    My church just installed SQ5's as our broadcast mixers for 2 setups in our sanctuary and the attached school's gym. We started using them right after Thanksgiving with little training aside from the quick on-site overview from the install company and a lot of researching on my own. (I've also needed to train my worship leader and 5 other volunteers since then, while still learning the board myself.) We were previously using a Yamaha LS9-32 by sending an Aux send to the broadcast room and mixing from an iPad on the LS9 app. (Something that discontinued setup was never intended to be used for! lol)
    This has been the best overview video I've seen thus far on the SQ line. Picked up a couple of quick tips and other functions I did not know about yet that will really help. The gentleman that is speaking did a wonderful job giving examples of real applications for certain features, instead of the general explanation with no context of why/how you would use that feature!
    Thank you for the great resource! Highly recommended, especially if you already have a basic understanding of mixing on a digital counsel.

    We just added a new sq7 in our church remodel center. This is a helpful training tool.

    I came to see how the parallel compression worked on these and saw this other jewel:
    I love when pros come in and bring their own mics. They just need an xlr connection - easy peasy.

    8:13 - Everyone who ever touches a microphone needs to hear this. Buy your own mics and beat them all you want, but a simple "check check" will do for anything you don't own.

      Hey Victor, I can make a video for you covering this. My other reply to you goes over this, but I can make a video for you setting this up.

    ya x32 has variable parallel compression on every channel and bus with a wet/dry knob just like this. even the 5-band compressor (combinator) has wet/dry parallel mix. I just wish x32 had the sweet dyn8 like the SQ series has

    Does the SQ6 and SQ7 has the same channels? I will like to know which is better, I am about to place an order for a client?

      The SQ5, 6 and 7 can all mix up to 48 in and 20 outs. On board preamps, faders and soft encoders/buttons are the difference between the boards. They all have the same brain/engine.

    Is there not a way to compress your FX busses? For instance, I’m wanting to compress the delay fx buss.

      You’ll need to route the effects return to a channel or Aux/Matrix to do this. Use the Back Panel on the effect to route it to a channel input, aux or matrix; then you can eq or compress however you’d like.

    Sometimes when people do weird things with microphones, I just get an urge to douse the mixer with gasoline, light a cigar, throw it on and walk away without looking back. Thankfully I don't smoke so that will never happen.

    With regard to the parallel compression, how do the wet / dry controls act when parallel isn't switched in?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  Рік тому

      If you adjust any part of the channel strip when it’s bypassed on the SQ, it still does the processing in the background. The processing will be grayed out, but you can see it doing the math for the compression if you look at the histogram.

    • @mhgbu
      @mhgbu Рік тому

      Thanks, but what I mean is I assume the compression still works - but not parallel when the parallel button isn't switched to on. In that sense how do the wet / dry controls work / interact? Or are they completely ignored and the output is fixed?

    • @Johnbanthony
      @Johnbanthony  Рік тому +1

      @@mhgbu The dry and wet knobs are both bypassed if you have parallel path turned off. When parallel path is on, they are independent volumes of the original signal and the compressed signal. Rather than having a knob that blends linearly between the two, they can be run however you want. Think of this as a fader for dry and wet rather than having something like a pan pot that is constantly blending 0-100 and 100-0 equally inverse. This can be helpful depending on how much compression you have dialed in. If you are using heavy compression, this can be helpful for getting a better balance for volume if the makeup gain isn’t enough. Keep in mind, the makeup gain in the main compressor section will only affect the wet signal. The Sidechain controls also operate with their own bypass button. Using the HPF of the sidechain and/or the parallel dry path you can restore any low end volume/impact you lose from the compression.

      @Johnbanthony  2 роки тому +2

      You can even use sidechain compression on every channel!
