- Happy Canada Day! I decided to grade Canada's provincial and territorial flags on a tier list.
Can you spot the hidden diamond?

I'm already well aware the CGP Grey has his own video looking at Canada's flags. Before you comment about this, remember that this video was published long before Grey's video was even announced.
That is pretty cool though that he also made his own video
Fun fact: for British Columbia, the sun part was originally on top of the flag but the British liked the "sun never sets on the British Empire" thing and swapped it (learned it while visiting parliament in Victoria)
Could be worst imagine the Brittish Union Flag over the Columbian Flag (half Yellow Stripe,Quarter Red Stripe, Quarter Blue Stripe) !

As a fellow Albertan i love this
If I had to design a Albertan Flag i will a jagged edge on the left to represent the rockies a sand stripe in the bottom to represent the bad lands, a thin blue strip the Bow river a green strip to represent the heartland , another blue stripe Northern Saskatchewan River a black stripe to reprensent the tar sands and petrol in the north and finally a white strip to represent the snow. Also add a wild rose in the green stripe to complete the design.
When it comes to the Québec flag, context matters. Duplessis, the most religiously traditionalist Premiere the province has had, wanted to symbolize two things: The French language and history with the fleur de lys, and its Catholic heritage with the white cross. I feel people don't mention the latter as much.
As a young "monsieur" living in Quebec, I do admit that our flag is quite nice. If you are into Canada, I would recommend making a video on what would happen if "ze francais province"
had successfully become a distinct nation when that was proposed back in the 80s . "Bonsoir!"

The only other video I watched by Botpointo was the Door Tier List, and I was NOT prepared for their sudden drop in octaves.
Fun fact: Flags like New Brunswick's and PEI's (basically coat of arms but flag form) would be called a "banner of arms". Way better than the seal on blue my country America does often.
So, the PEI flag is a weird one. There's no official flag.. only a flag *design*. So the low-contrast bit is actually kind of luck of the draw. I once found a drawing of it so bad it looked like a kindergartener got their hands on some markers but it'd still be considered official. A good few provinces are like that too but they usually have an official SVG floating around.
I fear you may have suffered from the classic vexiollogy pitfall that is judging on flag *designs* and not the flag doing its flag thing on a flagpole. New Brunswick's flag for example, at a distance, is still instantly recognizable because it simplifies down to a red-yellow-blue tricolour with a black-white charge.. so the business of the detailing actually doesn't matter nearly as much as it feels, staring at an SVG. BC's, I feel like the business wasn't planned (it's rays overlapping waves so it feels a little skee-whif) so it doesn't simplify down to an easily identified tricolour as well and is a little harsh, but I know people who love it for that too, so I guess it's just a personal taste.
In all I think all us Canadians are super biased to our own provincial flags lmaoo. I loved this! Keep it up!

Me, a Nova Scotian with Scottish ancestry: Hehe the flag represents me and it’s epic. Even random UA-camrs say it.
Side note, why have I seen so many Albertan UA-camrs? They make up so much of the Canadian UA-camrs that I see for some reason.
The USA flags are haunted with the seal-on-blue and Canada has the red background with the UK flag on the corner with the seal on it

Here’s a great idea: Ranking of the former U.S.S.R.’s Soviet Socialist Republics Flags & the modern independent flags. (eg. Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan etc.)

I feel like putting Yukon lower than Northwest Territories is not the best move. In my opinion at least.
The thing is, Yukon is worse in terms of simplicity, but... They are much more distinct than Northwest territories with a green stripe. Gotta at least put on tier.

New Foundland and Labrador is probably my favourite non-country flag, if not favourite any flag at all)
Great video, but why isn't Nunavut's Flag S-Tier?!? Also, I think New Brunswick is a "magnificent Maryland" scenario and should be given an A (It's busy yet, distinct at a distance). I agree that my (Manitoba) flag is bad, but it's honest in that it shows we're still not free of our colonial history (still deserves D-tier though).
I was really tempted to put Nunavut in S tier, but I guess I settled for A.
I like the Red Ensign, but Ontario and Manitoba could have done better. I don't really care for my provincial flag of Alberta, but the design is balanced and original.

Agreed, the Nunavut flag is so incredibly distinct and quite beautiful. Newfoundland's is visually interesting for sure but also kind of confusing.
@@asdkotable It's actually the flag of Newfoundland & Labrador. The Newfoundland Flag is the Green-White-Pink Tricolor. (Simple and beautiful).
I know many people would disagree, but I like the Ontario flag! Yes it may be bland, but it represents Canadian history, Union Jack with the Symbol, I think it’s a solid A! However I dislike Manitoba, because the bear is a bit too complex. Also, the flag design was copied from Ontario, C Tier.

As someone who appreciates tradition I actually really love the Ontario flag. It’s looks a lot better than Yukon’s and NWT’s in my opinion
I would NOT put Newfoundland in S 😂, Nunavut should be in S 100%, and Yukon is gorgeous, green white and blue vertical bands is a pallet I've never seen anywhere else, and having been up there, when it's flying in the wind, it looks utterly glorious. S.

The Yukon is a territory, which is distinct from the provinces.
i hate Quebec but i would still give there flag B. Yukon i still think is S because the colors are nice. also i don't believe in the "simple" rule (because flag rules don't legally exist), but i think it stull should not be to busy.
Definitely wouldn't put Newfoundland in S. Yeah, the symbolism is creative but it looks pretty weird.

The Alberta flag rating is definitely biased. It’s only *slightly* better than the Ontario and Manitoba flags. But still D tier. Also, how are the Yukon and NWT flags so high? They should be in the F tier with the PEI flag, both are terrible. I mostly agree with everything else though
