Best decade for music. Being born in 1981, I was just a bit too young to appreciate these songs when they were originally released. Now, many years later, I realize how awesome a decade it was for music. No better example than this song!!
My mother was a teen in the 80s so I can feel a lot of nostalgia from this era. I may have been born in 2004 but I'm glad I could recognize these older songs thanks to my parents. My favorite decade of music though is the 60s. But new wave 80s is like nothing produced before or since, so unique, there's nothing like it!
Why the heck did so many people dislike this song?! This is a classic people! You can't find songs like these anymore, but that's what makes them special!
@KNIGHT clearly you don't have good taste in music then. Also, if you don't have anything positive or nice to say, don't say it. Hasn't anyone taught you that?
The top 40 has catered almost exclusively this last decade to ugly, overweight, "blue-eyed soul" singers from the UK that make extremely downbeat and depressing music. The examples are endless. Adele, Sam Smith, Lewis Capaldi, James Arthur, Ed Sheeran, James Bay, Sia & Tones and I (Aussie, but still)... A very annoying trend that I hope ends soon, prozac has to be loving it.
While I didn't take an interest in this song until last year, I can say that I'm loving this song, even if I didn't grow up with this song. This is a fun and beautiful song that encapsulates the 80's. And, dare I say... the song has an adorable tone to it! What can I say? The synths and Irene Cara's vocals give it a cute charm!
This song makes me tear up because it reminds me of the young, innocent, HEALTHY youngster I was.. I remember watching this movie for the first time, and the scene with this song made me feel like anything was possible... sadly, the youngsters today wouldn't be able to appreciate it the same way because they are bombarded with fake filters, auto tune, rental homes & planes for photo ops, etc... they can't possibly watch a beautiful woman dancing in water to an amazing song and find it motivating.... God bless you Irene... you gave me memories I will cherish forever ♥️
This is and example of what should be given an Oscar for Best Original Song... As a child of the 80;s, I will never tire of listening to this song, It still resonates it;s awesomeness today as it did the first time I heard it at 13 years old. I can still remember exactly where I was that first weekend of April 1983 when it came on the radio

To hear of your passing was a shock. Thanks for all the great music, Ms. Cara. Wore out 3 45s of this classic at the time, then eventually got the whole album.
I LOVE this song. Always have, always will. God bless Irene Cara for giving us this incredible and timeless song. She may be gone from this world, but her spirit and memory will always be with us in our hearts.
“What a Feeling” (1983) was the signature song to the motion picture “Flashdance” (1983), one of the first productions not fitting into the “musical” category that revolved around music. Irene Cara and Keith Forsey penned the lyrics, and Giorgio Moroder* composed the music. The word “Flashdance” doesn’t appear in the text, but the tune still relates to the movie, as it’s specifically about dancing. Irene Cara was an accomplished dancer herself, who not only interpreted this, but also starred in “Flashdance” as an aspiring dancer. Said Cara : “‘What a Feeling’ was a METAPHOR about a dancer, how she’s in control of her body when she dances and how she can be in control of her life.” The film was released on April 15, 1983, and on May 28, “What a Feeling” reached the #1 spot in the US. Irene Cara won the 1983 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Furthermore, she and her partners were granted the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1984. The dance scenes were performed by body double Marine Jahan, a gifted French actress and dancer. It was a well kept secret that actress Jennifer Beals did not dance in the moving picture. Dear Irene Cara, is there anything you CANNOT do⁉️ 💙🎶💚 * Giorgio Moroder wrote this with Irene Cara in mind to sing because he loved what she did with the theme to “Fame” (1980).

[Verse 1]
First when there's nothing
But a slow glowing dream
That your fear seems to hide
Deep inside your mind
All alone
I have cried
Silent tears full of pride
In a world made of steel
Made of stone
Well, I hear the music
Close my eyes
Feel the rhythm
Wrap around
Take a hold of my heart
[Chorus]
What a feeling
Being's believing
I can have it all
Now I'm dancing for my life
Take your passion
And make it happen
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
[Verse 2]
Now I hear the music
Close my eyes
I am rhythm
In a flash
It takes hold of my heart
[Chorus]
What a feeling
Being's believing
I can have it all
Now I'm dancing for my life
Take your passion
And make it happen
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
What a feeling
What a feeling
(I am music now)
Being's believing
(I am rhythm now)
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
What a feeling
(I can really have it all)
What a feeling
(Pictures come alive when I call)
I can have it all
(I can really have it all)
Have it all
(Pictures come alive when I call)
(Call, call, call, call, what a feeling)
I can have it all

(Take your passion)
And make it happen (make it happen)
