    The only fault I have with the Beeline because I need glasses is the small exit number on the roundabouts, difficult to read at a glance, it needs to be slightly bigger in my opinion. Apart from that its brilliant.

      same by me, the numbers to small and if it rain you loose any chance to read it.

    Got my Beeline yesterday and tried it out today on my Norton Commando.
    I bought the posh metal version and was surprised how heavy it is.
    Hope that the mount isnt to flimsy in the long run (Old-Brit-Vibrations !)
    Yes, the exit numbers for roundabouts are too small, and the permanent GPS-Connection flattens the phone battery at an alarming rate but apart from that: Really nice device that doesnt ruin the appearance of a classic bike.

    Love it - just make sure your phone is equipped with a good GPS chip/antenna. The very reason I buy a dedicated GPS is the poor quality of most phones' GPS systems.
    EDIT: just found out you can add (bluetooth) external GPS receiver to any phone - Garmin GLO 2 GPS GLONASS Bluetooth Receiver is an example - but there are other units on offer. This will add more precise locationing.

    I have it for over the year now and I like it, but definitely can be improved! For example give more setting choices from device itself, rather then get the phone out every time you want alter your route, like for scenic one after Motorway stint, or simple Go Home function which start a route for you in the direction of your house!

    Bought one a couple of years ago and found: screen too small for my poor old eyesight, prefer voice guidance to looking at a screen (less distraction), good battery life. Ultimately I switched back to Scenic on iPhone or Google Maps/Waze for cities or finding complex destinations. Really wanted to get on with Beeline more :(

    I like it, but also.. I'm not sure... I love the size (even though the screen could be bigger instead of the huge blank area around it... great for A to B.. and I might still get one for that.. as I don't like the bulkiness of my tomtom rider.
    but I do some tours in the mountains, and I like having a map visible on my tomtom to see what kind of bends and turns are coming up. So I can adjust my speed accordingly if I see a hairpin turn coming up.. or judge when it would be best to overtake cars if I can see a straight section coming up on the map.. this allows for some better anticipation and planning.. The beeline obviously won't show this, as it will only show the next turn you have to make, it won't show bends on your current road.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 роки тому +1

      Very true and totally understand, for me that’s actually made me a safer rider because I’m not interpreting the road based on what I a computer is showing which can sometimes lead to people thinking they know what’s ahead when I’m fact they don’t or haven’t accounted for altitude changes, obstacles, etcetc. I used to be exactly the same when using my phone for nav but I don’t miss it.

  • @rhyswilliams254
    @rhyswilliams254 4 роки тому +1

    I have used the Beeline now for several months. It is a nice piece of gear. There is one thing to keep in mind; it only works as good as your cell phone. If you run out of cell coverage and your phone can not find itself, you lose navigation. So it does not replace a real satellite GPS unit. I use the Beeline when I can, but still have my Garmin GPS mounted.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  4 роки тому +5

      I normally only find this is an issue if you try and start a route with no service but I haven’t yet lost total GPS signal on my phone, just 4G which doesn’t affect an already ‘started’ route

    I find it often gives you the wrong exit on a roundabout, gives veryblittle warning for exits from dual carriageways and tends to struggle in town.
    Google maps is far easier to follow.
    Still works ok'ish. But you need to pay attention as to where you are going rather than just absentmindedly following the directions.

    HI. Thanks so much for the fantastic videos that you have completed on the Beeline! Really great and helpful. I am very close to purchasing one, however I just have one thing I need to work out. Does the beeline have built in GPS? Or relies solely on the connection to the phone. The reason I ask, is that I want to know if the Speedo function screen will work while the phone is not connected. ie: if I am just riding to work for the day, can I simply turn on the beeline and have the speedo screen work? Or do I have to turn on the app on my phone for this to work every time? If I do have to turn the app on every time, do I have to set a destination. Or can it just show my speed for example. I want to just use it for the speedo sometime for eg. Cheers and thanks again.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  Рік тому

      It relies on GPS from the phone for the speedo. You’d have to set a destination to use the speedo function too, which isn’t the end of the world as you can set a random place, but you can’t use it without a phone connection

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому

      For mapping the system is based on google maps so doesn’t have an off road version. When I ride green lanes I plot a route using ViewRanger and then export a GPX file to the beeline which works well for me :)

    Will the Beeline continue to navigate using your phone's GPS if you have lost cell tower coverage?

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  4 роки тому +4

      Yes! No cell / data coverage needed. Only need that to plot your route - once you’ve saved the route or hit ‘go’ then it works offline. The only difference is it will just tell you to turn back to rejoin your route rather than rerouting when working offline.

    That was surprisingly a pretty honest review for someone who's an ambassador of the brand. Would you say the navigation app itself is just as good as google? Like do you have different names of shops and companies etc or do you always have to enter the exact address? For example in google maps I can just type in Starbucks and it will list all the starbucks shops in the area and I can choose the nearest one.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  4 роки тому +6

      The Wild One used to be but not currently or at the time of filming 😁 I think beeline are confident enough in this product that they’re ok with honesty, nothing is perfect! The app works off google maps’ platform so the search function is exactly the same, you also have the same routing options/exemptions and from next month you should also have improved route options with multiple routes to choose from. I would say the waypoint function makes it slightly better than google maps. You can save favourite places and routes too. The app is free and doesn’t require the device so why not download and try it out to see how you like it :)

  • @anxiousappliance

    Does the Beeline have offline GPS mapping? Before mine fell out of its mount, if I wasn't on the pre-set route, set using a wifi connection, it wouldn't re-route in rural areas with no cell access. Could have been my unfamiliarity, but it's gone now and I'll never know.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  Рік тому

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому

      Hey Tony! I did more of a how to video for beeline a year or so ago which you can find on their channel but basically you just tap on the line created by the route you have set to create a waypoint and then press hold and drag that to move it, I zoom in to check that this creates a flowing route without being told to turn around etc. I normally just map routes in sections though for example I’ll set the route by adding point A as the destination then deselect that by tapping anywhere on the map and add a new destination and that basically changes the final point and makes the previous final point a waypoint :)

      I use Google maps with a headphone so I get audio messages but nothing visual, which is fine unless you're going fast and wind noise makes hearing the exit number difficult sometimes. Also means I can't use my protective buds. I think the UI would take a bit of getting used to but these are tempting. Cameras, traffic and re-routing are good to have though. please request this feature to Beeline:
    it would be useful to have a second kind of view point that gives you a signal on the Beeline device when you are approaching it.
    let's say I create a route from point A to point B, and on the route I add viewpoint 1 and viewpoint 2. viewpoint 1 is there because I want the route to go through a particolar street but I don't need to be warned when I'm there, and viewpoint 2 is set at particular place, where I want to be warned on the Beeline device when I'm there (maybe cos I want to meet a friend there, or make a stop, or whatever).
    it should be possible to change the kind of viewpoint by tapping on it, and give it a different color, to distinguish this new kind from the original one.
    since we don't see a map, a warning on the Beeline device could be very useful to know when we reached a certain place.

      I don’t think the bicycle version is fully waterproof or shockproof. It doesn’t use the same mounting system as the moto (it just uses a strap to mount to bars). Other than that I’m not too sure of other differences - the overall concept is the same.

    What does the device do to your phone? Is the app open and running all the time while driving? Does it drain your phone battery? And can you charge the device when it is mounted on the holder?

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Elmer, the app runs in the background but as it isn’t using the screen of your phone the battery drain is minimal. It just uses your phone for the GPS. You can’t charge the device when mounted as the mount uses the same system as the charger. They haven’t made a USB charging mount yet. The battery of the device lasts 30 hours so it’s fine for multi day rides.

    • @HenryCrew35
      @HenryCrew35  3 роки тому +1

      There will be a icon in the middle telling you to stay left or right, that combined with the arrow and turn dot is normally sufficient on really big motorways however I do think with this device you do have to be a little more engaged and aware in situations like that than you would with a SatNav with a massive screen. A pitty that the system doesn't route you back to the preplanned GPX track (no recalculation) that you uploaded when you have to leave the track for one or the other reason (works in progress, road block). Very annoying. You have to take out your phone and try to memorise a route which sircumnavigates the obstacle and brings you back to the track. The system should be able to do this. Now I only use it to navigate from A to B on a route the Beeline chooses. This way the system recalculates when you miss or skipped a turning point.

    Not so good for we Yanks.
    The big arrow indicator doesn't work well at all for intercity riding. (Here in the States, where we have like 5 round-abouts in the entire country)
    At intersections (junctions) the Beeline's big arrow doesn't change to indicate the needed turn direction until mere feet before the turn.
    For inter-city navigation, its common that you need to be in the proper lane well before the turn. The Big Arrow is no help for that. This makes the Big Arrow feature worthless.
    I've waited at a busy traffic light intersection, 3 car lengths back from the traffic light, and the BeeLine still hasn't indicated a turn was necessary.
    Yes the small DOT and the 'distance to go' should indicate which way to turn. But if you are in 3 or 4 lanes of traffic you need to pick the turn lane well before you get there. What good is the Big Arrow?
    For my money - and Use Case - the Dot and Miles-to-Go should be the larger displays, not the Arrow. (that's not going to happen :-)
    I haven't used it outside my large city so it may be more useful riding in the countryside.
    Virtually all YT demos of the BeeLine have featured round-about navigation. Not traffic lights.
    (I use a Pixel 6 Pro phone. cell service is on and its in my top shirt pocket)
    In spite of this Arrow problem I'll keep using the BeeLine and the Arrow will keep telling me When I have turned.

    If tested the beeline in the last 2 and a half years . My close opinion for it ?
    Don´t buy it. Every navigation app is more comfortable as the Beeline App will be in ten years. The Beeline itself would like to make an update at every boot. This costs a lot of time, angar because you need a Data Conection for a succesfull Update The precision is more a sub underclass level. The precision of Navigation is by +/- 45 m . Thats could be work if your alone in nowhere land but in a City or a bigger town with more than two Corners is that not a realy fun to ride. Its a no go.
    You have to use the the beeline app, only . The powerconsumption from the app is high. That means in less than 4 houers your phone is empty.

    For what it is, it's very expensive. Contrast that with a free app on your phone. Secondly, a phone display shows clearly the route in blue, the shape of the road, and how far you are along it.....at a glance. The Beeline shows an arrow. You have no idea how far you are along your route, or how far you have to go.
