heath support team?

Hi Andre. Thanks for the video. Is it possible to run VST live via usb or Network input? Seems like Dante cards are sold out right now. I be getting SQ5 within next 2 weeks. Thanks.
Hi Igor,
USB yes, Network no.
Network is for connecting your WiFi Router to control your mixer remotely via tablet, smartphone, etc.
I think that the right way to record multiple tracks directly from inputs to a laptop USB is to go to I/O and choose "Tie Lines"

since I don´t have a qu console, I sadly can´t make a video for that setup.
