I love that performance! I especially love how Maurice stepped up with the falsetto! The performance on The Midnight Special showcase all three of the brothers, and the nailed it, as they always do with their live performances.
They are just amazing. All decades of them. Saw them when Saturday Night Fever was at the top of the charts as a young teen. OMG. Crazy great. I can understand why they resonate with you. Groovy indeed.
This song is so special in that it was the beginning of Barry's falsetto and the way in which they wrote and performed their music. The harmonies, and change in tempo mid song make it even better. MAIN COURSE was the beginning of a new era for the Bee Gees.
On the 1975 midnight special performance Maurice does a wonderful job at the falsetto. Barry sings in his chest voice. You get to hear all three brothers with a part. This is one of my favorite songs, would love you to see the live version ❤❤❤ The adlib is Blaming it all.
Yes this what they consider their first use of Barry's voice in falsetto and it set the stage to launch them into the stratosphere with their songs featured in Saturday Night Fever.
When they did it live such as the Midnight Special, Maurice did the high falsetto. However, on the record it was Barry. It was really the first time he found his “voice” that dominates the rest of their career.
@@lilamuzik3385 Quincy Jones said it was the best R&B song he had ever heard. Seriously, they have so many amazing songs it impossible to choose, but Fanny be Tender is definitely in my top 5 Bee Gees songs!

It was easy to realise they were back with a bang! I am old enough to remember their first big hits from 1967 to 72 - so this was a real epiphany. And the next 20 years were even more magical!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for staying on The Bee Gees bandwagon. We owe this song to Barry’s now famous falsetto! Still do JIVE TALKING, FANNY BE TENDER from this album! Their previous album (Mr. Natural) didn’t really do that much because they were trying to change their sound from big somber/orchestral sound to more R&B. The album right before Main Course was them trying to experiment with the new sound but not quite there yet. They got is right with the following albums Main Course Children of the World Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and Spirits Having Flown. These albums made them MEGA stars!!!
Absolutely one of their best! Can’t help but hear the Barry Gibb Talk Show SNL theme song when this plays, but that only adds to the enjoyment for me. 😉❤️“Do you have anything to add, Robin?”
I was 10 yrs old when this dropped and I loved this song.. I was a Bee Gees roller skating queen. I love the Bee Gees and I think this is one of my favs! Their songs always took me somewhere else and and it didn't even matter if I didn't really know what the songs were about, their voices and the music just carried me along. I will always cherish the Bee Gees tunes! Thanks SalvoG!
This is my favorite Bee Gees song!! This was the first single released that featured Barry's falsetto voice. Love watching you while you're listening to the music!!
You should check out the live performance of this song on the Midnight Special. Both are amazing, but watching them play instruments and sing, Barry with his chest voice and Maurice with his falsetto which is him on the album except for the Yeah Yeah part which is Barry.
Really can’t go wrong with this group of banded brothers Gibb. But dang Barry straight out of the gate on Nights On Broadway is pure bliss. I always love The Bee Gees from their early songs all the way to the end. These brothers were spectacular in every sense. Their brilliant harmonies are perfect with the music. Great reaction Salvo. Keep going deep into their vast catalog of greatness.
I love the slow section in this with the gorgeous harmonies and also the amazing base line. Please don't leave it so long before doing the Bee Gees again.
Yep, I don't think there was ever a song they did together that I didn't appreciate. Something about their three-part harmonies is something that stays with you. I hadn't heard that song in years; yet, I am instantly taken back to the place and time when this song had a lot of FM radio airplay. Thanks.
Maurice was singing the high background Falsetto in this song, the yeah, yeah part! All 3 of them are just incredible! Love The Bee Gees! There’s plenty more to listen to🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Bee Gees always make me feel good with every song. Here are a few of my favorites. Fannie Be Tender (With My Love) To Love Somebody How Can You Mend a Broken Heart Lonely Days Run to Me This is Where I Came In Inside and Out Tragedy I could go on but I only have so much time..... Enjoy these you won't be disappointed.
The Bee Gees had a very successful career in the 60's, then music changed and they were thrown for a while. Then they realized they could do more with their voices and got an excellent producer in Arif Marden. The rest is history....
I'm thinking you have a very big heart and a whole lot of soul. Watching you enjoy their music with such emotion makes me happy 😊 you are very special ❤️
I used to think of this as just a song, but about 15 years ago I got into a cab and I didn't realize that the cabbie had outfit the entire cab as a sound system with ultra sub woofer bass. He asked if I'd mind some music, and I said I love music. He put on Nights on Broadway. The bass line in ultra-bass was a religious experience and every time I hear the song now I am instantly transported back 15 years to that cab.
This is really a great song. Thank you for reacting to "Nights on Broadway". It was my mother's favorite song of theirs. Barry has the falsetto. Robin sang the chorus and shared the lead with Barry. This was just before Saturday Night Fever and disco/line dancing was just starting. I was 13 when this album came out. Always loved the older songs as I grew up, Massachusetts, I Started a Joke, etc. When this came out along with Jive Talkin' it was definitely the next level.

Maurice falsetto in this song was only on the live show on Saturday Night Live in 1975.

Hello dear friend
I came here because I was attracted by the song
Bee Gees
was my second favorite group in my youth
after The BEATLES
and I lived in the time of this album "Main Course"
which I consider one of their best
and which put them back on the successful commercial path
which was soon followed by the soundtrack of
"Saturday Night Fever"
"Nights on Broadway"
has what I like most about the Bee Gees:
the alternation and contrast of the natural voices
of Barry and Robin, backed by the harmonies of Maurice,
a great rhythm and instrumentation,
and a wonderful melodic bridge
"Nights on Broadway"
is in my Top 3 of this album, along with
the explosive choral "Fanny (be tender with my love)"
😮and the country ballad "Come on over"
and it is also in my Top 5 of the best Bee Gees songs:
Massachusetts
Lamplight
My world
Mr Natural
Nights on Broadway
At the beginning you mentioned the previous Bee Gees albums that were not successful
"Mr Natural" (1974) is the album where the Bee Gees' musical turnaround process began
It is a transitional album that is one of my favorites, although commercially it was a failure
Its main song "Mr Natural" is my favorite Bee Gees song
Can you give a reaction to it?
a bonus request ha
as now you returned to Bee Gees, please return to ABBA
