I would go with cycloidal gears, planetary gearboxes have lots of backlash when printed and I'm not sure how long a flex spline would hold up from a harmonic gearbox.
Yes, I considered cycloidal gears before but didn't pick them because of their complexity. Printability is also an essential factor. On the other hand, I am also curious about the lifetime of the flex spline. So, I'll build one first to test the accuracy and its lifetime.
Yes, it is a safer way to do it. Involving too many non-tested designs into the system is not a wise choice. So, I plan to have tests for the strain wave gearbox before implementing it into the system.
