- Apparently, this is one of the world's hardest bass lines! I was not shocked to see that it was played by none other than Jaco Pastorius, one of the greatest bass guitarists to ever play. Let's break it down.

As someone who uses a fretless live, the most impressive part is how good his intonation on that dark ass stage 🤣
I love this song, thanks for covering it. heavy weather was one of the first albums I bought as a teenager in ‘77. someday I hope to play it. I’m working on green grass and high tides, which is challenging to pluck full speed but lots of fun fills
An amazing composer and line!!! Tone, technique, and timing.
This one, actually the whole album, really got me into Jazz when I was a teenager! I had just started to learn bass when I was introduced to Weather Report with Heavy Weather, and I was so blown away by it, especially Teen Town! Then I started practicing, I just wanted to play this! Now, looking back, it might not be the hardest bass line (I can get through it, but there are many bass lines that I still can't figure out after 25 years), but it's one of the most iconic and innovative for sure - a masterpiece!
I think you did a good job presenting this transcription. I've been meaning to learn this by ear, but it was going to take a long time, so I gave in to temptation and learned your transcription last night. Cheers.
Andrew, I appreciate the energy and passion you bring to your videos. You help this non-musician understand the art. Would you consider reviewing down Baby Blue by Badfinger?
Like classical music for bass players
It's not the hardest, but it's one of the most beautiful...i think that it's the point!
My understanding of Jaco Pastorius’ playing is that maybe his brain just works at 3x the speed and for him playing at that speed of Teen Town is equivalent to others playing at like 60 bpm. In fact I’d wager he always wondered “why they playing so slow?”
Classical thump is the hardest for me
why do you have that strap on the last fret
It's not a strap. It's designed to keep the unfretted strings from ringing for a cleaner, less muddy sound.
@@Legomanfred Thanks for the answer, can you use it on a fretted bass to get a less muddy sound, and if so what is it called if i want to buy one ?
@@angeri8565 most guys just buy a fuzzy hair scrunchy. Yes you can use it on a fretted bass, for the same reason. You can buy them in a music store, if you want as well. Good luck whatever you choose. 👍
tbh, toooo diff for me
Meh..teen town is really easy
🥲
You really think it’s easy? I get if someone wants to say “not the toughest”. But easy? That’s a bold statement. I want to see you play it now. Let’s see it! 😅😂
@@BassFreedom nah he’s probably trolling, gotcha 😄
@@BassFreedom i don't get what's difficult there, your average fusion bassline is tougher to play.
