Tom, your presentation here takes me back to the 40's and 50's, (yes, I'm an old geezer), fishing with my Grandfather. We always came home with a bucket of bullheads and catfish and Grandma would make sure I was invited over for dinner when they were prepared, usually the next day 'cause we got home late. Grandma fixed them as you did, however it was lard back then, rendered pork fat. lol! ,Those little crunchies melted in my mouth. No one, and in mean NO ONE cooked like Grandma. Incidently, Grandpa didn't have a tooth in his mouth so those fish with boiled spuds and either carrots or green beans were his delight. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some old memories.
When I was young first married that was one of my favorite fish my family eat. And you cook them the same way I did. Flour and corn meal, I used just salt and pepper all in the bag to mix and into the fry pan. Thanks for the memories. Tight Line
It toke me awhile until I located a honey hole. We do this body of water a huge favor since I discovered the population of bullhead is through the roof. Within half an hour me and my brother can harvest 20 eater size. Keep the little ones for bait. Pike like bullhead too
Carp bite is back on! Lakes up here have dropped 3 to 4 feet due to no rain. I figured the fish would drop back closer to the drop off. Had to wade out to cast to reach them. And that was the ticket.
Newish sub, thanks for the content. This video reminded me of the bullheads of my youth, from small lakes about 6000 ft elev. in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Good eating.
Good video Tom! You’re making me hungry. I like to use Tony Chachere’s creole. I imagine it’s not too different. As of yesterday, still no carp biting. I’m going to get out in between storm systems today.
Ive been looking forward to this video since you did the last one. I've been looking to get into a mess of small catfish. The old fisherman has a video where he shows how to clean small cat fish, that makes it look a little easier than how my dad showed me . Thanks for sharing !
Not sure if we have bull-heads out here , I have only caught channel cats. They look like fun to catch, like blue gill lots of actions. Good video and enjoy the cooking part also. Thanks. Off topic but caught my biggest carp of the year last week 13 lbs.
I have the best success fishing for bullhead when i catch a small prussian carp and i cut off its tail and put it on a hook,i catch some huge bullheads with that
I just caught my first bullhead tonite. Almost identicle to your first catch. Do you just worm the hook and toss? Just let it sit on the bottom without a bobber?
Hi Tom, Have you tried fishing for bullheads with leeches? It is a good bait for bullheads here in Serbia. And also you can catch the bigger ones with a peace of small fish. By the way, excellent videos! Make more with bullheads! 😂💪
I've literally caught thousands of bullheads..not a difficult fish to catch. They'll eat anything..i had luck with bacon. Funny thing..I've had catfish for dinner many times but never bullhead..im guessing they're pretty close. Must use caution when unhooking..They'll get you. I learned that one the hard way..long live bullheads.
hi tom what state or prov you in? and have you ever tried this place at night as they are more active? i have this cat hole i usually go to at night in the summer and used to catch big yellow bulls im talkin around 10-12" and in the past few years i caught nothing till this summer but they are more like your catch size or the biggest fish you got there in fact i'm heading out tonight or possibly tomorrow night and i think because it gives the excuse to use my diy lighted floaters lol ppl keep asking me where i got them from and love hearing "i made it myself", i got a fast old school way to clean em like yours requiring a dorsal cut then a pull of the head back while holding the broken vertebrate but i much prefer them fillet no matter the size its even easier and cooks better in the shallow or deep frying oil for my taste just cooks thoroughly through
Maybe you'll get a better response next time if you type a coherent paragraph instead of one big long rambling sentence. But, maybe my own expectations are unrealistic too.
People up here in Minnesota are so snobby with what they keep. Never eat any bass. Never eat pike. Never eat bullhead. Never eat Karp or Buffalo. Never eat bowfin, call em dogfish. If it ain't trout, panfish, or walleye. Folks generally ain't interested. Could probably get em to eat a fresh channel or flathead. But they wouldn't be happy about it.
Yep. I get alot of looks when I tell people I eat bullhead. There used to be some bullhead feeds here in the southern part of Minnesota, but those are mostly all parts of history now. Tasty fish.
I now use pliers. First time i cought one, it spiked me in thumb. Hurt like MF😬 Pliers on mouth, and you done. Second, they got very slipery body, so pliers help with that too.

Kenny, I enjoyed that story very much. Thank you for sharing it.
Probably one of my favorite fish to catch, clean and eat.

Great Flathead bait too. They are some feisty little fish
my favriot fish to eat that size is so tender i live up state ny by the st lawerence river and 5 more weeks illbe after them nice vid
I really like bullheads for eating! Wish I could find a nice honey hole like that to catch a quick mess of them!
Thanks for another great video Tom!
They can be pretty tasty, thanks Art.
try a local residential pond, usually those little retention ponds are full of them
@@S1am3s3F1sh1ng good tip. Might even be big ones since they probably dominate the little pond.

I always watch these fishing catch and cooks, knowing damn well I'm allergic to fish, but i do love your channel. Keep the videos coming.
Dang, sorry to hear that. Glad you enjoy the videos, thanks!
Nice footage tom! Those bull heads looked scrumptious.
They were pretty good!

Good luck, pop up thunderstorms have been my biggest fishing nemesis as of late.
Good video ❤ lots of people would call trash fish but it's not

I just clean them like a small channel cat, works good for me.
I still fillet even that small
Nice job what do those bull heads taste like I have never tried them
Catfish.
Make sure to use peanut oil
Killer video tom!
Nice! The only thing I don't care for about bullheads, is the cleaning. Pulling that skin off gets tedious but, worth it.
A good pair of skinning pliers helps make it go pretty quick.

Nice, congrats!
We got bullheads in the ponds and lakes here in New England (here we call them horned pouts). My dad caught one once, about 8 inches long
I have the best success fishing for bullhead when i catch a small prussian carp and i cut off its tail and put it on a hook,i catch some huge bullheads with that
NICE! HAVE YOU EVER SMOKED CATFISH WITH SKIN ON? THEN PEEL SKIN OFF AND PULL MEAT OFF BONE THEN SEASON. THANKS FOR YOUR WORK/ VIDEOS.
That is something I haven't tried. Thanks Wesley.
Thanks
Very nice catch my friend love the vids buddy and all the tips 👍 😊
Wowww❤
Like and miss them. Hopefully 🤞 soon I can get into some.
They are just like a catfish with their spines
Try Lard next time. You won't go back to oil. Also we use bullhead as bait for flathead.
yes
Cooking part at the end of the video looked REALLY GOOD! I'm hungry for some Catfish now! Did you shuck those Bullheads? Just curious.🙂👍
I just clean them like a catfish.
I just caught my first bullhead tonite. Almost identicle to your first catch. Do you just worm the hook and toss? Just let it sit on the bottom without a bobber?
I got a massive bullhead today
Good video Tom. You Iowans are the master bullhead fisherman! Do you do the nail through the head method to clean them?
Never heard of that. I just use a knife and skinning pliers, takes about 30 seconds per fish.
Hi Tom,

Glad you enjoyed the videos, share it with friends if you like.
Sometime your need to show us how you cleaned and cut the fish. I can imagine but would like to know for sure.
Maybe I'll do that sometime.

Uset to use a wormball for them.
Hot dogs are the best for bull heads I've caught 4 pound bull heads on em
If you have trouble with bullheads swallowing the hook, tie on a jig and bait it. For some reason they don't try to swallow the jig.
It's not really a problem if they do swallow the hook anyway
Have u try 🧀 for bullheads
I haven't, but I'm sure it would work. Thanks.
@@OutsidewithTom no problem
Stealing worms from fish?.. 😂
Like stealing candy from kids💀

I'm in Iowa.
ok, figured maybe after my long comment you would have more than just that to add and interact a bit more but ok lol thx @@OutsidewithTom
Sorry I didn't live up to your expectations.
yeah too bad @@OutsidewithTom

The best for catfishing is cut hotdogs
Size 4/0 is a hog ass hook for bullheads, but can't argue with results.
It's size 4, not 4/0.
@@OutsidewithTom Oh lmao that makes more sense 😂
Where's your dirt for the worms
So do they school?

All of them are tasty too. Sucks because people will kill some of them just because want something better. Catfish in particular is amazing

Nope, no limit in Iowa.
