Paul Hardcastle reminds me of a young Robert Powell (actor who played the title role in 1970s TV blockbuster 'Jesus of Nazareth' and married blonde 'TOTPs' 'Pans People' dancer Babs).
I was listening to this on my MP3 this afternoon and it still sounds fresh and vibrant today as it did then it's stood the test of time .here's one thing you may not know about this track is actor Geoffrey bayldon from fort boyard did the spoken lyrics in the middle.
Thanks, been looking for Paul Hardcastle's live TOTPs performance of The Wizard, bless him he looks so young and cute! Not easy for a keyboard artist to turn in a decent performance, but he pulled it off fine. Very talented guy and a great TOTPs theme.
Gavin Martin - I don't doubt it. I meant '...live TOTPs performance', as opposed to the pre-recorded, official pop video for The Wizard. Doing a studio performance is always a challenge for an artist like Paul Hardcastle or Norman Cook, because obviously they don't sing so it's hard to keep it entertaining for viewers. I think he did a great job here.
Gavin - you're mistaken. I don't think Paul Hardcastle was playing live. I've never thought Paul Hardcastle was playing live. And as I already explained to you, when I said '...live TOTPs performance' in my original post, I meant 'live' in the sense he was in actually present and performing in the TV studios, as opposed to the pre-recorded official video for The Wizard. A performance is still a performance, even if the artist is miming/not actually playing their instruments. Hope that's cleared up your confusion!
@@glamdolly30 He mentions it on "Top Of The Pops: The Story Of 1986" which is obviously when Micheal Hurll (for reasons only known to him) changed the iconic logo to well, s>
There are loads of versions of '19' uploaded to UA-cam, just put it in the search bar. Great track, and as I recall was Number One for about ten years! 🤣🤣🤣
His dexterity in this is amazing, he has four keyboards to play and has to alternate between them and know what is going on. This is also quite a feat of songwriting as the song has so many different sections.
No - the royalties to sample Michael Jackson/Vincent Price would be astronomical! It was voiced by a great British actor called Geoffrey Bayldon, famous for a hit TV series called 'Catweazel', among many others.
No, Paul wrote it for the show and it was released as a single. Paul wrote a lot of themes for television including the theme for a former travel show called Holiday, whose theme is called “ The Voyager”.
I bet this performance was a close second to his wedding day.
19, rainforest, awesome songs. Mega talented guy, oh yeah and "dont wast my time " another one
Regardless of if he was performing live or not, he was so smiley
@Kayleigh Natasha: Yeah, he looks like he is having fun.
Synthesiser Patel there, completely taking over the show.
They are so bloody expensive...
RIP Steve Wright
The rebirth of top of the pops
Paul ist the best
Like the way they mixed the video with the performance in the TOTP studio.
Best 80s Synth Groove!!

MP3 old fashioned man, 🤣👈🏻
I wondered whose voice that was, I thought it sounded familiar. Geoffrey Bayldon was a fantastic actor.

I know! I never suggested otherwise, most artists mimed on TOTPs. What is your point?

I know. This is without doubt the most inane, unenlightening and pointless conversation I've ever had with another UA-cam member! Have a nice day!
Harold Faltermeyer's performance of Axel F will forever be the reference point for dour performances of its type.
Legend.
Paul hardcastle should do a Eurovision entry for the UK
Hardcastle seems to be enjoying himself and Wrighty looks so slim and young
U cud say this is when the late 80s officially started on TOTP
Also LOVE This Version !!!
radio 1 djs refused to play this record until they were told not to turn up to do top of the pops
No the radio 1 lot weren't happy he was on TOTP. Radio 1 refused to play it until Michael Hurll stepped in.
What was Radio One's problem with Paul Hardcastle/the new 'TOTPs' theme?
@@glamdolly30 Not sure. This was a Paul Hardcastle story.
@@Hertfordshire247 No worries, I'll just have to Google it!

The video appears in the monitor screen behind Hardcastle.
Thanks for clearing that up, the bird in bandages made me think it was an episode of 'Casualty'.
Superb! I haven't heard this for yeaaaaarrrrrsssss. 👍🏻🎉
He looks like he’s having a lot of fun on the stage
Well, he certainly doesn't look grumpy
Benny Harvey R.I.P.
I've never seen people get so hyped for a theme tune before. To be fair, it is a banger, and the dude has like 6 synths
TOTP-ception! :P
Do you have top of the pops 19?

@@glamdolly30 Finally they uploaded that music video version.
6 synths and 16 tellies, i didn't know a man needed that many!
Yeah, those damn amateurs totally got that wrong: Should‘ve been exactly the other way ‘round, of course. 😎
Couldn't be more 80's if it tried!
I like the Hellraiser effects at the start
I know - you could fit six men in that classic oversized '80s, stonewashed denim jacket!

Many many buttons to press
Lovely lightness of touch.
He’s not really playing those synths. He is miming
@@gamingwithcallum6087 No, you’re right. So we can praise his knowledge of the syncopation of music instead.
DAAAAAAIIMMMNN he looks so young here. Scarily young.
Another one man band after Howard and Kershaw. The Wizzard was definetly made for Top of the Pops
Now then ladies & gentlemen next here on Top of the Pops is... Top of the Pops.
very good lol
steve wright has had his day
He certainly has - he's dead.
He reminds me of Hackerman for some reason. The way he plays his music feels like he's hacking time.
I wonder if the laughter comes from Michael Jackson's Thriller. Vincent Price?
Yes it very likely does. Or they got him in to do the same again.
It’s another actor from something called “ Catweazel”.
No - the royalties to sample Michael Jackson/Vincent Price would be astronomical! It was voiced by a great British actor called Geoffrey Bayldon, famous for a hit TV series called 'Catweazel', among many others.
Ah..Totp stole this for there show

Beyond shit.
