The Man Who Transformed Metal Bass Playing Forever

- A pioneer of enhancing the bass guitar's presence in hard rock and metal music, let me take you through the life and bass style of one of the most legendary bassists to have ever lived, even though only for a short time...Cliff Burton.
Metallica's bass on the first three albums was all due to Cliff. He was a beast. His technical prowess, tone, playing style, and composition were light years ahead of anyone in the 80s.
I help aspiring bassists become accomplished players faster than other learning platforms, without the frustration of feeling stuck, by understanding the 'why' behind the music, ensuring guaranteed progress.

What’s your favorite Metallica song with Cliff? 👇
fight fire with fire, one of his best basslines of all time is in the main riff imo
Orion
According to the interwebs, to record “Orion”, Cliff Burton used the Aria Pro II SB-1000.
Cliff is one of my absolute favourite bassists and one reason why I now own my Rickenbacker 4003S that I bought back in the summer of 2020 as well as why I started using effects like drive/fuzz and was on my bass, for a dude as young as Cliff was he was an absolute fucking beast of a player and is definitely deserving of being one of the absolute GOATs of rock/metal bassists. Especially because not a whole lot of people at the time were even thinking about doing the kind of stuff he came up with and it's awesome, also to answer the question from the Orion clip Cliff had stopped using his Rickenbacker in about 1985 after experiencing some issues with some of the modifications he had done to it so for recording of Master of Puppets he was using an Aria Pro II Bass (which eventually became a posthumous signature model back in 2013 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Kill 'Em All). On a similarly related note I actually wrote a bass solo back in 2017 during my senior year of high school as part of a music exam at the time that was heavily inspired by Cliff where the main riff I had was heavily inspired by Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) and I even lifted part of his bass solo from The Four Horsemen (even going so far as to call the piece "Cliffhanger"), which got me one of the highest scores in the class and I don't even think my teacher even realized the Metallica influence. Great vid as always, man, RIP Cliff and thanks for inspiring so many of us over the years #CliffEmAll
Damn that Rickenbacker sounds awesome.
It's true, you gotta get a rickenbacker, that natural midscoop and ringing sustain are its stock-in-trade
Beautiful
Love this!
Cliff was amazing
cliff burton forever \m/
Sounds JUST like a Rickenbacker !
I wouldn't say he played like a guitarist at all. Cliff liked to play high.
I wonder what Metallica would sound like if he were still alive?
Cliff is cool but Jason is my favorite
And guess what.... literally anyone will say that, and cliff wasn't just "cool", he literally made metallica iconic, then they ever were
