Because swampers are one of the most common used real scale good functioning tire, At least up here in washington. Great self cleaning tire. + the sizes you can purchase......
I have the 2.9" version of these on my SCX6 Jeep JLU with dual stage foams. I was pleasantly surprised how well they do on the sandstone up here along the riverbank. Completely blew away the stock Axial KM3 tires.
My 4.75" inserts were designed around the Proline TSL SX XL, though mine are Predator compound (Norwegian climate and all that). The set of inserts you have should fit perfectly and do well in the G8 version as well. :)
The swampers is probably most requested because it's one of the most best performing (and popular) tires in the 1:1 world. I have two 1:1 crawlers and they're the best performing I've found so far for the terrain in my state. I found when I first started messing with the RC version of the proline swampers, I couldn't get side hill performance at all. A few buddies recommended the proline dual stages. I didn't get them for a long time since I was running anti-foams from 3 brothers. Then I went to other 3d printed inserts that were made for the swampers. Still not very good. Finally got some proline dual stages and it was night and day for side hill. Not sure why but they work 😂
Thanks for the review, after our emails I considered buyin a set and shipping them the long way to TN through you so we could get this review. Now there is no need! Good to see how these stack up and as always, love the content!
so.. when countering steering and reverse to self right... uh. love it. This is the same tire i got for the utb18.. er 12 or some other number. Have people come to test their 24th scale tires on your course?
Thank you! I bought this tire because I needed sand and rock tire, it does better than my hyrax for that, but I need to see how they do at crawler canyon!
This tire in 1/24 by Injora is an absolute beast. In door and out here in AZ. Finally pulled the trigger on these today and I don’t doubt they’ll perform any different. I think a “wider” offset would have helped your side hill. Even if it was 2mm.
You can't "unround" that shoulder. Pretty much every tire with that kind of profile does the same thing. Tires that excel on the side hill either have a very squared shoulder, or have tread blocks that extend down onto the sidewall (not just sidelugs) and seem to maintain stability where other tires fall away.
@@CrawlerCanyon I see exactly what you’re talking about. I will keep an eye out for this when I finally install them. I know this may sound like I’m arguing but I’m not I promise. When I had these in 1.0 from injora I went and bought “tuning disks” from Akers Enginnering. And basically it stiffened up that side wall enough to make its inherent problems with the rounded edges go away, side hilling and grabbing inside edges improved tremendously. No one that I know of makes “tuning disks” for 1/10 yet. I know 3D inserts and Silicone insets are all the rage but I feel like a more simple solution has been sorted out it just hasn’t been scaled up yet. I have plans to try some things out once I get some materials in my hands. What I want to try might actually help the Proline Trenchers as well. Ultimately I would like to test these out on my own with some video footage and then contact Will at Akers a see if maybe he can put them on his store permanently like his other 1.0 versions.
So interesting that in the full size world the TSL would be preferred over the bogger for side hilling and lateral traction but here it was the other way around
yep..same here. I luckily found a set of duratrax deep woods. Double bun in them? What would be your choice on insert for a 8lb rig? I even thought possibly Injora sillies. Considering your not a PL lover...Ill buy'em after the testing.
Im pretty late to this party, perhaps because i already own a set....in predator and g8....and 4.3...and swamper iroks... obviously i like them. I've had the 4.3 swampers for 5 years. And put at least 300 real miles on them. Only ever cleaned with simple green. And they have stayed remarkably sticky over the years. Originally picked for aesthetic reasons, but became the standard I measured from.
First non-junkview tire test since the shock upgrade on baseline? I almost want to see the sidehill again on his old trusty shocks. Thanks for the vid!
I use these on all my scale rigs I love them in the terrain I have here in mid wales Uk mud .shale .water, slate ,rocks etc I’ve not found any tyres yet that can outperform them on these mediums .and I’ve tried dozens ,from proline to RC4wd to the cheap Chinese tyres and none have beaten them yet .on my mud bog trucks I use cut rc4wd boggers .
I live in a northern land of extreme temps. I concur, predator compound definitely gets too soft on the hottest of days. Even worse though is that I have actually torn through the predator tire tread on my local precambrian rock. All said, spring and fall they pretty awesome so I have not completely dismissed them. There is a certain pleasure I have derived from subjecting them to a certain thrashing. I should add that your review was indeed thorough. I think you pretty much nailed it though comparing it to a flat iron seems unfair to the tire. The Flat Iron has a beast of a shoulder . Perhaps compare them in the mud pit?
Hey my favorite tire. I have like 10...11..no, 13 sets of SS TSL XL's in the G8. I have the Crawler Innovations single stage fronts, dual stage rear in all but one set...and I'm about to try that one set with the Injora silicone inserts.
The Crawler Innovation foams are smaller diameter and allow the tire to 'squish'...which I think really lends to being able to grip and pull over so many obstacles. When the tire is filled with insert or foam I'm uncertain if performance is better than with a 'squish' type insert. They jsut work so well with squish.
Exactly what it sounds like, the stuff you blow bubbles with. I've been using it as mounting solution for bicycle and RC tires for ages. Out of the same 32oz bottle that cost me 99¢ when my kids were small. Leaves no residue.
Have brand new ones on predator compound ready to go once Beadlocks land here with injora blues and brass rings in front. The blues I saw on here. Predator all day every day 1000 times on Sunday lol But that’s if you just want straight up cling to shit. Man love watching you work. So many good tips all day every day 20000 times on Sunday!!! 🍻🤘
If you tried these on Eskee....being super, duper low CG...which might negate the side wall rolling over while side hilling, I'm seeing confetti and fireworks raining from the skies. LOL.
I think sidehill would improve on something 3D printed, but that it would likely be even worse on the Injoras, as the weakness of the tire shape (for me) is the rounded shoulder, and the Injora inserts would not help that. I think the Swampers have a smidge more forward drive than the Flat Irons, but the Flat Irons benefit from an "across the board consistency." The Flat Iron is kinda Pro-Line's equivalent of the Canyon Trail-- not the absolute best in every category, but just nice and consistent.
That’s crazy. I literally just got home after trading to get these tires in G8 compound. I recently got them in predator compound, which work great. I’ll have to do some side by side testing when it gets hot out. People in these parts say to go predator all day every day and twice on Sundays.
Today the predator compound did pretty well sidehilling for me on some wet and muddy slate rock using 3d printed inserts. I did notice the rear end sliding out more than I would like a couple of times. Luckily they were more predictable for me than you experienced. There was some water below that was deep enough for it to submarine if it fell in. I was prepared to rescue it if need be. I wore my crocs, but it’s really slick as soon as you step in the water.
To be used for anything resembling actual crawling, the High Trail. For looking the absolute unmatchably coolest, the Willys for sure. For financials, the Willys by an overwhelming margin. It costs $250 less, so you can have a tricked out and loaded down Willys for less than the High Trail RTR. You could even get the trailer.
@@CrawlerCanyon Horizon ruined my Willys experience by using cheap shipping methods with no tracking. I waited 2 weeks and it was damaged. It took another month to get my money back. During all this, it goes on sale, so you see why I’m leaning towards the black edition high Trail. I can lower it and put an SE 1800 in it and climb rocks. After seeing the mirror laying in the backseat when I open the box, it hit me at how quick the novelty of this item will wear off. Then to top it all off I turn on crawler Canyon and bam there it is right in my face.
The issues with BBs are that they're just too dense. 100g of steel BBs takes up 1/7th the space of 100g of airsoft BBs, so then we need something else to fill that space. Being smaller, they also like to wedge themselves into every nook and cranny in between whatever else is being used to fill up that space.
These VS. Hunks? Would we all pay a few $$ more if JConcepts produced licensed tires? Green vs. G8 at high/low temps, vs predator at high/low temps...??? This is the way.
The wheels are generic Amazon Method 105 clones. I buy whatever is cheapest at the time from any of the Amazon brands like Globact, DKKY, Que-T, etc. These were OGRC: amzn.to/48Dwd6A This set ended up all orange by coincidence-- they're sold as "yellow" with black rings, and I had bought a set of Injora -10 offset deep wheels, which were black with orange rings. I swapped them around and made an all-black set of deeps and a full orange test wheelset. So long story short, I don't think you can buy them all orange, you gotta kit-bash two sets together. RCLIONS does sell rings by themselves amzn.to/3T9hxXj but they actually look reasonably close to gold. The Injora orange & black deeps are no longer a thing, it seems.
I see this tire a lot on Instagram, im not sure if I like this design or not (same as Hunks), maybe I will try them who knows when Super Swampers get 5th place on the leaderboard, nothing really important/interesting to say about it
The Swamper look doesn't pull me in for whatever reason (the entire fleet features one set of Hunks) and they have the typical Pro-Line problem of being just-so-close, but leaving us knowing that there are other tires that are more consistent performers for the same or less money. So you buy Swampers because you like them. I just had a Swamper Thought--- I need to act on it before I forget completely.
Because swampers are one of the most common used real scale good functioning tire, At least up here in washington. Great self cleaning tire. + the sizes you can purchase......
The G8 Swamper is always my go to on the majority of my trucks. I add the SL3D squid inserts and it’s an amazing combination.
I have the 2.9" version of these on my SCX6 Jeep JLU with dual stage foams. I was pleasantly surprised how well they do on the sandstone up here along the riverbank. Completely blew away the stock Axial KM3 tires.
These did a lot better than I expected. I knew they did great on dirt but didn’t expect them to do that great on the rocks with the tread pattern
My 4.75" inserts were designed around the Proline TSL SX XL, though mine are Predator compound (Norwegian climate and all that). The set of inserts you have should fit perfectly and do well in the G8 version as well. :)
agree with ktm . most people like these because they are very popular in full scale . def over here in colorado/utah area .
