In the mid 80’s, I remember seeing a well-restored Navy version when we landed at Clearlake (N. California). Gorgeous. Seeing this model and HEARING the full-fidelity, throaty engine SOUND in MSFS brings back vivid memories.
I'm so in love with this bird. 😍
I begged them to make the "Navy" livery. It is based on a real aircraft owned by Pemberton & Sons, not ironically based in Washington State. I would not be surprised if their bird has actually been to Orcas.

Another great review! This has become one of my favorite flight sim channels on UA-cam!! As you were reaching around in the dark looking for your interior light switches, I kept shouting, “use your flashlight!“ I tend to forget that that feature exists until I need it. I mapped it to my “F” key very early on, and it does come in handy in times like that! Something else you may consider for future reviews, unless you’re on a specific timetable… if you’re going to add reviews on the textures, you may consider reviewing any additional default liveries that come with the product. Some may be better than others. Just a thought to consider. 😉

Well AvAngel, you gone and done it again, I'm hooked on another classic aircraft again! I'm headed over to "BigRadilals" to drop my $27.00 and pickup my copy of this outstanding plane to my stable.
I didn't find anything detrimental to my taste, or unsightly to my ears. I have to say those radial engines are the most realistic yet!

I definitely think the boat hull style playing nicer with physics theory has a ton of truth to it, as I experienced the same thing when I did a test flight in the FrenchVFR Catalina. It's smooth as silk on the water as well. Maybe one day they'll fix water physics across the board so I can enjoy my straight floats!

Great review. Shows almost all model features, hatches and more. Nighttime instrumentation lighting. Landing on the water from different angles. Sounds.

The exterior model is excellent quality. In the interior most of the textures are just as good. Except the dashboard is a little disappointing. Not very expressive texture, everything is flat. Almost no reflection on the dashboards. The "carenado" is doing better so far.
But in general, quite a decent product. There's just a little bit of tweaking left to do.
Now we are talking, one of my favourite sea planes of all times.
External textures to me are a bit on the Substance Painter side. Not there is anything wrong with that, but I feel it lacks a bit of manual painting of areas were more wear and tear would appear.
I'd been flying the freeware OzX Goose port that was being worked on before the dev joined Big Radials. It had it's issues (being unfinished) but was a fun plane to fly. Not sure if I'll get this since I've been having trouble getting enough sim time lately to make additional purchases worth it.
Aaaah! I don't have enough time to fly all the planes I already have, I just bought the Beechcraft Model 18 after watching your video on it, and now I want this one.
This one is gorgeous and a great flier... if you like the 18 this is similar, but floats :D

I can practically smell that old vintage oily goodness.
There is currently a serious issue with this bird which Big Radials are aware of, and say will be fixed soon. I usually fly with a friend, and we both bought this plane yesterday. When we tried to fly together we discovered that while our own aircraft looked gorgeous, the other looked like something made from cereal boxes by a childrens' tv presenter. It rather took the shine off the evening. So if you plan to fly with other people, you may want to hold off until the fix arrives. If you only plan to fly alone, then no problem, it is a nice aircraft.
Just forgot to give the manual fuel pump a couple of cranks, otherwise she would have started. Nice review thanks.
I love and watch ALL your videos Avangel eyes, but I so wish you would add just a pinch of wind. Maybe 5-7 MPH. (I live in Idaho so miles per hour...lol). The water looks Soooo much better with texture, and you do most of your flying around the water, or even IN the water in this case! Also... jacks up the skill level just a tad...😉
Cutter's Goose! (Yes, I grew up watching Tales Of The Gold Monkey) I think this might just be my favourite plane in the sim (At least right now) I had a few teething troubles initially (pilot error) managing my fuel consumption and keeping the engines from smoking, but once I settled into the rhythm I found so much joy in taking to the sky. My only complaint is there is no model of Jack The Mutt for the co-pilot seat. Nobody rocks an eye-patch like Jack! Finally, one question though, am I being dumb or is there no fuel gauge? If so, where the heck is it?

It flies very nicely. The only problem I have with it is that, when compared to real Gooses (Geese?), it seems to sit quite low in the water, especially at the tail end.
I believe at the start, you were cranking the left engine instead of the right 😂,
I still need to buy the game, but I am so very glad that they have the Grumman Goose in the game!!!
I’m pretty sure the Big Radials developers also did the freeware goose redux. Both are beautifully done and I love how there is now both an early and late model goose in fs2020.
They did originally, they ported the goose redux from fsx and p3d, then this original build.
Had same issue as you on startup. Read the procedure. You gotta prime a cold engine. And you prime it by pumping the throttle levers from min to max repeatedly about 4 times and then it starts after a few seconds of holding starter in :)
That would explain it :D I read through it but missed that little bit :D
@@AvAngel Yeah I missed it too on first read through. Kept twiddling with wobble pump, turning switches and valves on and off and in the end had to swallow my pride and reread the manual :D
I love the Goose since FSX, now only if I could afford to get a PC that can run FS2020 properly... I would get this bird for flying FSEconomy with :P

Hm, I'm tempted but its by the same dev that made the original not so great kitfox... which was bad... we shall see.

You forgot to use the manual pump, that may be why the engines were not starting.
Ooh did you wobble the pump?
Before starting the engines, you must operate the fuel pump a few times to build up fuel pressure!

Really a beauty. Can you tell me if there is enough differences from the freeware version to justify a buy ? I have flown the freeware and it was great. There are so many great planes to buy.

I like the Big Radials Goose better than the one that came with the 40th anniversary update. The BR Goose has the gyropilot.

Pretty good job but you should reduce prop RPM after takeoff.
AvAngel do you have "reflections" set to ultra in your graphics settings? If it is not, then perhaps that's why there are no reflections of devices in the night light.
I do yes, there were some reflections, youtube compression destroys fine detail sometimes if its super dark, its why i avoid night mostly.

You briefly mentioned the freeware version by the same developer before moving on to talk about the FSX port version. How well does the freeware version stack up to this new payware?
No comparison, the Freeware was the updated fsx stock one in fsx, the ozx goose, they ported that to msfs, its... good but dated as a model, this is lifetimes better.
@@AvAngel Ah, I misunderstood, I thought you meant there were two different freeware Goose's.
Why does no one point out the bad and low res textures the way they do for other planes. Or the fact that the GPS and radios do not work, that the plane has a load of bugs? Did I mention the rain effects that appear on the screen of the GPS? The looping of the high frequency sounds during climb and cruise? I just want to see fair reviews. If BlackBox sims had made this plane, it would be destroyed.
The radio and GPS work fine? They do on mine? The textures aren't insanely crisp but they're far from bad, its got a lot of character. Didn't notice the sound loop but honestly, all sim sounds are loops so there is that... As for the rain effects, wasn't raining... so I didn't see that.
Bugs get fixed, its not worth trashing a plane for.
I paid for this product out of my own pocket, so its about as fair as one can get.

Is it possible to do flight simulation without spending an arm and leg on hardware? What's the minimum setup to be successful?
Yeah it is, you can get something like a logitech hotas, or a gamepad, but I'd recommend at minimum a joystick with a twist grip for rudder and you can have a pretty enjoyable experience.
I'd started on a 2014-vintage i7 CPU, 16GB, and a 1650 Super GPU, and a $30 Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and it was quite enjoyable at 1080p resolutions
Looked great. Spent my $30 on it....crashes MSFS to desktop every time I move the hat switch right to check settings for takeoff. No other aircraft I have has the same problem. So, I have no critique on the product since I can't fly it. Out $30 unless I can find a fix.
