Isn't it amazing that people are still praising the show 1 decade later? Best cartoon ever.
Totally, it just goes to show what a masterpiece it really was.💖😊 The live action film, on the other hand... 🙄😮
Trina Q We don’t talk about her here 👀
Its 15 years old im so old goddddd.
Also yes it's just held up so frickin well.
It's even more praised now and that's amazing
I wish Korra had the money to go all out!!
Katara was a character I related to so much. She showed me that I could be both empathetic and strong. That it's not weak to feel so much and care about those around you.
Chasity Boatman Katara is my favorite character. Not just in Avatar, but possibly ever. The amount of depth, empathy, and underlying passion in her character is just so rich and amazingly written.
Seconded, I related to Katara so much as a preteen. She showed me that women could be just as strong and badass as their male counterparts, and that empathy is a superb trait to possess 👏💛
Where are you people getting this?! I was sure that astrology disproved all of this...
My Pisces in me felt empowered by her
So true
YASSSS, Avatar is finally being featured. This was a show for kids but all the conflicts and symbolism and morals of the story were complex and realistic that I realized Avatar was for all ages. Even my dad was hooked on it. I'm so excited for the analysis on the other elements as well!
Trina Marie honestly I’m sad I missed out on it, and I’m gonna start watching it now! Never too late to start, right?
Violet Wynters it’s a must see for everyone
Violet Wynters never too late 😄 do it you’ll become wiser by 4 years and be entertained
I watched it with my dad growing up. I’ll never get over this show. Every time I re watch it as I get older I appreciate it more and more
@@violetlavi2207 yep, never too late. Besides, not only is it a show for all ages but for all seasons as well. Enjoy the show! And I know you will. 😊
I NEED a The Take essay on uncle Iroh’s life philosophy!!
He was so amazingly wise! I should've listened more regarding what he was saying. All I really remember now is that I must drink delicious tea..
Melissa Bay Yes!
Iroh is a taoist. His philosophy is based on the Three Treasures of Taoism, that being: compassion, frugality and humility
Through that he achieved Wu Wei. That being he understands that "effortless action" can balance the world
Ooooooh that would be awesome!
I think it would be better to analyze who Iroh is. More specifically, who Iroh was. Aside from Zuko, he's the most interesting character in the series to me.
Shout out to the real MVP: the patreon that recommend this show 😍😍😍😍
Seriously! God bless their beautiful soul T^T
There is only one mvp and that is Iroh
Woah! All these hearted comments. I'm sure the MVP feels extremely emotionally nourished...
Keep that sh*t comin'!...
0:30 can someone wat episode that is ?
Good looks!
The last time I was this early, the Air Nomads were still around.
TheFluffyKirbyPrincess Korra took care of that so.... you late?
YASS YASS
😭😭
And the Fire Nation didn’t attack.
TheFluffyKirbyPrincess Bruh 👀💀
BOTH water tribes?
You forget the third water culture!
The swamp people.
They're AWESOME!
My husband and I play a game called Crusader Kings and we use an Avatar mod. We once United the water tribes via the swamp. The game didn't consider the swamp as part of the water tribe. It was frustrating
There you can talk about adapting!
There’s only two water tribes, swamp benders Are earth kingdom water benders.
@@1javixD One fact does not have to rule out the other. There can be a tribe in a kingdom. And these Earth Kingdom water benders are clearly a tribe.
I'm gonna say what I'm sure other avatar fans are saying here: DO ALL THE ELEMENTS!!
But they are
Did y’all not listen to the video? Ffs
@@catch3588 yeah I let my excitement get the better of me. Commented before I watched the end lol 😂😅
Hahaha !phsych! they never did earth and air and I'm in pain
@@Donut4657 i'm still waiting for earth and air
Something I really like with Last Airbender is the consistently that the Avatar must adapt the philosophy of the element in order to bend it. Aang can't earthbend until he stops avoiding conflict, and stands his ground to face it instead. Aang fails at firebending (the modern style being very aggressive and destructive) until he and Zuko visit the dragons who show a different philosophy: fire being vibrant and alive.
It's been a while since I watched Korra, but if I recall correctly, they dropped that consistency when Korra airbends. She first airbends when she's trying to take down mask dude, straight on, like an earth bender? If I'm wrong feel free to correct me but that inconsistency bothers me
Becca G Yeah that was a bit of a deus ex machina unfortunately, I would’ve preferred if she first airbendended after doing something spiritual
That’s bc korra is a bad show
Look, I'm not a big fan of LoK but I think it fits quite well the point that Korra finally airbends. Yes she was taking on Armon head on but she had also just reached her lowest point (having her bending taken away from her) and just as Aang said later in the episode "when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change."
She didn't know that she'd be able to airbend but she confronted Armon with the belief or hope that she was the avatar and would find a way to restore balance.
She had to finally stop relying on her own strength and just believe for her to airbend. This is huge because she was never a spiritual person as the airbenders are
Oh my god, THAT’S WHY I was so uncomfortable when I first watched Korra! I genuinely felt like something was lost in the transition from ATLA to there, but everyone was too busy praising it that I just couldn’t pinpoint why. Inconsistency. Thanks for finally giving it a name and clearing it out!

Got emotional hearing the praise for Sokka - such a great, underrated and dynamic character! Almost every character on Avatar is amazing, but Sokka doesn't get enough credit!
He was my favorite character. He was strong despite being unable to bend. Those characters are ones to respect, especially when they become strong in a different way (sword fighting)
Im still sad he lose his space sword
And we never knew he find it again or not
@@reyvaldosoetiman2389 I read somewhere that he retrieved it in Legend of Korra? But I haven't watched it to find out

17:06 Katara, true female empowerment. Tbh all the leading women in this show were empowering in their own way. Toph, Kyoshi, even Azula.
**edit** and Suki! :D
Especially Azula! I loved her character. She was so efortlessly great without having annoying compensating characteristics writers like to tag onto female characters to either soften them up or make them more badass. Like over emphasizing their nurturing or motherly qualities to soften their badass fighters qualities or going hard in the other direction where they are loud in your face often bad tempered and even heartless "badasses," that they come off as dudes with vaginas...because that is some how empowering.
Azula was an ambitious, extremely competent leader, strategist, and fighter (and villian) who happened to be female. Suki the Kyoshi warrior was also like this too.
@@Passions5555 nicely said. Omg I forgot Suki! 😁😁
@@Passions5555 the less author's overthink the message, the more natural the character is.
@@ollie2111 I agree. Characters should be human first before anything else.

Avatar and Screen Prism, a match made in heaven 😍
I will now count to 3 and then I am still the unprettiest UA-camr of all time. 1...2...3. Btw I have two very hot girlfriends. Thank you for your attention, dear saita

yeah... I miss the old name.
Two of my favourite things ever are united, and I couldn't be more chuffed! 💜🥳
As a design student, I find it interesting how the connection between the elements and the psychology of colour theory is a reflection of emotion across cultures.
_Water (Blue)_
Blue represents trust, authority and is considered to be calming, soothing and peaceful, although it can also be associated with depression or sadness.
In Asian and Eastern cultures, the hue is ever-lasting in its association with immortality. It is also the colour of trust and serenity in Mexico.
In the Middle East, blue is safe and protecting. It is the colour associated with Heaven, spirituality and immortality.
what about the other colors?
The amount of detail that went into the show is simply mind-boggling. I remember watching this with my sister, who was heavily into martial arts at the time and while I can't remember any of the specific style names, my sister pointed out that the benders use the style of martial art that is most like their element. For example, firebenders use techniques and forms found in more aggressive styles of martial arts, waterbenders use styles of martial arts that focuses on redirection of your opponent's energy and using it against them, and the Earth benders use styles of martial arts that are focused on a strong foundation and powerful attacks.
The creators of the show were greatly inspired by martial arts, fighting scenes in Asian cinema, and multiple Asian religions! It's amazing.
My partner also pointed out that air benders are inspired by taichi (?). Taichi is chinese excercise similar to yoga that is good for your flexibility.
It's not martial art and air benders are pacifists. Nice little touch. :)
I just love the fact
that people are still talking about Avatar: The Last Airbender. Such a timeless work of Art.
Hopefully the next generation will also be introduced to the show to have a chance to appreciate how much we Love this Masterpiece
The Take is doing an Avatar series? I'm in.
The last time I'm this early, Zuko still hunting down the team Avatar...
*H O N O R*
Having re-watched this show now as an adult, I really appreciate Sokka’s character growth. I’d argue he was always smart, but as the show progressed he humbled himself and learned from those around him and became a great leader. He loves his sister and supports her, he scolds the gang when he has to, and he strategizes when they need him, and he does it all with heart.
When doing airbenders please look at Tenzin from legend of Korra too. Aang is very much an airbender but also veryshaped by his role as avatar
Agree!! Also for earth since we get to see how metal developed and later lava bending.
Korra's mindset actually does easily translate more to water than some people think. Just because she's assertive doesn't make her less of a waterbender in nature. After all, the ocean can be very strong and stubborn.
To be honest, it feels like a lot of people are bashing LoK without giving it a proper chance
@@georgeezra1225 That has nothing to do with what I said. You're replying to the wrong comment.
Vetarlit Torf I was agreeing with your analysis and making a more general comment about how a lot of people in the comments were reacting to the difference in how Korea reflects the values of water. I saw a whole thread where people immediately dismissed it as trash precisely because her style of water bending doesn’t gel with the idea of it that they got from ATLA. No attempt to see how it fits or what the difference might imply, just immediately labelling it a bad show
@@georgeezra1225 Delete your comments. They are irrelevant to mine.
Vetarlit Torf LOL no offense but that’s an awfully commanding tone for a stranger to have
You should do a video on just Iroh, perhaps the wisest character on the show. God, I never get over how good of a show it is… it’s stuck with (as I stuck with it) my whole life.
"I know sometimes it hurts more to hope and it hurts more to care, but you have to promise me that you won't stop caring." -Katara
Even if it's hard, it's harder not to be kind and show compassion.
Something that struck me about 16:08 when I first watched the series.
They don't teach their male warriors healing.
Magic healing, an astonishingly useful ability, which has no parallel in any of the other 3 nations, which would be a game changer on the battlefield. And yet rigid adherence to tradition means that the Water Tribe don't teach it to their warriors.
The focus of this sub-plot was rightly on Katara, but I think it's really cool that A:TLA also showed how patriarchy might limit (and harm) men.
Thank you to the Patron who recommended this. I was in my early 40s when I first watched this and I love this show. You can’t control your physical age, but you can stay young and flexible in your mind for your entire life by being open. I’m glad I never accepted that I was “too old” to watch this. :)
As a young person, I commend and respect this
Oh helllll yeah. My favorite show?? I have a Tui and La tattoo because growing up I always resonated with the water tribe, and as a child watching Yue sacrifice herself brought me to tears. This show is amazing 😭💙
God bless the patrion who requested this ❤️
I also love that chief Arnok says "So incredibly proud... and sad". I love that despite the Northern water tribe being patriarchal, he can acknowledge his feelings and show his grief and vulnerability without lashing out. It really highlights the emotional depth of water people.
I can't be the only one that's stoked The Take is making Avatar videos. It's one of the best and most interesting shows ever made, animated or otherwise.
We need Air and Earth now! And maybe a character analysis like you all did with Friends!
Okay I'm displeased. You covered waterbending, and ignored the foggy bottom swamp people who have their own unique culture. They're a mix of earth and water and are awesome.
Really.
The Take is racist
@@herbdeanisthegoldstandard8293 lol
the impact this show has had and continues to have after all of these years speaks volumes... i don't know a better show i really don't
When I first watched this show, never in my life did I think 15 years into the future that people would still be talking about it, and praising it. Now THAT's how you know you've made a masterpiece.
I'm extremely sad that this series wasn't completed with all 4 elements :,(
I have never clicked on a video so fast! This is amazing! Thumbs up for doing videos on the Avatar!
You remind how much I love those show and Katara I'm tearbending right now.... (T_T)
Me: Man I hope they do the other elements aswell
The take within the first minute: We will be taking a look on each of the elements....
Me: YAS QUEEN
This is fantastic. I always wondered exactly how the element of water/water-related characterises were represented in other stories as evil or lesser. Harry Potter for example, Slytherin, though significant exceptions occur, are generally seen as unscrupulous and resourcefulness is associated with unyielding ambition. However, water in the star signs and as an element, is healing and emphatic. This video highlights how both the good and bad can be present in a water person, and increases my admiration for the writing of the show
I’m definitely a water person as I respect tradition and my familial community, but am adapting to constant change slowly but steadily
Can we actually respect Katara and Sokka for helping that refugee give birth to baby Hope???
Avatar: the Last Air Person
Ooh finally! I’m so glad that the best animated show on television is being discussed!!
It’s a show really close to my heart, with the most well done redemption arc in TV history.
I would probably be a Waterbender as well!
Slight correction: all 3 water tribes are traditional. Everyone forgets about the swamp benders.
This is my favourite the take video so far. I’m so happy that they’re focusing on such an amazing series
I was wondering when you would get to this show. It's one of my favorites.
I’ve never gotten here so early, and for this video yeeeee WATER TRIBE
I'm so excited for the deep analysis you guys will provide for one of my favorite and most mentally and personally stimulating pieces of content that I've ever encountered. Thank you ladies for your takes on such great and deep content, no matter its presentation( since apparently cartoons invalidate complexity because its animated or "for kids")
I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am that u posted about Avatar. Love your channel and most definitely got a new subscriber. Good work and keep up with the great content 😙😙😙🖒🖒🖒🖒👏👏👏
This might be off base: I always found it curious, almost enlightening, how water is the element of the good guys in ATLA, but also the element of the "evil" Slytherins in Harry Potter. 💦🐍
I noticed that too. Water is two sided just like their absolute oppotisite: fire. Fire embodied the Gryffindor house (the good guys of the Harry Potter world) and the Fire Nation, ATLA Antagonists. Water is used to heal others, it's hydration in order to survive, it cleans and cleanses. But water is also dangerous. If one cannot swim the ocean will drag you down and make you drown. The sea is unforgiving. It's ruthless. Fire is used to cook for survival, it brings us light and warmth and shelter, it's also used as a symbol of unity. But as we all know, fire is ravenous and will destroy everything in its path. Both elements can cause great destruction. I live in Australia. Both elements are very prominate here. We literally went through the worst bushfire in years. Followed by floods. It's interesting how both elements are opposites and yet exactly the same.
Lmao I got Slytherin in Harry Potter quizzes but fire in avatar quizzes/personality tests 😂
@@user-ob9ek6rm9z I am also in Slytherin, and my zodiac sign is the air sign Aquarius. So I sometimes feel more like a Ravenclaw.
@@dansattah My zodiac sign is sagittarius 😂 I don't even know what kind of sign it is? Is it a fire one or something?
Interesting! Also, it becomes 'bad' in Korra's world as well (Amon and the gangster blood bender)
I wish you will continue this with the other two elements. I really love this videos. :D Definitely worth watching. Hope to watch more Avatar-related videos from your channel!!!
One of the best shows ever. Not just cartoons, Avatar has worldbuilding and characters that rivals many "adult" tv shows. Add into the mix well-researched philosophies and amazing animation, and you've got yourself a masterpiece.
There is so much depth to this show, so many deep layers, it warrants repeated viewings. I am so happy that you guys are doing this series!!! thanks x1000000 to the patron that requested this.
Waterbending was my least favorite element when I saw this show for the first time at 11 years old. Now at 24 years old it’s become my favorite. It can kill and heal, it’s peaceful yet chaotic. It’s embracing like a mother and educative like a father. It’s spiritual at its core
Uncle Iroh, the wisest character in Tv history.

This is a great idea for a series. I hope you also do a video about the non-benders too.
OH MY GOD I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!
I’ve always loved your channel, but for you to make a series on my favourite animated series of all time, and a well thought out analysed one at that..... I’m gonna cry
I can't wait to watch the next videos on this! This was so well done and really appreciates the genius of the series. Whenever I am struggling with life I often will re-watch the book that seems to best correspond with what I am struggling with. I still cry watching certain episodes. Such a beautiful series! I'm glad you are covering, thank you patreon angel!
It would be interesting to talk about to martial art forms that each type of bending was based on. For example water-bending was inspired by T'ai Chi Ch'aun, specifically the yang style.
Can you do a separate video on Hama and blood bending? Everyone says that it’s blood bending that made her insane, but not many people acknowledge the fact that she was a prisoner of war and tortured for many years. That would alter anyone’s psyche. Even though what she did was wrong, what the Fire Nation did to her was wrong. Also, for her, she never got any psychological help after escaping and when she escaped, she settled in the Fire Nation, constantly having to hide her Southern Water Tribe heritage and her water bending; she dealt with the very real fear that if she slips up, she could be taken back to prison or killed.
Could you talk about how, even though blood bending was presented as horrifying, it allowed her to escape an actually horrifying situation and blood bending could have many uses beyond evil ones. I wish the show showed blood bending in the medical field, because if someone is hemorrhaging, blood bending could be used to stop the bleeding. If someone has polycythemia (a patient’s blood is too thick) blood bending could be used to thin it out. If someone has sickle cell (one of the complications of sickle cell is clotting, especially clotting in major organs), blood bending could be used move the blood and break up any clots.
This could fit in with a theme showed throughout this vide; the theme of duality. Blood bending could be used in good and evil ways
Thank you so much to the patreon for supporting the channel and choosing this topic. I love this series and I have always thought myself to be a earth person. I love the analytical take of The Take and can't wait to watch every episode of this series. Also, Imma binge watch Avatar again after this hehe

Very keen for the rest of the series
This is such a great analysis! I've already seen so many videos on Avatar and this one still is the best so far - analysis in detail and with so much insight on the show, but still manages to make it easy to comprehend and keeps the overall structure in mind... I am in love!
Also, while waiting for the next videos, I highly recommend Hello Future Me, he makes incredible videos too - I especially recommend his version on rewriting the ending of Game Of Thrones besides his Avatar videos, they are amazing! Thanks for analyzing Sokka as well when talking about Water as a perosnality. I think people overlook the fact that he has qualities of a water person too. His way is more mental than Katara's, but still very much Water. Also I like how you described Korra too. Many people say she is more Fire than anything else, but I believe her journey and story is very much Water in that it is always changing and evolving.
