Everybody likes the idea of owning a crow, a raven, a raccoon, etc. but I doubt anybody has the time or patience to actually care for one of these animals. Keep up the good work, if you can keep just one of these animals from idiots you've done a good job.

Do not habituate wildlife to meet your own needs, you do them no favors. And if you truly care about that species, you'll obey state laws prohibiting feeding and habituating raccoons, *for the animal's best interests.*

You’re making people fascinated and educated with ravens while also not romanticizing the idea of people having them as pets, “just because you think it’s cute”. Keeping birds like Sam out of unqualified hands. You can tell from the passion that you truly care for the wellbeing of these animals.
"No bird should live in a cage" Thank you! The cage is for food and water, but otherwise, my bird freeroams. It's like clipping their wings, why get a bird if it's just to limit them to a small space?
Seriously. We need more people putting this message out. It should be illegal to keep a bird in a tiny cage, but that's exactly what people picture when they think of getting a pet bird. It's not a fucking ornament, it's a living animal that has adapted to having more freedom of movement than almost any other animal. If you think keeping a dog in a kennel for its whole life is cruel, keeping a bird in a cage is 10x worse.
@@teheehe be a responsible owner and encourage that business in the cage. If it's not a prison, my birds have always seen their cage as "my business" spot. And, sometimes, ya just gotta tough it up, grab the cloth and water, and be thankful you don't have a raven. (YET)
Austin Felton I didn't know you can encourage a bird to do that. I don't own one but I have a friend that has two parrots and they don't seem trainable. I have no idea how'd you go about that.
@@teheehe my Senegal is easy. She has a perch spot she prefers, so keep an eye, there. Largely, she does her business as she eats. Birds are VERY trainable, if they're smart enough. Largely, though, it's noting the bird's patterns, ND adapting around that. Some are free to disagree, I just personally feel like as a bird owner, one is somewhat obligated to give the animal freedom of motion, especially if you're gone for more than 8 hours a day.

I had a pet crow in the early 90s and his name was Sam too! We found him with a broken wing as a baby when he fell out of the nest. Best pet ever. So smart.
I did some research. I wanted one. I came to the conclusion I am happy being buddys with the ones down by the lake. I let them "steal" my bait fish I let sit on the bank. They come hangout whenever they want to. Then they go about their lives. Best "pet/friends" ever.
Sam is a African Hybrid White Neck/ Pied Crow- All birds that are indigenous to the USA and Canada are protected under the Migratory Bird Act you can not keep them or rehabilitate them unless you have a licence to work with wild life. If you see anyone on UA-cam with a crow or common raven that the found and claim they '' rescued '' the bird they are breaking the law and putting any video of the wild bird or animal is exploitation and illegal. They will be selling that they saved the bird, without them the bird would die. Some animals die to feed other animals, fly's need to eat too, if you see anything like this on UA-cam know these people are supper creepy
This guy's passion is seriously inspiring. I've always loved birds, but I know I could never take care of a bird like Sam, and the fact that he's spreading awareness of the consequences of simply just getting a live animal like a toy is just so awesome.

I've grown up having many birds and everything you've said is so right I wish everyone could understand that before jumping in and buying a large bird species as their first bird. At the moment I'm only living with my pigeon and despite being small, they 100% think they are your equal and will not hesitate to attack you when they want to. She thinks I'm her mate and loves me, but if she wants to punch or bite me, she will. They don't care if you use a stern voice with them either. Birds are fiesty.

I live on the beach and I've got a wild crow friend. He rearranges the outdoor tchotchkes and brings me things. He'll sit outside and caw, waiting for me to come out to say hello to him, he answers a couple times then flies away. I often see him out the window, hopping around with corncobs, chicken bones, glass beads, etc., moving them from flower pot to flower pot, and he washes them in the birdbath too. He and his buds also destroy the trash and make a mess.
I'll try to get the camera out there next time I see him. I saw a crow out there this morning, but it wasn't him. looked like he had a dorito or something orange, playing with it... but when I went to the window he flew away. We have birdfeeders out there, and get a lot of birds.

I live on the beach and I've got a wild crow friend. He rearranges the outdoor tchotchkes and brings me things. He'll sit outside and caw, waiting for me to come out to say hello to him, he answers a couple times then flies away. I often see him out the window, hopping around with corncobs, chicken bones, glass beads, etc., moving them from flower pot to flower pot, and he washes them in the birdbath too. He and his buds also destroy the trash and make a mess.

I'll try to get the camera out there next time I see him. I saw a crow out there this morning, but it wasn't him. looked like he had a dorito or something orange, playing with it... but when I went to the window he flew away. We have birdfeeders out there, and get a lot of birds.
