Those are the fairing halves. They protect the satellites on the way up through the atmosphere, but they're jettisoned to save weight when they're no longer needed.
I was excited to see this launch. Then, around 7pm, I got distracted and forgot all about it until three and a half hours after it went up.

I saw the boosters coming in backwards towards pt Loma from Oceanside. Nice shot!
Heard the boom and went out to backyard to see launch
