In my experience with this laptop it is a beast! I’ve had zero problems with it and i’ve been able to run games with all settings turned up and get max frames with no dropping! Temps stay cool especially w/ the g key! The one thing I will mention is that dells thermals aren’t the best but most laptops that have this much power just don’t run best flat on a surface that’s gonna keep the heat trapped. It’s the reason why I use a laptop stand! I have had zero problems with thermals or anything since I got it my cpu and gpu temps never hit over 70 at all. I definitely recommend this pc
I like this laptop in the first look. The design is unique especially the backside awesome. The build quality is excellent with Intel Core i7-10750H, 4K (3840 x 2160) OLED, 1TB SSD, 4Zone RGB with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q. RAM DDR4 Expandable To 32GB Thermal is a little issue but you can overcome it by settings and using a good laptop cooler. A very detailed review by MR. SEAN.
no freaking fucking way ! i had zephyrus m15 the same cpu with huge thermals issue never manage to solve it even with undervolting ...finally the laptop gave up and bought midrange laptop with 8 cores CPU ! instead of this 6 trash the thermals won't go above 80 Celsius..it's ryzen 7-5800h
I was going to buy one but this video changed my mind. Thanks for addressing the overheating problem! it's a deal breaker for me. Thanks for the honest review!!
My biggest complaint with the G7 is the 2.6 pound power supply. I wanted a relatively light weight laptop but I didn't take into account the huge power supply.
Despite the thermal issue, I did purchase this laptop since I game seldomy. This is my first PC gaming system so I did find out some useful info to help tweak this laptop. Would you or anyone reading this comment suggest highly recommend any resources such articles, apps, or etc. to enhance my knowledge or user experience.
The thermals aren’t that big of a deal . Most 10th gen laptops run hot anyway unless they have specialized cooling. My aorus 15 sa got hot and my hp omen 17t got hot. I got my g7 7700 on sale. I definitely would not pay 1700 or 2k for it. Not worth it at those prices.
thanks for your awesome review of this model. Not enough reviews on this model Dell g7 with oled from others. So you did a great review esp with benchmarks of games and temps being under control with undervolt.
@@Lucky5111 yes, that sale is now over, ended in 2 days, I know someone who purchased one. So after Bios update, is it really worth it. Can it game as well as those other RTX 2060 laptops in the same price range, with the lower 3500mhz clock speed and slight overclock gpu?...lol...another week later 2-22, sale seems back. So they want to clear this old stock out to make room for new RTX 3060/3070s.
I use throttlestop, now people have told me that you can’t modify the 10th gen intel cores, but I was having thermalthrottle issues and after I used throttlestop I didn’t, but I was having CPU heat issues, downloaded throttlestop and adjusted my fans to max in the Alienware command center, and now my CPU never goes above 70°
I sold my g7 7700 and got a razer blade pro 17 with the old 9750h cpu. I ran the timespy benchmark and to my surprise the 9750h in razer out performed the 10750h in the Dell g7. The benchmark scored a lot higher. I guess the thermals in the g7 are so poor the cpu can't perform as it should.
Thanks For your video!, very usefull i just got it and wonder how to use the "Quick CPU" app, to make the 45 watts change and also the GPU too, also wich version are you running on this review?
I know this doesn't matter now that this video is a bit over a year but looking at your game settings v sync was on, on all games and was locked on 59 fps on cyber punk. With it off this laptop can actually perform pretty good (really recommend a cooling pad like most) a good performance boost for the people looking to get one second hand, is to buy a 144hz 1080p monitor. should play games at a better fps with high settings
How do you think it would do at 40w? Also I thought the thermals were locked by Dell? I was trying to undervolt the voltage but I couldn’t. I know there’s a work around for it. Do you not need to touch the voltage if you adjust the watts? Is that doing the same thing? I’m confused
yes limiting the voltage is undervolting though it isnt exactly what you would expect. undervolt is a graph in a more traditional sense but setting a hard limit just means it wont go further. thermal management is locked by dell which is why he limited power and frequency on the cpu in windows
I repasted my g7. Didn't really make that much of a difference. Gpu seems to rub cooler. It idles lower but once you plug it up cpu temps spike up to 99 again.
could you compare Razer to dell OLED (screen, thermals, noise, battery )? also few questions - will it work with old PSU? my old DELL gaming laptop have 180w native PSU but working with 120w and even 40w psu from other dell laptops and chap replacement one
I tried using that quick CPU mine still reaches 100 degrees. It runs fine but I wish it didn't run that hot. I also used MSI afterburner and undervolted the GPU.I have the max p 2070 in mine. I think I might return it and get a MSI GS 75 stealth.
The only other thing I would recommend doing is deleting the Alienware software that comes with this PC. I'm 'fairly' certain it reverts the BIOS Thermal Ultra Performance setting recommended in this video. That, and it's basically trash. I noticed the Alienware Command Center App was faulting at each startup. So, just get rid of it lol. Other than that, if you apply these custom settings and buy this laptop at the marked down price, it REALLY is a steal.
Hey man, i just bought the 4k oled RTX 2070 max-q laptop and i wanted to ask you how i can get those themps on my laptop. Cuz it went from 95 to 75 lol. Can you help me bro
Think I'm gonna replace the thermal paste in mine. I heard the thermal paste Dell uses is sht. I got the g7 7700 17 inch one. I already replaced both my drives mine only came with 512 GB which is basically nothing. Replaced it with a 2tb and put a 1tb in the other slot.
I was wondering where you bought your Dell from because I’ve been hearing a lot of really bad reviews and stuff about Dell’s customer service and that a lot of people complained about not getting their computers for close to three months after they ordered them. I just ordered this one two weeks ago and nothing has been updated since and now after what I’ve read, I want to cancel my order.
I have the G7700 version of the laptop. It does have a second drive slot so I run a second 2TB drive. The overheating is a nightmare, so after 10months of owenership and 7months of trying to deal with Dell technical support, it's going back for a full refund.
Would you buy this today, with the new laptops out? @ ~1200? I have been between this and the Gigabyte OLED. I am looking at this for content creation and gaming versus 3060 models
Probably not, the temperatures on this were just bad. The Razer and Gigabyte OLED models are better. The 1440p 100% DCI-P3 IPS screen some vendors are using on the 3000 series would be good for content creation, too.
Just got this laptop but not for gaming. I'll actually be using it for CAD, design software, and some programming. Any thoughts on if this would be a good fit for me? or should I return it? I was able to get it for about 1500 then 1200 with gift cards
If you go into the bios and turn off Turbo boost for CPU you will gain 20 to 25゚Celsius my cpu has not over 60 Celsius It has been a lifesaver for me and does not take anything away from gaming performance Let me know if you try it and put your cpu back to full power
You can do that on any Intel cpu (you don’t need to go into the bios, you can do it in Windows) but that is a huge performance sacrifice, and many games will run slow at the base clock. Using quick cpu is much better because you can keep it running over 3ghz
I tried that and I lost a lot of performance. Not worth it. I went from 86-90 FPS in shadow of Tomb raider down to 76. Performed worse than my 1660 ti laptop I had when I disabled boost.
Cooling pads will bring down temps by about 3 degrees, so they help a bit. But dont expect much more cooling. Elevating a laptop will provide the almost the same cooling gains.
@@Playa-V Thanks; I have done some testing since I posted the question; It's important to note that there are variables, namely cooling fan position on the pad and laptop lower cover layout. It's no cookie-cutter answer for that question; one cooling pad might not work well with a certain laptop but work great for another and everything in between. I picked up this exact laptop a couple days ago, and after the BIOS update that came out the day before that, I lucked out with a Cooler Master pad that I've had for years. With the pad's fan cranked to 100%, I've got the GPU bumped up with the same settings in Afterburner as Sean, and both thermals are kept in check. I can use the turbo button, and it's a pretty amazing jump in power; it's a pretty stout rig. Happy gaming...
Yes the Alienware Command Center software he uses to customize his sound settings also controls the lights & much more. It should be pre installed on the laptop.

I need help with my laptop its a g7 I just got it yesterday and it keeps starting of my games with like 160 fps then just falls to 30 for how do I fix this
I need help. I have had this laptop for about a week now and every once in a while, my screen goes black. The laptop continues to run but the screen goes black and I have to close the laptop and then open it up again for the screen to turn back on. Does anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it? Thanks.
My g7 7700 has the 300hz panel. Its pretty amazing. The response time really makes things look and feel smooth.Honestly I would never get the 4k especially in a screen that small you're not really getting the full benefit of 4 and it hurts performance and the response times of the 4k are terrible. It does get waay brighter though.I would only get the 4k if you want the best color accuracy and are using it for content creation.
OLED has pretty much immediate response time, it’s faster than the IPS high refresh model in that regard. It really depends on the games you play. Even if you are running a game at 1080p 60hz like RDR2 or Cyberpunk, it’s going to look way better on the OLED and laptop hardware won’t really run them at high refresh anyway.
I got the g7 7700 from Best Buy for 1300. I definitely would not pay 1700 or 2k for this laptop. Dell ought to be ashamed asking that price with such poor thermals. I’m kinda on the fence about returning mine. It runs hot too. Hits 100 degrees Celsius. The 17 has two slots but dell doesn’t give you the bracket for the second drive. If I return it that means I’m gonna have to spend more money cause there is no other laptop in that price range that comes close with the 17 inch screen.
As he mentioned, for an open-box option it is under $1100 now. This computer runs and looks insane for that price. Even a brand new model is listed at $1300 at bestbuy right now.
Yeah, he's obviously applied a frame limit in the games' graphics settings, which makes sense for everyday use (as the display he's using has a 60Hz refresh rate), but is completely pointless when it comes to providing an actual indication of the laptop's performance in a review. I wouldn't trust the performance metrics he's provided anyway, as limiting the power limit of the CPU to 66% of stock AND setting a fixed clock of 3.5GHz is pretty daft in my opinion and likely to massively bottleneck the GPU, especially at 1080p.
i have had the 300hz version with the max P 2070, 17.3" vs your 4k 15.6" max Q 2070, and dude let me tell you. this laptop is a FUCKING MESS HAHAHA. man thermal throttling isnt even the problem (thats what everyone thinks it is) its actually power limit throttling, and its sad to see it with even your 80w max Q. this laptops just has too much power and not even a suffice cooling system for a basic intel cpu and even a 1650. it would still run 80+. this laptop is a piece of hot garbage. literally. i will be retuning. my lenovo legion 5i with a 1660ti and same cpu, runs around 70-80 at max, and kicks the shit out of the 2070 max P dell due to the power throttling. and you and i both know if it wasnt power limit throttling, it would be THERMAL throttling not long after. be safe my man.
The best Dell “gaming PCs” I’ve had were barebones Optiplex systems that I’ve upgraded myself I think. They aren’t my first choice for sure, but they’re so prevalent that I think they’re interesting to look at ✌️
All you really need to know about this laptop, is don't waste your money on it lol. just buy an Alienware or an Asus. The laptop has great specs for the price, but the thermal control is completely unacceptable for something of this price. Talk about destroying the life of the chip as well

@@NATIVES1N the quality of the oled is good in this laptop?
Can anyone tell me why it only got Max 60fps. Was this something he manually configured that I missed. Thanks.
Yeah, he's obviously applied a frame limit in the games' graphics settings, which makes sense for everyday use (as the display he's using has a 60Hz refresh rate), but is completely pointless when it comes to providing an actual indication of the laptop's performance in a review.
I wouldn't trust the performance metrics he's provided anyway, as limiting the power limit of the CPU to 66% of stock AND setting a fixed clock of 3.5GHz is pretty daft in my opinion and likely to massively bottleneck the GPU, especially at 1080p.
i have had the 300hz version with the max P 2070, 17.3" vs your 4k 15.6" max Q 2070, and dude let me tell you. this laptop is a FUCKING MESS HAHAHA. man thermal throttling isnt even the problem (thats what everyone thinks it is) its actually power limit throttling, and its sad to see it with even your 80w max Q. this laptops just has too much power and not even a suffice cooling system for a basic intel cpu and even a 1650. it would still run 80+. this laptop is a piece of hot garbage. literally. i will be retuning.
my lenovo legion 5i with a 1660ti and same cpu, runs around 70-80 at max, and kicks the shit out of the 2070 max P dell due to the power throttling. and you and i both know if it wasnt power limit throttling, it would be THERMAL throttling not long after. be safe my man.
i have a g7 and its pure crap of laptop i will never buy again DELL pc
The best Dell “gaming PCs” I’ve had were barebones Optiplex systems that I’ve upgraded myself I think. They aren’t my first choice for sure, but they’re so prevalent that I think they’re interesting to look at ✌️
@@TechWithSean for music production DELL its pure shite
All you really need to know about this laptop, is don't waste your money on it lol. just buy an Alienware or an Asus. The laptop has great specs for the price, but the thermal control is completely unacceptable for something of this price. Talk about destroying the life of the chip as well
Hey bro could I flick you a email ?
Hi can you open it up and add a second hard drive? Can you provide a link to the software and more detailed instructions? If I give you my email?
