The amount of work and dedication that apple puts just to prevent its users to service their own phones is actually frightening. They’re soo passionate at it, i bet apple had a whole team on their HQ called “anti service team”

@@dc-yu9mv And that's largely because Apple's gotten away with it for so long, and with Apple it's not even just limited to their phones. Their laptops, their desktops, literally every product they make is designed to be as unrepairable as possible. Just because Samsung and other companies are starting to do it now too doesn't make it okay. Not only is it anti-consumer, it contributes massively to e-waste when these companies straight up design their devices to be throw out every couple of years.

    • @confusername

@@dc-yu9mv Do they? I've heard of the A51s "software lock" but that seems to be a recalibration issue that only affects the fingerprint sensor due to the end user not having access to recalibration software, rather than being a software lock. Otherwise even the most recent Samsung flagship seems to be extremely modular. I'm not sure how bad their other products are to repair, but that seems to be the only issues I've heard of with their products in terms of repairability thus far. Have they been talking about making repairs harder? I might want to switch away from Samsung if that's the case then.

The fingerprint scanner was awful as it is, slow and unreliable but now that it kept saying to take it to Samsung to "calibrate" it, when you couldn't calibrate it yourself or download a calibration database from the internet (or something idk) was kinda adding insult to injury. After all, since technically iOS 16 is not yet out, the iPhone 6s is the oldest phone currently supported by the latest iOS revision WITH A HEADPHONE JACK... And somehow manages to run decent. At this point I legitimately think the 2 screws on the bottom are almost purely for show. Yes, I know they obviously hold parts in, but I have a feeling that it's harder for someone to remove all the adhesives in the phone. It's like apple's like "bro I swear it's repairable look it has S C R E W S" meanwhile, we have to use lasers to remove rear glass
