I just that it was something you had to deal with until your hair grows out of it. But that technique is so clean. It eliminates the ugly phase while the top grows.

As a fellow porcupine head, don't cut it for at least 3 months and you'll find your hair sticking to your hair too (I've been growing out since November 2022 with periodic trims since)
@@blitzed5210I have gone that long and even longer without cutting the sides and it does help yeah.Only negative is at that point a lot of people will bust your balls to get a trimm not knowing the situation.
try to get a down perm, very popular in east asian countries bc they struggle with this exact problem. idk if the money and upkeep is worth it tho but you could always try it out

Also the REASON it sticks out is because it is round follicle hair. Nothing to do with the haircut. The title is very misleading.
My hair used to sticking out like that, but now they all fall very smoothly, I'm not sure if it's the haircut, or because I've been growing my hair out (though i used to have long jair but my hair was pretty much still sticking out like a lion hair), or because my hair used to be very dry, now i look at my hair, and they all seem very relaxed

Awesome. I cut my own hair and i usually blend with the different guard sizes. From 4 at the top down to 1 at the bottom. I think i need to do it more like this though. Just cut it and it is pretty short all the way to the top on the sides lol. I need to do it with the comb next time it grows back in.

I go up inch by inch and I do a three guards two guard halfway down and one guard at the bottom and just curl away as I finish a stroke like I saw a stylist do to my hair one time. I really should get one of those mirrors that can go behind my head on a extender arm or something. But I don't know I've done it off and on since like 2012 and I remember the first time I ever tried it I came in the next day to work and everyone was like oh nice haircut and I'm like yeah I did it myself, and they were like no way!?? I said yup lol.

I cut my own hair too. If youre okay with not having too tight of a fade/taper it is definitely doable on your own. I go with a #2 on the sides and taper in just the sideburns and lower neck
