Clog Dancing Tutorial by Hannah James

- Hannah James has created this short ‘how-to’ clog dancing tutorial film as part of the MERL's 'Museum of the Intangible' project. The film will be used as an interactive in the museum.
As part of the project, Geraint Parfitt, one of only a handful of clog-makers in the UK, made a pair of dancing clogs for Hannah, who has created a new work, Muscle Memory, based on some of the intangible heritage around clog-making, clog-wearing and clog-dancing. This performance formed the basis of The MERL Annual Lecture on 6th November, 2018. After their use in the real world by Hannah, the clogs will subsequently be accessioned into the museum.
Similar to Flat Foot Dancing steps in Southeast USA ... because most of us are from English, Scot, Welsh, Irish ancestry. We dance in street shoes with leather soles and keep our feet close to the floor but step movement is close. We got it from you cloggers!
Hannah, I did the practice steps and dance seated and it was a workout! But much more fun than the gym. You’re a very kind and enthusiastic teacher. TFS
I normally just sit and watch people when they do dance tutorials but I actually got up and did it! It really lifted my spirits, thanks so much for teaching this :)

Love yr clogging video!...they lota that dancing in the US mosty in the Appalachian mtns...but it came frm Europe's Brits and Scots etc countries when ppl moved to America...ours is lil different but same principle...

That was brilliant! Thank you! I don't have the appropriate shoes and was finding it a bit difficult in my Crocs..🤣🤣🤣 so i threw on a pair of cowboy boots! Really helped! But i need more than cowboy boots! 🫣🤭😉

Use any smooth leather soled shoes so you can do the shuffle without it sticking like it would with a sneaker.
