I've messed around trying to make my own hard crank baits but it's difficult to get the shape/action/weight right. Lips for diving are difficult. But after seeing this i might have to finally try the soft plastics. You did a great job making it accessible. And catching stacked up pond bass is right up my alley.
I think what has worked best for me when a bait isn't working/swimming right is to compare my bait side by side with my favorite manufactured one and try to spot any subtle differences in the design that might make their bait swim better. It usually takes several tries and in this case it took about 5 different tail designs to finally get something that I liked. My main mistake was trying to make too many baits at once. If you focus on just 1 soft plastic bait it is very doable as long as you have a space to do the plastic pouring (the fumes are horrible). I really like the clay molding because unlike wood when you make a mistake you can always work backwards to modify. I found it much easier to get a shape I liked. I appreciate the comment and good luck with your bait making!
Half an hour well spend for me, must have taken a big effort. Rudder acts true indeed. Makes me think if you put braid in with a loop in front for hooking the head and a hook in the tail might increase your chances? Thank you!
Hi Leon, thanks for watching! It did take a lot of work but well worth it to see a fish eat my own lures! I will try your suggestions and see if that helps! Thank you!
I appreciate that you keep pushing your fishing journey and just dive right into a project. Then you show everything. That helps give some of us courage to do the same. I always appreciate when you post the links, too. Keep the great content coming.
Thanks, I'm glad these videos are helpful! I know I'm not an expert on a lot of these topics but I hope the perspective of a beginner resonates with other beginners. I think your comments hit it on the head what I am going for with these videos. Thanks for the kind words!
Yes, he's a legend and one of the bait makers who inspired me to try it myself. Worlds Worst Fishing is another channel I like to watch that has some good bait making stuff.
I caught some huge fish on these homemade plastics. Check out the part 2 video here: ua-cam.com/video/b8HS37BzXEA/v-deo.html
