It's always amazing to see someone portray African people in a good light most times we're seen as lesser beings and this visual album did the opposite. I think blue paint is a symbol for an ancestor. There is many old accounts that talk about someone skins being so black its blue and a lot of cultural rituals involve paint in some cultures in Africa. Also a play on (in the UK, I'm not sure if it's well known in other places) we call royalty "blue blooded". That's what I think anyway.

The moves she did at 5:15 is a dance made by an Ivorian artist called Dj Arafat, he passed away one year ago, it’s called ‘’C’est moi” (I think). All the dances moves you saw in the mv are from different countries in Africa( Ghana, Nigeria, Ivory Coast) and yes it’s Afrobeat. You can search MHD afro trap, he made a lot of songs with afrobeat, if you want to know more about it. The painton their bodies is a cultural thing in some african countries from what my friends told me.

It’s a cultural thing to paint their bodies in Africa.Africans have painted their bodies for thousands of years, and many societies continue to practice traditional body painting. Some African groups, however, have abandoned body painting altogether or discarded the traditional meanings of their body painting rituals and turned the practice into an activity done purely to attract tourists.

Even in a moment where we're just enjoying this multicultural vibe, y'all (commenters) have to bring division into it? Y'all know what they meant so cut it out and stop trying to make it messy. OBVIOUSLY, they know that it's a mixed collection of Black people in the video because they know that Beyonce is from the States and Shatta Wale is from Ghana. So it stands to reason that the rest of the artists in the video will be a mixture of different backgrounds. News Flash: WE ALL STILL BLACK. The word that was used literally translates to "Black person" so PLEASE GET OVER YOURSELVES AND LET US HAVE THIS. Anyway, I appreciate this review and I'm happy that you guys enjoyed the music and the video. And I think it's dope that you even recognize Afrobeat and know who Burna Boy is. Yes you are correct! It is Afro-Beat! It is spreading throughout the African Diaspora even more and getting even more popular in the North America and Europe. These places have large concentrations of African migrants from all the countries in Africa. Normally, you would encounter afro-beats if you are around them since they play it a lot at their parties and in their daily life.
I learnt more about afro-beats from the African students at my university in Toronto. A lot of them have clubs and associations based on their home countries that host tons of events. They also love spreading their culture in general to basically anyone who comes to their door. We also have a multi-cultural week where they go all out and basically win everything (Fashion Show, Food, Talent Contest {they out perform everyone}, etc.) The African and Caribbean students tend to hang out a lot and it is really fun since they share their culture with each other. I tried to learn how to dance from the African students and failed. I can hit the Gwara Gwara though since it's the easiest! I am quite proud of myself! I probably can hit the Zubit to if they show me as well, but I am not in Canada right now.
Your afro-beat journey will be amazing and is most definitely something worth getting into. And if you can, learn about it from an African. It is way more fun and insightful that way! I am really happy Beyonce brought more awareness to these talented artists, and showcased the beauty and diversity of Africa. Normally, all we see is poverty and slavery, and I am tired. I was gagging the entire time watching Black is King. I was like yes sis!

African Americans and other black people in the African diaspora globally have our links to West Africa predominantly. I think her Black is King does a great job of incorporating Afrobeats of Africa into American pop music and connects us. I think persons in the Caribbean and those in Latin American can hear the familiar beats that are in all our music because we have retention of certain styles still today. So this is iconic also this is my favourite song from her visual album. He easily also sounds like singers and djs from Jamaica and the afrobeat sounds like our traditional music in some parts.

This album is a tribute to Black people and the Black experience not just African-American Black people, there are many different kinds of Black people in the world, but Beyonce shows through this stunning visual album that, Black is varied, Black is talented, Black is beautiful, Black is excellent and Black is ultimately king.

The genre is a form of afrobeat, it is often fast paced and with various vigorous dance styles. You should react to more afrobeat songs and African artists like burna boy, davido, tiwa savage, etc.

You will have to watch black is king to understand the video. The blue guy is supposed to be simbas spirit guide and conscience. There is a lot of african folklore and traditional religion in Black is King, but its the story of young simba finding himself. A message to black peoples all across the world, to find the power and beauty within themselves
