George Jones is "country music". People ask me if I like country and I respond... "i like George Jones" that is country music. I lost my father 3 years ago this summer. He turned me on to George 25 years ago. "This ones for you Dad" Jeff
I'm not even a country fan, yet I think George Jones is one of the best singers in the world. He's in a class of his own. I like to think of him as a "country-soul" singer because his music moves the soul. My only regret is that I went to see him in concert many years ago during his "no-show" period when he was missing a lot of gigs. Seeing old videos like this one on youtube is the next best thing.
He is the king of country and a true gentleman too,i was too young to go with my parents when they used to see him and they met him a few times too, when my dad died i wrote to George and he sent me a personally signed photo,i thought that was such a lovely gesture from him and now i just need him to come back to england so i can see him live.
I m from canada and have been to 7 george jones concerts, and, would go again even though his age is catching up with him.....best country singer of all time (no offence to hank) anyone who doesn t like jones ain t a real country fan, period!
I saw George when I was younger, at Indian Ranch in MA, and I didn't appreciate it at the time. It was right around this time, when he started to get visibly old, and sound just a liiiitle different. I will always remember it tho. I am sad that in this vid he doesn't finish with "taking nothing but our baby and my heart," in the high register. My favorite line of the song, hands down, especially the way he sings it in the recording. I
His velvet voice rips right into your heart and soul. One of the greatest natural vocalists and by far the greatest country singer of ALL TIME ! I was honoured to finally see George Jones "live" in concert in Toronto back on April 8th 2008. It was a magical evening, and his only show. A sellout of course. He was 76 years young and he sang just as well as he ever had !
The best, but it wasn't his only show. I saw him and another "Best", Conway Twitty at Massey Hall in Toronto on October 22, 1989. Absolutely magic. In my opinion, his best ever song was "Choices". Brilliant. And the best part was that he showed up. We all wondered if he would and he didn't disappoint.
met the top man george jones in the apollo theatre glasgow scotland when i was a kid 1972 im 43 now loved him melba montgomery backed him that night my dad passed away 5 yrs ago 2 nite looking back at wonderful memories of a nashville superstar and of course my auld man played the grand tour at his funeral im a killers fan also love the las vegas super band
I saw george for the first time in 63 or 64 at the chestnut inn in kansas city. I was fresh out of high school. He came over and sat at out table and had a beer. I have seen him several times since. He is the greatest there ever was!
My husband, daughter and I got the privilege of seeing George at the Big Fresno Fair and what a TREAT it was!! He is AMAZING! It began to rain and he still sang! George Jones is a class act!
I have this entire concert on DVD. I've watched literally 100s of times. The best part in the DVD is Ron the Long haired fella messes up Bartenders Blues and the poor guy never recovers. Its good to see this being put out there.
I was at this concert..Knoxville Tennessee..where I got to meet the possum and got a few autographs and his guiter pix.and he signed Tammys book she wrote.lol..he didn't want to(lol) and agin I met him 3 other times when he played in Pigeon Forge Tenn
I have had the pleasure of seeing him several times listend to him growing up and he performs at Renfro Valley a couple times a year. Has not slowed downed much. The last time did a tribute to the troops that was awesome. He is jst a big old country guy who did what he wanted and when he wanted. Truthfully think he learned his lessons.
Heard him twice-At Old Gilley's Club in Pasadena Texas in the 1980s an at Fort Bend County Fair in Rosenberg Texas around 2000 I have all his records on vinyl just about
He does use a prompter at his feet. The hard livin' years have taken a toll and he can't remember the words sometimes. Even hi biggest hits like this one and He Stopped Lovin Her Today
