That is one of the best 1U servers Dell has out there. Looks like the RAID card will need to be plugged in firmly since they are notorious for coming loose during shipping. You should see the Dell RAID controller option in POST. I did not see that in the video. Once you plug that in firmly, hit CTRL+R and set the RAID. Congratulations on your new server. Love your videos.
Yeah I noticed that too. I was able to sit the RAID card firmly into the slot. Like you said it’s common for the RAID card to get loose during shipping. You would think that Dell would fix that issue. Well, thanks for watching and be safe my friend.
@@bjtechnewshd Thank you. They changed the RAID clips to screw down since it was an issue. The R630 (13 Gen) have screw-down RAID cards that work great. Enjoy the build. Looking forward to the next video on how ESXi works with the R620.
sweet! welcome to the R620 club. Tomorrow I’m releasing the iDRAC configuration video for this machine (spoiler alert) and it will follow with the BIOS/Firmware update, RAID configuration and then the boot from a USB to install OS.
If the server has an SD card slot, install ESXi on an SD card. It only takes a few hundred MBs. In fact I thought you needed the ISO image to install onto an SD card when in fact you can write the ISO file to the SD card, boot up and install over itself! You will get the benefit of faster boot time and can easily back it up.
good point. i keep that in mind. I don’t think i saw a SD card slot on the motherboard, but if there is one I’ve might have overlooked it. Going to double-check. Thanks for watching and be safe my friend.
Can you explain please why you choose to install OS on sandisk flashdrive? Wouldn't it be better if you used SSD or something else instead? Or was it because of wish to leave raid alone?
How much was this in total? Cause I just bought an r620 with dual E5-2690 v2 and 32gb memory (plus all the additional features you mentioned) for $141 + $97 shipping and tax (eBay). It seemed like a pretty great deal but good god I didn't think it was worth nearly $1k!
of course. I’m working on those videos. I will break it down to short videos and create a playlist for you guys. BIOS, iDRAC, Firmware, OS Installation. Stay tuned.
Gods above those are beautiful. My Dianda's a Dell PowerEdge 620, though I have never met her, since she is in a datacenter in FL where my friend takes care of her. I want to get one for myself; either a 620 or 720XD, perhaps, but still need to figure that out. And wow, is that one full of Dellfire. I explained what that was on another one of your videos; think it was the R530.
@@bjtechnewshd You too. Dellfire is a metaphysical substance. For those who can detect the metaphysical, it normally radiates on most Dell devices. Looks very bright white, and it can be guided and shaped (mostly by those working in technology, and even more expertly by those working for Dell). I think it comes from one of the higher dimensions, and tends to resonate with such high-quality tech (considering most of Dell's enterprise stuff is made of metal, originally from natural sources). You have to be aware of the subtle energies in the world to feel it.
Thank you for your vedio, please I want to buy a server to work on it by windows, how can i buy a specfic server and how can I install windows in it? thnaks again
Thank you very much for this resourceful and insightful presentation. Please let me know if I can successfully install ESXi 7 or 6.5 on my server. it a Dell R620 Gen | 8-Bay Hot Swap PSU, 2x Intel Xeon E5-2660 - 2.20GHz 8 Core, with 128GB - 16x8GB PC3-10600R DDR3 Registered. 4x Enterprise 600GB 10K 2.5" SAS Hard Drive. iDRAC 7 Express. Thank you
I've just bought 4 of them refurbished, for work, they are wonderful but a bit loud for a home lab, I bought a r520 for a home lab, a lot quieter (can't take quite as much ram and the processor is the e5-24xx series of processors as opposed to the e5-26xx series)
Also additional information, those dell servers support using an ssd cache (it is called cache cade) it will drastically improve your servers performance, just check your raid controller supports it

Thanks so much for creating your channel. Love your videos because they actually help people learn. Love you and hope your family is safe and healthy!
I have two of them, that's why I'm watching your video.
Love your videos and especially this one. Have ordered the same machine. Thank you!!!
sweet, great machine. happy with the purchase and thank you for watching. be safe my friend.
How cool man! I think that you will really enjoy them. I have two running ESXi 👍
Nice build, I like going to order for one
Right on
Do you have a date planned for the next video? I recently purchased the exact same model(lower specs) and would love to follow along.

@@bjtechnewshd Awesome! I'm hoping the homelab will help me bridge the gap and move into a jr sys role.

For a homelab environment, I recommend looking into the Micron 5210 ION SSDs.
yeah those SSD are good, but pricey.
Hi, did you add the PERC H710
PERC or H710P raid controler ?
I added the PERC H710 raid controller for this machine.
Does the dell poweredge r620 device support NVIDIA TESLA T4?

Are you going to do the video where you check and upgrade the firmware and upgrade the bios that will be a very useful video

Cool can't wait for the video
