It's not a stingray, pump the gas pedal then turn it over . Pumping the pedal while you are turning it over only floods the engine. You'll find it starts much faster the way I described. Nice looking car!
The car sounds good. Good to see someone else that doesn’t go to the floor immediately with a cold engine. I see that a lot on u tube from guys letting us “hear” the exhaust. Like your car.
The long crank is not because it's a carb, or because he pushed the gas too much. It's because there was no gas due to either a leak in the Quadrajet carb fuel bowl, or it's letting air in the fuel line allowing fuel to drain back to the tank. Try a check valve on the fuel line. if the bowl is full of fuel, one pump should start it and engage the choke. Very common Quadrajet issue on C3 Corvettes.
Maybe don’t start a car in the garage with the garage door down? Probably 175 HP at the crank, but no smoke, but the paint looks reall solid. Great color.
That chip is from the door hinge flange needs to be ground back a little. You can also fix the chip yourself. Labor of love my friend. Enjoy that beauty.
Pump it 2 or 3 times, crack it too 1/8 throttle, turn key. Keep it running with your foot for a min. Every carburetor car I’ve ever driven…including the ones where the choke is either not there(racecar, or street car with a Holly), or removed, or it actually kinda works(rare).
Today’s gas evaporates quickly, that’s why the carb is dry after about a week, which requires turning the engine over a few times to get fuel to the fuel bowl to feed the accelerator pump....
Beautiful car! If you've ever taken a ride in a Corvette with side pipes then you know how much heat they make. Especially in the summer. Still, a fun ride for cruising. 👍
Those are made by Patriot Exhaust. I just bought the 65" lakes style for my '76 L-48 ... hoping it sounds killer but not loud. Had Patriot pipes 35yrs ago...loved them.

Sweet car in great condition! I’m jealous! I’m looking for 1973 or older Stingray. They don’t have catalytic converters! With the side pipes they sound awesome!
Funny how you said people need to learn, yet you state the incorrect process yourself lmfao. If the chokes set correctly and working, u put the pedal to the floor 1 time to set the choke then crank it up.
@@raymondbrockel1733 Key word IF the choke is set correctly. Not to mention it depends on how long the vehicle has been sitting for on whether or not one pump is enough to start the car. Also not all carburetors have electric chokes, some may have manual chokes and people might not know about them. Therefore my point still stands
You shouldn't have to be "pumping" the pedal like that to get it to start. It sounds like your fuel bowl is near empty. If the fuel bowl was filled, a simple depress of the pedal should be enough to start it. There's two things that could be going on here (It sounds like the first one): 1.) The well plugs in your carb are leaking. So after the last run of the engine it was hot, the engine cools down and the plugs that fill these casting holes are allowing gas to seep through into the manifold on the cool down process. Pretty much the only way to verify this is to take the airhorn off the cab after an extended period of the engine being off and physically look in the fuel bowl. 2.) Incorrect preload amount on your lifters. Here's two videos to get you started if it turns out to be that: ua-cam.com/video/5EGlb_VpTAw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/rKUkPS9_aL8/v-deo.html
I actually think the hard time starting is because of what I was doing in the vid. I started pumping the pedal 3 times then turn the key. It usually starts right up. I think I was actually flooding the engine and doing it wrong lol. Learn something new everyday. I didn’t grow up with these cars so it’s all new to me haha. So simple things might take me a second to figure out
@@Roscosgarage Neither did I. Grab a carburetor rebuild sheet and take a look at it's operation. Once you understand how it works you'll understand if you're flooding it or the fuel bowl is actually empty (would happen pretty much every couple of days it's started vs semi consistent flooding, pump twice, three times, then back to two pumps, etc). Have a look at this video, it's pure gold: ua-cam.com/video/_BTEdWt2V3s/v-deo.html -Pat
1000 dollars is cheap if they do it right. That lil blemishes location makes it to where the painter also has to blend on the driver's front fender and blend out the clear so pretty much painting and clear coating 2 panels plus bodywork. What a great price. Hope it turns out good
